The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines reservation as, "an arrangement to have something (as a hotel room) held for ones use; also : a promise, guarantee, or record of such engagement". However, from my experience on Saturday, 3/14/15, the staff at Cubanus is not aware of this definition for table reservations. I made an 8:30 p.m. reservation for my daughters 22nd birthday celebration for a party of 8 family members the previous week, received a call from Cubanu to confirm the reservation on the 14th which I did. I also later called them to advise we were running about 10 minutes late due to the rain/foggy weather. We got to the restaurant at 8:40 p.m. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess informed me that our table "was not ready". I was under the mistaken impression that perhaps they were setting the table for our party - very wrong! What I learned after waiting about 15 minutes, and asking the hostess again, was that there was no reserved table, they were waiting for a table to empty so they could seat us! On top of not having a reserved table (as promised), the hostess was rudely abrupt in her explanation that "just as soon as we can get a party to leave, youll be seated". I would have hated to be the seated party she referred to in this way. Also, it was another 15 minutes before a table became available and they began setting it for us. When we entered the dining area, it was quickly evident that the restaurant size is much smaller than represented on its websites photo gallery (about the size of a medium living room). So, while they take reservations, they actually operate on a first come, first served basis. With the above said, our waiter was professional and seemed to be doing his best to serve us despite obvious issues with the bar and kitchen (no margarita serving glasses, burned rice hidden in one of our dishes). The drinks and dishes that were served without incident, were good, but not great for the prices. The paella was the best - nicely flavorful. There is a good DJ with a varied mix of Latin, popular and "throwback" music and after 10 theres fun dancing that is not like an over-hyped club scene. The lounge area is just that, so its another smallish space. All in all, the management would be well served to hire a professional hostess who knows how to speak to guests without being rude. If theyre going to accept reservations, they need to honor them, or do away with the policy so that patrons dont have the expectation of reserved seating. Also, the kitchen as well as bar need to become more organized. I might return and hope theyve "polished" their operations if/when I do.

Everything started OK at this place. The tapas were pretty authentic and the maduros were great. All was well until the waiter spilled oil from another tables dinner down my leather jacket and brand new leather purse. He didnt tell me, my family had to be the one to tell me. Once I noticed that my purse was ruined, I figured that Id let the manager know that his wait staff should be more careful because their recklessness had ruined my bag. He was VERY unapologetic and rude about it. He had a very "oh well" attitude about it. I wasnt fishing for it but I thought he would at least offer to compensate us by taking a dessert off of the bill. Thats the least he could do for ruining a $400 bag! It didnt happen! To make matters worse, he then came over to the table to tell my husband to move his chair in so that "no more accidents would happen" as if it was our fault in the first place! Someone should give the wait staff and manager a training on sensitivity and a lesson on a little goes a long way. Ill never dine there again.

Went here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. There were only three other tables occupied and one waiter who did everything (hosted, waited, served, and bused). Nevertheless, the atmosphere was acceptable and the waiter was attentive and polite. All of the dishes were very basic and marked at NYC prices. The prices would have been okay if the food was exceptional. However, the food was cold, overcooked, flavorless, and overpriced. The waiter said that most of the food is pre-made earlier which explained the cold yet tough meat. Not even the rice was enjoyable. To boot, the sangria was warm and tasted like a Capri Sun. Everything about the food was just bad. Bottom Line: Ive had much better Cuban and Dominican food from corner stores in Jersey City and Perth Amboy for a quarter of the price.

This has to be the worst place that I have ever tried. I decided to go there for my daughters birthday with the intend to have a family dinner. The worst servers and the lack of supervision from the "wanted" to be manager, make this place disgusting to even try. I should got up and left as other clients did when they waited to be even ask if they want something to drink. The servers have attitude, careless when serving the food because their hair get in the food and my food was served as if i ordered the lunch menu. I ordered Ropa Vieja and I was served a few pieces of meat. NEVER AGAIN....Obviously, this place is being manage by amateurs with no restaurant experience what so ever.... Cant get over the fact that this place gets away this awful service and the quality of food they prepared.

On my recent visit to NJ I had a craving for Cuban food, being that Im from Miami I was unsure if the quality was going to meet my expectation but boy was I wrong. Every thing from the skirt steak ( churasco ) to the café cito (expresso) was nostalgically on point. The ropa vieja ( shredded beef in sauce) was so delectably succulent that it brought a tear to my eye as the flavor melted on my pallet and the thought of my abuelita crossed my mind. the músic the drinks every thing about the ambiance took me to that special place that a evening on the town should be. A moment to remember good time. WOW is all I can say I recommend this location to any one with a desire eat, drink and dance the night away..... Freddie-o

Terrible service. Waited 2 hrs for our food. I came in with a group and they said they could accommodate us. They could not. Instead of bringing out the food when it was ready, they waited till everyones food was ready. Which is fine but we came in around 8:45. We didnt get out orders taken till about 9:15 and the food dont come till 11. They should have told us they didnt have enough "man-power" to feed us. Then when the bill came, the waitress put all of it on one bill when we clearly said to separate it. Then accused us of not telling them that. Point is dont come here with a big group. They cant handle it. This is more of a small family/couples restaurant.

This is a small cozy place and the food was great! The service is another topic, appetizers did not come out at the same time maybe 15 min apart, entrees were on time but not complete, I order a Babalú which is suppose to come with some yuca on the side but it arrived way after I was done with my entree, drinks took a long time to come but when they came it was good, will recommend the passion fruit mojitos, the only reason why Im giving it 3 stars is because the food was delicious and to be fair it was Valentines day so maybe they brought in extra people that were not properly trained!
