Café 37 is where a beautiful and elegant facility meets horrific food, service, and management. I had dinner here last night and after seeing the restaurant had very high expectations. Those expectations were quickly diminished. Our server Katie was always around, but never noticing empty cups or plates. We only got one refill in the 1.5 hours we were there. She would walk by frequently with her head turned the other direction, never asking if we needed anything. After we were done eating we did the customary silverware on the plate, napkins on the table “I’m done” indicators. But we were still ignored for another 20-30 minutes. We both asked for medium cooked stakes, but one came out medium rare and the other medium well. We ordered the $22 and $21 filet mignon and ribeye but when we received our check we were charged $29 and $24. After pointing out the error the server brought the menu which listed the prices as we had stated. However, she proceeded to tell us that we got the 10oz filet mignon and not the 6oz listed on the menu. THERE WASN’T EVEN A 10OZ ON THE MENU! Did I mention the table next to us also ended up sending back their food and going somewhere else for dinner? Yes, it’s true. Their steaks weren’t cooked correctly, and their mashed potatoes were still frozen. There aren’t many good options in West Plains, MO. But if you are considering Café 37, save your money!!

Having worked in a conceiliary role with the people at Cafe 37 I would recommend it as a first class environment to hold romantic dinners, buiness meetings and private parties. Gregg Siegman, a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York produces traditional dishes with a twist. He has displays tremendous artistry in his food presentation of good quality dishes. He tries whenever possible to use local farmers and growers. Toni Johnson, the owner, has done a fantastic job of transformating the beautiful old opera house into a stylish place to see and be seen. "I can often tell when someone is visiting us for the first time," she says. "They will spend the first ten minutes staring up at the moulded tin ceiling and chandeliers." The Grand Ballroom upstairs can hold around 300 people for concerts, weddings, parties. It has two stages and chairs and tables that can be arranged to suit many different events.

Cafe 37 is an absolutely gorgeous restaurant located in an historic building. When you go there, be sure to take note of the copper ceiling! The food is first-rate. This is a place to gather with friends and spend a nice evening over food and drink. If you want fast food, go to McDs. This restaurant is about the atmosphere and great food. Its a place to take your time and savor each and every bite. Next door is Ropers Saloon. Again, a tastefully (with some fun thrown in) decorated. You may order food there as well. Many TVs on the walls to watch the games, etc. Definitely not a dive bar; it is elegant and caters to a more sophisticated crowd as well as those wanting a good, fun, non-rowdy place to go.

Food was cold. Waitress apologized and said she was going to tell a manager but nobidy ever mentioned again. Bartenders never know how to make a drink. Hostess was rude and untrained. Has no idea about hospitality. This is sad too because we like the room and the feel of the place. Always have. But every time we try we are disappointed. This time was with visitors from NY who know what good dining is. Cafe 37 had a great chance to strut their stuff. Instead it was a fail. Wish I could give better rating.

A very nice place to enjoy a wonderful experience! Held to high standards from the hostess to the kitchen! Toni will correct any issues if you ask for her. I am not posting this out of my fondness of cafe 37 or because I need work. I was a server and we and r employer gave a 100% if you were to have that horrific if an experience why not as for the owners or manager? Best if luck always!

I wanted it to be good, because its a neat place, but it just wasnt. Food was bland. Flies everywhere, driving us crazy while eating. They knew steak was way overdone and asked if we wanted it anyways (why not just make it right?), and other person in our party was ill all night.

Great place, very sophisticated food and atmosphere for a small town in Missouri. Very enjoyable.
