Ive lived in the area and eaten at this restaurant for years. Their sushi is ok, not the best but it is conveniently located. This past Saturday I went there to relax and have a light dinner. The restaurant was not crowded, I was seat right away. Then, I waited and waited for a waiter to come to my table. Finally, after some time a wait person arrived and asked if I had been served AND did I know what I wanted! Remember the restaurant was not crowded. I said no and asked if I could have a cup of tea first. Before I could complete the sentence another customer sitting next to me interjected and asked the waitress what kind of desserts they offered. The waitress stopped talking to me and moved to the other couple to answer their question, with her back to me. Now, you tell me what would you do if put into that situation? Yes, I gathered my belongings and left. Its likely I will never go to Palace again. I went across the street to their competitor, Aoyu Sushi, where I had a lovely dinner and great service. My new go to spot. When I later went back to talk to the receptionist at Palace, (I was too angry to say anything when I first left) she was contrite and said, "it is our lose". That was all! I dont get it. In this economy shouldnt every customer be treated with respect and encouraged to return? Their lose.

(This review is for delivery only!) Up in this part of Manhattan, there arent a lot of options for Indian food. There is Kismet down on 187th, and they are okay in a pinch, absolutely. Little did I know, up across the Harlem River, sits a little Indian restaurant up in Riverdale. Thank you, Seamless, for showing me this little gem existed! Its not often I order takeout from another borough, but it was worth it. Though our delivery guy got a tad lost on his way to my place, our food still showed up 10 minutes early! Score! Between myself, the beau, and one of my roommates, we got a hefty lot of food for $51 bucks: two orders of Chicken Tikka Masala, one order of Shag Ponir, three pieces of garlic naan, and an order of rice. We didnt realize the meals came with their own rices, so we ended up with four small containers of rice, plus some soup, some pineapple chunks, and three large containers of sauces. Hot DAMN! My roommates thought their Chicken Tikka Masalas could have been a tad spicier, but liked them. My Shag Ponir was very flavorful! The garlic naan was great, very large, and very doughy. The rice was also very flavorful. (I know, I know, I could be picking better adjectives at this point...haha...)

I would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat. Our Server, Arthur, couldnt have been more professional or friendly. He was wonderful and helped to make this experience very enjoyable for us for my dads birthday. My sister and I decided to give this restaurant a try, we were looking for a nice place to have dinner with our Dad. The restaurant is super clean and very beautifully decorated with authentic Japanese decor and accents. The ambiance here is amazing... and the food, wow, it is really delicious... From the moment we were seated and Arthur came over with a free appetizer and a warm cloth towel to clean our hands with, I knew this would be a place Id return to and refer others as well. Thank you Palace Japan!

Not a pleasant experience. When I am trying a sushi place for the first time I do for the basics; either a shrimp tempura or california roll. I ordered both from this place. If you are looking for tiny, stale sushi, this the place to be. I order from it for the first time, never again. The pieces were tiny and they were bitter. I do not remember California Rolls ever having a bitter taste, well this one did. The texture is eeewwww and stale. Worst sushi ever and trust me, I know sushi.

Food is fresh, service is fast and courteous. Monster roll and salmon avocado roll is delicious.negative reviews may be for other dishes, but the ones Ive tried were good so far.If youre adventurous, the tako (octopus)salad is really good; something different. been here a few times. The food and ambience makes me think that the restaurant puts quality over commercialism. And believe me, the dishes Ive tasted are comparable to much $$$$ sushi places.

I wish there was a way to upload the picture I took of the piece of "scouring pad" I found in the chicken w garlic sauce... to add insult to injury she tried to offer a new plate and even suggested to charge for my companys plate when the fact that the piece of that pad was found. Im disgusted‼️ No apologies no explanations just an embarrassing experience that could have been avoided‼️

This place is awesome, but I tried ordering lunch for the special and was told there is a $20 minimum on CCs. This defeats the purpose of a lunch special when you have to order extra just to hit the minimum. Some people dont carry cash. Not that my order is make or break, but its a prime example of bad business mechanics in NYC as usual.

Worst sushi Ive ever had. Flavorless and dry. Ive had better sushi from Target :) Even their ginger was dry...how does that happen? My favorite part :( Fresh sushi makes all the difference; even with no fancy flavors. Im a very big sushi enthusiast and have experienced sushi all over the country...one of the worst.

Overly expensive, stale sushi and utterly horrible service. The "makeover" gave it uncomfortable seats and a musky unbearable atmosphere. Also dont even think of delivery from this place. On three occasions they have delivered a mess not a meal. Not to mention the delivery boy has jibbed me 20 bucks.

I went with teachers a few weeks ago that love the spot. I thorough liked it as well. We ordered a few different rolls. I think there was only one that was not to my liking but they loved it. I assume its just a matter of preference. Ill be back tomorrow so Ill see if its consistently good.

If I would have read these reviews before heading to Palace of Japan for dinner, I would not have gone. I however, had a completely different experience. We received fabulous service with good sushi. I felt like an honored guest and that alone made the trip worth it.

Not sure what restaurant the negative reviewers went to. Ive been twice the past week and found the service to be excellent, although I was there when it was quiet, and the food, sushi, to be some of the best Ive had anywhere and I travel a lot. Highly recommended!

Went there when I went to my dentist. I live in another neighborhood. Food was cold and badly prepared and presented. Cheated me out of $1.00 April 24, 2012. Used to like the restaurant but will not go there again Paula

Great sushi options and fast service. Best for large groups and a good variety of options. If you have a large group call in advance so they can set you up properly. The weekends are usually busy so plan ahead.
