Solid diner experience. Less modernized and more traditional than many Hudson Valley diners. I like that. The atmosphere is unusually convivial. Instead of people staring at their cellphones, I see folks actually talking to each other. How different. Menu is noticeably smaller than other diners. But thats okay. Most of them try to do too much, and then end up coming short on quality. The Chief makes hearty breakfasts, delicious sandwiches, crispy fried foods, and charges MUCH LESS than most other Hudson Valley diners. Service is friendly, seating is comfortable and its located right next to the Taconic Parkway. Whats not to like?

The food is better than respectable and reasonably priced. Great breakfasts. The fish and chips dinner is huge. The service is good to excellent depending on the time of day and server. If you are a tourist and arrive while the locals are eating, expect that more attention will be paid to the locals than you. This makes sense, as the locals are the ones on whom the diner relies on to be repeat business. If you are into classic local diners, enjoy! The place still has a real phone booth.

Seated in at 10:30am waited and walked out at 11:20am. My boyfriend and I waited almost an hour without anyone coming to take our order. The four people who were seated right before us had their orders taken and their food brought out while we still waited. When the waiters finally came they proceeded to take the order of tables that were seated after us including a large group of six that was just seated next to us five minutes earlier. Very bad customer service.

We used to be regulars at this place before we moved, and the food and service were awesome. Personal favorites: the turkey club (with kens honey mustard on the side for fries) or their pancakes, for breakfast. The only downside to this place was the steady stream of impolite people coming up the Taconic to look at leaves/ski/purchase another summer home. The service is wonderful--please tip your waitress!

This was an unexpected surprise. We were traveling and happened upon this place at the right time. We took a chance and to our surprise the place was spotless, the service wonderful, the food was great, and the prices were good too. If we ever find ourselves out that way we will definitely make sure to stop. Homemade baked goods and fresh food are hard to beat ;)

Americana encapsulated into a roadside diner. Vintage vibes. A place to stop and think about a less complicated time. Put your cell phones away. Comb your hair back. Gaze into the eyes of your sweetheart and enjoy a plate of liver and onions, cod on a bun, and a bowl of hot chowder. Service can be a bit confused here when its busy. Very accommodating for children.

Great place, breakfast on day two of epic for week motorcycle trip with my daughter, great food excellent service... What is better than a real diner... Nothing.... Of course the trip was three years ago... I think Ill head that way next week on my way to Texas... another road trip.

This is a great place to go for an old fashioned experience. You feel like you are going back in time when you enter. Also their food is like a classic American diner and tastes delicious. If you are on the road and need a good rest stop, this is the place!

A very quaint dinner that has a 70s feel to it, but extremely clean and well kept. The food arrived in under 5 minutes, and was not bad at all. Service was great, and the staff cheerful, and busy maintaining the optics of the diner. Go, you wont be sorry.

The best breakfast (eggs, bacon, oatmeal, home fries, even the toast) that I ever had. Better than homemade. The deserts are outstanding as well as the friendly efficient service. I always look forward to stopping.

My family have eaten here several times on our trips upstate. Great diner food, great old typical american diner experience, and authentic daily Mexican food specials. Looking forward to our next stop.

The Martindale Chief diner is very close to our house. The staff there are very friendly and nice. The food is passable diner fare, and not overpriced.

Great throwback to the 50s style diners. Good food and wait staff. Parking lot is unpaved so it can be muddy.
