I had a brunch for my brothers 40th birthday on 08/16/15 let me just start off by saying this that our waitress Kristen was GREAT very attentive to the huge party that we had. I didnt enjoy my breakfast I had the Knights of Windsor was way too sweet the chocolate and Berry sauce was way too much for the French Toast it was an OVERLOAD! Now heres what made the restaurant get a one star from me the manager and the owner who have no customer service skills. I received my bill at the end of our brunch and noticed that I had been charged an addl fee just have them cut my brothers birthday cake and were not talking $5 or $10 dollars lets try $35 to cut our cake. No one even informed me that I would be charged to have them cut my brothers birthday cake. Then I was told I would be charged a $20/pp for the brunch that included a beverage and pastries then I was charged an addl fee of $25 for pastries. That again no one told me that I would be charged for. I will NEVER be back to The British Chip Shop. Its a shame because even though I didnt enjoy my meal I was going to returned to try something else because of the level of service we received from Kristen she really made up for the SURPRISE bill I received. Thank you Kristen!

Let me say that despite the rating, i do enjoy this place. My main issue is the inconsistency of the food leading to some really good experiences, as well as bad experiences. Two separate occasions of ordering the Cheddar Mac & Cheese, the first time believing it to be the best mac & cheese i have ever had, and the second time tasting nearly no cheese and under cooked pasta. The price is worth it when the food is good, but its a toss of a coin if that will happen. The service is great, except when you call for takeout. The staff are kind and friendly, not overly attentive, but focused on you enjoying your experience. They have made many mistakes on bringing the proper food/drink, but always quick to fix it. My biggest issue is with taking out food. No matter what time they tell me to come pick up my food i always have to wait an additional 15 minutes. Overall when everything is working right, this place is amazing. More often than not, the food comes out tasting ok, just having the novelty of British cuisine to give it more appeal than it deserves. Worthwhile to check out and experience food you might not traditionally have, but keep your fingers crossed the food comes out well.

My experience here was as follows: Us: [walks in and waits to be acknowledged but ignored by the staff of 1.] Us: Sooo...do we just sit anywhere? Staff member: [nods] Us: [sits and waits at table for a few minutes.] Me: [Gets up to look for menus. Cannot find any] My Fiancé: [gets up to look for menus. Spots them behind the counter and the staff member.] Soo....can we just help ourselves to those menus? Staff: [irritated. hands him a handful of menus even though there are only 2 of us] Us: [sat and decided on the food wed like to order. Not offered any drinks. Not acknowledged the entire time. Notices another couple a few tables away that was seated there before our arrival also without drinks. Notices 3 other tables with dirty dishes left on them from prior guests. Notices staff member shuffling clipboard and receipts and blatantly ignoring guests. Gets up to leave.] "Well, I know they sell food here because theres dirty evidence of it everywhere." If youre hungry this is not the place for you. Run. Do not pass go. If youre Ghandi or looking to shed some weight after the holidays, enjoy your bitter fasting.

The atmosphere was nice and the waitress was ok but definitely looked like there were other places shed rather be. No personality and certainly not very welcoming. Many reviews mentioned the inconsistency of the food, mostly the temperature of the pot pies and the undercooked chips but we decided to try anyway. Middle of the day, not at all crowded and no excuse not to have perfectly prepared food. While my fish was fine, my wife and my chips had many that were soggy and under cooked. There is just no excuse for that - especially when so many people have mentioned it. I cant believe management doesnt know about this problem by now and, having failed to successfully address it, I have to wonder about how things are run there and what other problems they have and will have. My wifes roast beef sandwich was ok but a bit on the dry side. The Sticky Toffee Pudding (warm date cake with toffee and vanilla ice cream) was very good, but, like most of the items, I felt it was over priced for the size of the portion. I would like to try the other items on the menu, but I dont feel its worth going back.

We only get to have a great Fish and Chips or battered sausage and chips once a year or so when we go home to Ireland. So when we found this shop in Haddonfield, we were very excited. the fact they had Ribena, 99s and chip buddies, that was all I needed to know that we had an authentic chipper in town. My mouth was watering for it! We ordered and did a take-a-way... The palces looks like a pub. authentic looking. Smelled like a chipper! but when we got home, the chips were soggy, the oil was old and the fish batter was to wet. The fish it self was tasty but mushy. Same for the Battered sausage! The Malt Vinager was brown (thats good)! but the Curry sauce was watery .. Perhaps take a way was a bad idea, maybe we should have eaten there, but that does not explain the old oil. Maybe the breakfast will be better. I wonder should I chance it.. its not cheap. and I blew my diet for nothing.. Oh Well, there is always tomorrow.

Walked into the shop waited 5 minutes before being greeted and seated. On our way to our table I noticed paper place mats on each table except ours. I ordered Fish&Chip to share with my daughter. Our drinks didnt come in until our food came out. I didnt fuss about it. Still no paper place mats for us :( The moment I poked my fork into the oil drenched, fried 5 times fish, it crumbled and shattered. It looked like the chef finely chopped the fish and fried it five times. I thought using my hands would be easier ( I thought wrong)! It shattered in bits and pieces all over my very brown, dried up fries! Waved down my waiter and asked him if they were supposed to be like this and even showed it to him and he replied, " yes, they are supposed to be like that." Our whole experience was a disaster and we felt extremely disappointed at this place! Service was bad, food was poorly executed, not fresh, and tasted boring.

This was probably the third or forth time Ive been here in past 10 years and each time I hope it would improve. Its not terrible but not really anything worth crowing about either. The place is decent size and they play soccer when its on which would be my main draw in coming here but I could also watch at home and make my own fish and chips. The small order was one piece of cod, fries and one small bit of tartar sauce. The location is great in the middle of Haddonfield and we had a groupon to use so we at least were happy about that. The waiter was ok...maybe because he was only waiter on the floor but seemed kind of just there without being of consequence one way or another. Making our own fish and chips with our air fryer will be first (and second) option before coming back.
