My last visit to The Block was about 6 months ago - our server was awful and my husband wasnt in a good mood, so I left feeling very "eh". But Im super glad that I went back tonight with my father and grandfather! I decided to jump in an try new things! The two other times Ive been, I got the pulled pork sandwich and a side of the potato and bacon hash - which is absolutely incredible! But I didnt want to get caught in that rut where I order the same thing every time. So my dad helped me switch things up! He ordered The Three Pigs sandwich and I ordered their special sandwich for the evening - beef brisket with Swiss. And we didnt swap out the side, we went with the fries and pickled veggies. And let me tell you, these fries are spectacular! Theyre thin cut (think McDonalds size), perfect amount of crunch and perfectly seasoned! As for those veggies - I usually dont care for pickled things, but with these I could really appreciate their fresh taste. I believe they made them and they havent been sitting in a jar of chemicals on the shelf for the past three years. The brisket sandwich was enormous! - think long sub sandwich. Now, this sandwich was very nicely seasoned and very yummy and I would recommend it to everyone. However, The Three Pigs, was out of this world and puts every other dish to shame! The meat on its own was so freakin flavorful! I dont even remember what cheese was on top because it didnt matter! Im glad that this is one their menu all the time - I can return and have it again soon! (Then theres dessert. I will warn you, their desserts run a little small, which makes me sad.) Their chocolate ice cream with candied bacon is simply out of this world! But, like I said, I was determined to try new things! So dad and I shared two scoops of ice cream (cinnamon and coconut brown sugar) and the Chocolate Malt Pudding. Ice had the cinnamon ice cream in the past and have always loved it, but I have to say that the rest of the dessert put it to shame! The coconut brown sugar tasted less like coconut and more like the most amazingly delicious brown sugar ever! Both dishes came with a gingerbread cookie which was surprisingly sub-par comparatively - too cakey and not very gingery. But the pudding also came with two toasted marshmallows! The pudding was very smooth and almost had the consistency of a thickened caramel sauce. It was super sweet and you get a pretty decent portion so I was very happy! Fingers crossed that at least one of these desserts are still on the menu!next time I visit!

$$$$ - Be aware; google reviews Good is the second lowest rating. If there was just a Fair that is how I would rate it. Ribeye was nothing special - I mean, it was good, it wasnt leather, it was cooked how I asked, but I cant say it was a great experience. A little salty. The Petite Medallion was good, a little sweet. The Rib was mostly fat with a touch of meat here and there, and was so peppered the flavor of the beef was missed. Now the $7.00 piece of carrot cake we took home - well, it was good, not to die for. The most impressive part was just how THIN of a slice of cake it was. Literally, this piece of carrot cake was less than a 1/2" thick at the heavy end. I really have no idea how they sliced it this thin and got it into the box without it falling apart. In closing - if you are a yuppie and want to eat at a place that claims local purveyors, this is your place. If you want a steak where you taste the meat, and a good meal, maybe firing up the grill at home is a better option.

There is no doubt that the food at The Block is good. I wouldnt say the steak is great but the white wine pork was wonderful if youre into heavy food. My biggest complaint is you cannot make reservations, not even for a large party which resulted in almost a 2 hour wait. On top of that we had a birthday in which case I brought a 5 inch cake surrounded by cupcakes. I asked them to keep it in the kitchen for me only to be told that if you bring in a cake there is a 2.50 per person fee similar to a corkage fee as if I brought in a bottle of wine. Seriously, there was no effort required on anyones part for me to bring this cake in. Even if they didnt store it in the back while we ate there is still a $2.50 per person fee. I hardly think I should have to pay an additional $25.00 to bring in a $12.00 cake after we just spent over $500 eating there. This policy will have me not returning to this restaurant, like a said the food is good, not great.

The atmosphere was warm and cozy with a hint of refinement. Its a great place for a date or a nice evening out. They staff couldnt have been more compliant. Very friend and knowledge. They are butchers shop so vegans need not come. Offerings were exceptional. The brussel sprouts appetizer are excellent, not healthy considering the bacon and bacon grease but they were brilliant! The flatbread with chicken and pork special were absolutely delicious. The Block is definitely a step up from the chain restaurants and below a restaurant in clayton. It is perfectly situated in Webster Groves. I high recommend.

This place is really cute and cozy, not huge, big enough to always feel busy but never too full. The happy hour is great to get started with (note the happy hour is only in the bar area which is not big so get there early), and the food is always really great. Im a veggie/fish eater and Ive always been happy with my food and my friends/family, most of whom are meat eaters, love it as well. I will say its a bit pricier than Id like, because Id like to go there more often, but otherwise I would definitely recommend.

Just landed at the airport and wanted to eat something so we stumbled across The Block online and decided to go. It wasnt really out of our way so it worked for us. We didnt quite know what to expect but were very pleased. The food was absolutely fantastic. Very simple but full of flavor. Definitely farm to table and was perfect for my paleo diet. The portions were just perfect enough to fill and satisfy. Next time I fly into St Louis, I will make it a priority to stop in again.

Tonight was my first visit to The Block. I heard they had great steak. We arrived and were told the wait was about 40 minutes. After 25 minutes I asked how much longer. The hostess and her trainee, who were both around 19 years old, said another 40 minutes to an hour. I said we were told initially the wait was 40 minutes. They both said no we said the wait was 40 to 90 minutes. For a place that doesnt even have a price on the menu for steak, this was most disappointing. We left.

We had a very nice family dinner tonight - requested by my son for his birthday. Immediate seating as promised. Imaginative food that was reasonably priced given the quality. Burger, steak, and trout were all well prepared and satisfying. Entrees were a little bit salty for my taste but seasonings and sides were artful. Melon basil sorbet was delightful. Very comfortable dining room. Extremely pleasant staff. Recommend.
