Ive just moved down to the area from Detroit, and found this little underground thai place on yelp. Im not one to come onto a computer much and write reviews (good/bad) after a meal...(I usually just make a mental note, then go home and pass out)...but I DO pick places based off of others reviews, esp. since Im new around here. Anyways, I just got to say...some of the reviews on the internet about this place almost completely deterred me from even trying the place out...but since I tend to like to judge a place for myself, and there were more good reviews than bad, I figured to give it a try anyways. I am so glad I did. Ive been down here for almost a month and a half now, and this was the first place I felt at home. The waitress was smiling and cheerful, people were enjoying themselves, both old and young, and the food was phenomenal. I was seated close to the windows, which I liked, because it gave me a kind-of privacy, slightly away from the bigger tables. I ordered the tomka soup with chicken and a somtum salad as an appetizer, and the pad thai (of course) for my entree. The soup reminded me of how my mom would cook it when I was a kid, the taste being hard to describe to someone who has never had tomka. Think: heated coconuts turned into soup, with herbs and spices making it...different. Good different. Somtum was good too, but the tomka was what really did it for me. As for the pad thai, one of the best Ive ever had, and I know my pad thai--its how I "grade" thai restaurants I try for the first time. Its difficult to find a good one, tasting how it is supposed to taste. (Not that americanized, oily crap that keeps popping up.) I got khao niao (sticky rice and mango) and a coffee for dessert. Perfect ending. :) The whole while I was there, the ambience was really nice and welcoming. A stark difference from the thai restaurants I frequented back in Detroit, which were more polished and modern. This one had its own subtle charm I guess. Im pretty sure I heard a little kids laughter from the back of the kitchen every now and then throughout the night, so it seemed like even in the back, they were enjoying themselves! Anyways, I just came on here because some of those reviews I usually use to pick a place to eat were terrible, and I almost missed out on this place because of them, so I figured Id even em out by giving em a good shout out. Every restaurant has bad nights, but not every restaurant can make you feel at home. Ill definitely be coming back regularly. P.S. - And yeah, the service is slow like the other reviewers mentioned, but eh. Why eat out, expecting good food, if youre in a hurry? Im sure theres a McDonalds around the corner if you cant wait.

I took an elderly friend to Orchids last evening and after we entered the restaurant, we were seated and told the server that we both wanted the crab soup and flounder. Because the room was very cold we asked to move to a warmer spot. We were seated for over an hour with the waitress going back and forth with diners already eating after another 1/2 hour we asked for soup which arrived. We then had another long wait and I asked about our meal, the waitress said she forgot what we ordered and after another long period of time she brought us flounder that was under-cooked and seemed not to be fresh. The rice was cold, and the dish had none of the lovely seasoning I experienced at Orchids in the past. To be fair only one server was there and I know that what the kitchen produced was just awful. Im hoping this was a glitch. The once lovely Orchids ambiance seemed to have disappeared.

BEST BEST BEST food in the local area. A gem in the rough!!!!! Great pricing for made to order Thai food. They also have some americana food also, the shrimp scami is wonderful! Be prepared to be there a long time though. Its not the best choice for small children (sometimes up to 3 hours from sitdown to dessert). BYOB and you are all good (be careful you can get pretty tipsy). Great early bird dinner special for $9.99. Faves: Mussamun shrimp/chic/beef, Tom Yum soup, and homemade coconut icecream with coconut laced sweet rice. Dont expect a fancy atmosphere it is a cafe!!! WELL WELL WELL worth the visit. I just cant say it enough. Wait staff are so sweet!

after reading the reviews, my friends and i, who love thai, decided to check this place out. at first, everything seemed fine, the service was amazing. when our food arrived, i was enjoying my curry dish. however, i peered down onto my plate and saw a bug in my sauce. i sent my dish back, our waitress was very polite about it. however, the kitchen staff was not and i could hear them loudly insisting that i had stuck the bug into their food. i was extremely insulted, and also angry that they had yelled at our server like this. i will never return to this restaurant, which is disappointing, as there arent many thai restaurants in the area.

Best Thai Food in the area!! Its always made fresh to expect a little wait when ordering. Trust me the wait is well worth it. My favorites are their Paad Thai, Thom Gha soup, and Red or Green Curry Chicken. They have a $9.95 Complete Dinner special that features Soup or Salad, Eight different entree selections, and dessert. Good Luck finishing it all!

Good Thai food. Service is a bit slow, but Im pretty sure it is all being made from scratch in the kitchen while you wait. I want to say the food is more authentic than Rama Thai, but I honestly do not know anything about authentic Thai food.

Thier website says open until 9. We got there at 8:10 and they told us they were closed. Who stays open for 3 hours and shoos away business. Ill never return and just stick with Rama Thai in EHT and Thai Orchid in Pomona.
