I arrived at the Wooden Spoon Saturday morning at 7:15 am. I rarely go out to breakfast....anymore....so I was looking forward to some solace and a nice breakfast. I didnt have high hopes for the experience, but I did expect an enjoyable breakfast for being in Dover, NH. The waitress young and eager arrived at my table and recommended the coconut coffee....iced, so I agreed to try it. It was ok.... I ordered a small stack of blueberry pancakes and a side of bacon... I waited awhile, surprising since there was maybe 4 people in the place. The pancakes finally arrived w my side of bacon. Bacon was ok..... The pancakes were warm at best. The syrup on my table was cold. So after trying to get my waitresses attention to no avail, I decided to eat the pancakes....I was hungry after all... The waitress finally approached my table and asked how was everything..... I explained to her that the pancakes were warm...not hot and the syrup was cold....Her reaction was....of course....the syrup is cold....we keep it in the fridge....and she went on to elaborate about how she keeps her syrup in her fridge at home. She knew my pancakes would be met w cold syrup and had no problem with that. She was oblivious to why this would not be a pleasing experience. She proceeded to say....next time you come, just tell me to heat the syrup up. haha.. So anyone ordering pancakes is expected to know the syrup is cold and to ask the waitress to heat it up, or you will be met w very cold pancakes. It never ceases to amaze me the stupidity of some of the people out there in the food service industry. I do, however, recognize there are some wonderful waitstaff out there that in large can dictate your dining experience, and they are wonderful. Needless to say....I will not be back!

The last time I went, it was nothing special. Ordered eggs over medium on bagels and their potatoes. One thing I can say is the potatoes are mediocre at best, and thats my favorite type of dish. Not really caring for the place, I didnt even think of going back until my father in law suggested it. Figured give it another chance. Got their short stack French toast with bananas. French toast is cinnamon, eggs, milk, and bread. This tasted like milk and bread. Not great nor good quality for two pieces of bread and bananas with 6 bucks. Not worth it at all. The prices are a bit high for a place like this and their quality food. Plus its cash only. One more thing, its veteran owned but no military discount. I wont be going back unless Im dragged.

Firstly, it is a cash only operation. I dont blame them considering how much banking institutions charge for plastic. What they save on financial charges shows up on the healthy portions on my plate. When possible the chef/owner will come out and greet diners. The servers are polite and earnest. They do not sugar coat or feign perkiness, there is no singing of happy birthday (Thank God!). If you want some old fashioned service and some hearty Americana breakfast. This is the place for you. I recommend a bowl of chili with garlic bread. My absolute favorite.

For years if you asked me where my favorite place was.. the wooden spoon was always the answer. The food was consistent, very good, and I had my order perfected. Today when I came in the menu had changed, my Mexican omelet (not only delicious but fit my strict dietary requirements) was no longer an option. I settled for a breakfast sandwich that didnt fit my needs and left me still hungry. My frustration and annoyance at the changes to what use to be the perfect little place have made me decide to find a new breakfast home. Heart broken and tummy sad.

While visiting NH we came across this restaurant and couldnt be happier. The service was wonderful and the food amazing. We order our food and the portions were huge and quite tasty. We loved this place and wished we had found it our first day there. Each dish the passed our table looked amazing. Highly recommend this establishment!

Food was good but service was poor at best. Server did not bring syrup for my sons pancakes. They were wondering why it was slow well there is a new restaurant that opened down the street from them that accepts debit cards. They are behind the times

Ive been eating here for almost 20 years and have never had a bad meal. Standard breakfast fare, nothing fancy or trendy. Always delicious, and the portions are huge. Cash only - no credit/debit cards or checks accepted. Veteran owned.

Ive written multiple reviews on this place, but want to single out the wait staff in this one. Always prompt and friendly. They check on their customers frequently to see if their coffee or beverages need refills. Very social.

they embrace and enjoy my quirkiness, the owner, in particular, is a good conversationalist, the food is home style and tasty. would be better only if they had gluten free bread and their eggs from free range chickens

Very friendly service. Always busy, and cash only. Food comes out quickly and has always been perfectly cooked. Huge plates, well worth the price. I eat here usually once a week and it is always a pleasure.

Best breakfast around. Bring your appetite because the helpings are more than enough. John Wayne omelet is delicious and the pancakes (especially the chocolate chip) melt in your mouth.

Good food fast service and affordable the home frys leave alot to be desired and the hash out of a can is ok but the cinnamon roll and french toast saved this review

Good service and food. A bit pricey for what you get in portions and quality, but a satisfying breakfast just the same. Had the chicken fried steak w/ sausage gravy.

You will have to wait because the restaurant is small. Also they are a cash only business, dont forget CASH.
