This goes down as one of my two worst "restaurant" experiences ever. Here are the memorable quotes of the evening with our server. “Dining” Experience Waitress: I didn’t forget about you, we’re just trying to find your beer. Me: No problem, how about some waters while we wait? (Water eventually delivered after the other table asked for water with their meal; draft beers came in a bottle) Waitress: I’ll get you another set of silverware (never delivered a second set for a party of two) Me: So I get two sides with my grilled crabcake. Waitress: Well, one of them is the coleslaw. Me: What’s the vegetable of the day? Waitress: I don’t know. Me: Ok, I’ll just have the French fries. After ordering the grilled crab cake entree and receiving the fried crab cake sandwich. Me: Im confused. I ordered the grilled crab cake entree (like the one in the picture in the menu - follow Gordon Ramseys advice and run) Waitress: Oh, you got the better deal. They gave you the fried crab cake not the grilled. Me: So that’s an upgrade? Waitress: Yes! Me: What a nice kitchen staff... After paying cash for 51 dollar and change bill Waitress: I don’t have change so I’ll just give you $9. The most bizarre "dining" experience of my life. If I were drunk, perhaps I would not have noticed all the weirdness. Poorly managed and staffed, I will NOT be returning.

Good food, good service by our waitress. However, the hostess needs education in dealing with handicap people. When I went to get a table for 5, and the hostess saw my huasband in a wheel chair- she told my family" he cant come in here!" I responded " pardom me- my handicapped husband cant eat in this restuarnt- why?" she replied, " we are busy and I dont know where to place him." She took our name and made us wait 50 minutes, all the while seating parties of 6 or 5 that were able bodied. Finally, she call my name and placed us inside the corner of the bar area in a booth, making all the people siitng at the bar get up to remove their stools, so we could push his wheelchair into our booth. And we had to repeat the same scenario upon leaving. Meanwhile there were open tables in the opposite room from the bar. Discrimination against the handicap is agianst the lae- please educate your staff.

I stop in for the ocean burger when Im in Cape may. The food is good but the prices are getting out of hand. 16$ Now for the ocean burger. Its a large burger and its good but if youre going to charge those prices for the food, you should think about spending some money on the bathroom. My four year old had to use the bathroom. I had to use a rusty can of clorox I found on the floor to clean the disgusting toilet so that I could allow him to use it. I dont even want to think about how much urine was on the can. Then I tried to use the urinal and guys had to rub up against my back side just to get by me to use the toilet and sink. Absolutely no room in there and extremely disgusting. They should be embarrassed.

Mediocre at best. The seafood is okay, anything else on the menu is pretty bad. The burgers are disappointingly dry (especially the bread) and not very flavorful. The potato skins were nearly flavorless. Its also unreasonably expensive: Our group of 4 got 4 burgers, 2 appetizers, and 4 drinks. This cost us well over $100. Ive gotten so much more (and better) food for so much less. So to sum it all up: Regardless of its history, Ugly Mug is a shitty experience all around, and its definitely priced for tourists. The only reason its not 1 star is a the wait staff. They were actually really friendly and helpful.

Went to the beach with some friends. Picked this place out of the lineup for dinner. Huge mistake. Ordered calamari and crab cakes. Crab cakes were described as fried but not deep fried. They were deep fried and horrible. Calamari was rubber and horrible and expensive. By horrible I mean literally the worst I have ever had. The meal ended up costing a lot and i felt awful by the time I left. Not long after my butthole exploded but I think the work of my stomach acid and intestinal tract may have improved the flavor of the food in the end.

The service was horrible. We had to wait an hour for our food and the staff was slow, inattentive, and not particularly friendly. I generally tip 20%, but I was surprised when the bill came and the waitress had automatically added an 18% gratuity. We had a party of 4 plus two babies (who werent exactly paying customers). It was shady to impose the 6 people automatic gratuity rule. There are a lot of good restaurants in Cape May. Unfortunately, this isnt one of them. I wont be back here.

We stopped here for cold drinks on a hot day. To start, you have to greet the hostess to even be recognized. Ugly Mug, it should be the other way around. Sat. Ordered. Server forgot to card me. Came back and carded me. Went to the bar. Came back and forgot what I ordered. Came back 10 minutes later with our drinks. Meanwhile a manager or supervisor "authority figure" berated an employee loudly and openly in front of us. This place is run by teenagers and exorbitantly overpriced. Skip it.

Pretty much a sandwich & beer place. The bar is nice, the outside seating area is recommended for a warm summer/fall day. Def. a people watching place. Some good sandwiches not a bad stop for lunch. There are better eating places like one reviewer said, but location is real good in the shopping district. Service has been usually good when we go there, Id give it overall a B rating. Likes: Sandwiches, Barstaff Dislikes: Bathrooms are a little cramped & dingy.

Terrible. Food is not good for the price. Its bar food for crying out loud yet they price it likes a high end restaurant. The snotty, hostess looks at you like your bothering her and not worthy of coming in. And the bathrooms...... Wow, unbelievable smell, cramped and ancient. I bet the owner doesnt use it. The ugly mug has an a more than an ugly bathroom. Spend some money you overcharge your customers to redo your cesspool of a bathroom.

I hope the "Cape May Crab Cakes" arent a true representation of cape may crab cakes. They were even described as a "chefs special" but these looked and tasted like mass produced crab cakes. My wife got a new york strip, worst strip steak shes ever had. These items were all premium priced but I would consider below diner grade. After the kids stuff and tip bill came to $90. We eat out a lot and are very rarely this dissatisfied.

For being considered a must visit attraction while in Cape May, this place was abysmal. Short of having a great beer selection (all I would recommend) the prices were extravagant for unimaginative, plain, deep fried food. My wife and I have never gone to a restaurant, eaten so little, and not grabbed to-go boxes. Avoid this place, so much better fare around the area.

My wife and I went to the Ugly Mug and had fantastic service and the best Maryland Crab Burger ever. It is juicy and messy and everything that you want in a fantastic burger topped with delicious crab. We also had the clam chowder which was out of this world good. Definintely a great pub with lots of history. Great people and worth every penny!!
