It pains me to write anything less than a stellar review for a place so highly rated but I have to be true to my experience. My friend wanted to take me to the Inn to try it as it is noted as one of the best restaurants in the state. I have been to the other tops ones in NJ and they are some of my favorite all-times. I liked another place’s menu better but she really wanted to try this place out during our vacation. I give two thumbs up for their pear martini (the best pear martini I have ever had) and the quickness of the valet and hostess staff especially on a busy Saturday night. That is why I gave this place 2 stars rather than one. That is where our positive experience ends. Our waitress although attentive was very rushed and tossed us our silverware and food instead of taking her time to make a nice presentation. I have never been tossed my silverware at a bar before, let alone a place that is supposed to be classy. The appetizer we ordered was mysteriously canceled as the Inn couldn’t make it and my roasted beet and asparagus salad was bland. I ordered the grilled scallops special and was very disappointed when I cut into each of them to find they were cold and raw (gray, jelly centered). I had to spit out the one bite I accidentally attempted to eat. When I sent back the scallops I was disappointed to see that I was given back the same scallops, instead of having them replaced, and it appeared as if they were simply heated up in the microwave or oven. The desserts, chocolate bombe and crème brulee, were bland too. The chocolate bombe was to have a hazelnut taste and it simply tasted like chocolate cake. I am not a picky eater and overall was very disappointed with the way my food was handled and the taste. It was not worth the almost $200 we paid for our meals. I found the local cafes had better food. Due to my uncooked, cold scallops incident I would not recommend this place. I know, I am in shock too, yet there is no excuse for the less than okay service and serving raw food and not replacing/cooking it correctly.

Last nights dinner at the Washington Inn in Cape May to celebrate my sons 30th birthday was absolutely special. Beautiful table in a gorgeous bright restaurant. The food was incredible. Duck Breast with Shiitake Mushroom bread pudding and raspberries. Beef Short Ribs, Crab Cakes and a Strip Steak. The meal, the atmosphere and waitress made the night a beautiful evening. Great appetizers too of Crab Cakes and Oysters. In addition the chef sent us a Gazpacho Soup like appetizer with a Shrimp. Wow that was good and had a little kick to it. Loved it. Deserts were outrageous - Banana Foster in a caramel shell and a Crepe Layered Cake that you must try. French press local roasted coffee. Peach Martini and great Manhattan. In addition, the Valet parking made it absolutely effortless. Anyone who has been to Cape May can appreciate that service. Valets were great guys! Without a doubt my favorite restaurant in the area one I am planning on visiting again soon! Go there you will not regret it!

My husband and I came here tonight for new years eve dinner (5pm) I have no other words except exceptional!!! We have a 5month old and had a fantastic night out- our waitress Karen was 5 stars (if there were 10 shed be 11!) We were deciding on a bottle of wine and she said Pati would be able to assist us better. Pati literally could not have recommended a better wine- amazing! The food was phenomenal, our bartender before we sat down was great as well - the whole atmosphere was a 10 out of 10 - we may have to make this our go to nye dinner spot - thank you thank you! And valet was great too :)

I was at the Washington Inn on Sept 30th for dinner with my new wife, her parents and my mother. I have to say, they made us the most wonderful meal I have EVER eaten. I had the Seared Halibut with toasted almonds, jumbo lump crab, with a passion fruit glaze. Mimi, you are one of the most talented chefs in the country. Words can not describe the balance of this meal and the wonderful flavors. Also, thank you for the most wonderful wedding cake. I will be back every time I want to go out to eat in Cape May. It was incredible on the best day of my life, my wedding day. Alex Stamateris

Went for an anniversary dinner, it was amazing service and food! They have valet parking , but be aware you need to pull up and stop in front of the restaurant for them to do so, which blocks the street. But they have good food that is extremely well done .and the service was very intentive and thoughtful. They asked if we were there for an occasion and when stating it was our anniversary. They brought out a plate with happy anniversary written on it with a bowl of extremely tasty sorbet and fruit. Overall and great experience and enjoyable meal.

5 Stars is not enough for this restaurant. The lamb cavatelli appetizer was delicious perfectly executed. I had the lobster tail with risotto it was amazing as well. The lobster tail was cooked perfectly. Service was outstanding. I dine out often and this was by fat the best meal I have eaten in some time. The only negative is that this place is 90 minutes from my house. Went back again on8/9/2017 still amazing and safe room for the crepe cake absolutely delicious.

Too much hype & little substance. Vegetarians beware, options tired rawish grilled veg w/plain risotto. Stellar: crab cake w/red pepper sauce;escargot, garlicky & rich; smoked mozzarella; goat cheese; desserts. Negatives: fresh fluke smothered in loads of sickeningly sweet passionfruit & almonds, 50s throwback should be banished forever;aforesaid veg non-options, limited menu, lack of creativity. No farm just old farty restaurant for non-gourmets

Went to Washington Inn with a large party of 16 and reserved the downstairs room. Everything was excellent. Delicious food with good but not gargantuan portions, a great wine list, and amazing desserts. I specifically want to point out how amazing our waitress Elise was - attentive, knowledgeable, clearly very experienced with handling a large party, and genuinely kind and helpful to the young kids in our party. Thank you Elise!

A visit to Cape May without dinner at the Washington Inn? Unthinkable! Top notch Chef Mimi Woods continues to put together a sophisticated yet inventive menu. Creatively presented salads, steaks, and halibut are three things not to be missed, along with divine desserts. Fine wines and great martinis add to our evenings there. Friendly and knowledgeable service is also a hallmark.

The Washington Inns dinner was wonderful. The steak and duck we had was perfectly cooked and the staff was very accommodating. However I will say when ordering you need to be careful how you word things. Our party intended to order two crab cake dinners. To our surprise we received two crab cakes. The mix up unfortunately couldnt be resolved. Next time well order more precisely.

Very charming restaurant! We ordered off the Early Bird menu which came with a salad and dessert (I believe if you order before 6pm)- I had salmon and my parents had one of the chicken dishes. Beautiful decor and the service was terrific. I highly recommend this place - the prices on the Early Bird were great but the regular menu looked reasonable as well.
