I guess in order to really understand the human condition one has to see the ugly side of things. Tonight my friends and I were at dinner and basically forced out of the restaurant by the owner. As we conversed he came over to our table (not our waitress) and snatched the money off the table (tip and all) in a rude manner. We disregarded it to his ignorance. He came back and said "I need you to get up because Im trying to run a business here." I had to take a few minutes to process this. I requested for him to come back over. We explained that his approach was rude and disrespectful. He said "take it how you want to". DISCRIMINATION and RACISM is alive and well. Ive never been a person to pull the race card but this was blatant as there were several tables of people there who could have been asked to move/leave as well. We were the only black people there. There were even tables of people who were seated before we got there. When I asked why we couldnt stay and listen to the bad he said you can if you want to pay $15. He automatically assumed we werent going to stay for the show or we couldnt afford it. Ive spent my hard earned money there on several occasions. Needless to say Ill never go back and my poor little naive eyes have been opened to what I already knew existed.

On a business trip to Tupelo, in search of decent microbrew, a local pointed us to Blue Canoe. This place is _amazing_ if you dont mind the calories. For the Canadians in this southern city, theyve got Poutine, but they also have their own country variant made with ground sausage and mild jalapeno (their "crack" sauce, which is truly crackalicious). All five of the folks in our dinner party got something different (okay, three of them were all variants of the Smash Burger) which were all eaten with zeal. I enjoyed their Turkey Day sandwich, which was huge and perfect. The waitress was friendly and prompt. Refills of my sweet tea were frequent and without having to ask. Food was hot and arrived timely. I have to admit that in interacting with the waitress to sort through the many delicious-sounding things on the menu, she started to actually exhibit some of her own quirky personality. I kind of developed a little crush on her... The price of all of the food was very reasonable. My turkey and cranberry sauce and dressing sandwich, replete with a full order of onion rings, was $8 and change. The decor is... local color. Wooden tables and picnic benches covered in graffiti. But you didnt come here for the decor, so you wont mind.

There are a few reviews here that should not hinder your decision on choosing The Blue Canoe on you visit to Tupelo. Firstly, it is a very friendly place with a unique atmosphere. The staff there have always been nothing but professional and courteous and you have a more personal experience than you would a chain restaurant. If you dont want to try the best burger in Mississippi then maybe you listen to some other reviews because it is awesome. They also have a selection of delicious soul food and if you prefer ask your server for the Grouper Salad, thats what I get if I want to eat light. If you want to skip the calorie counting and enjoy food the way its meant to be enjoyed then get in here and see for yourself. Someone also commented on the yocal locals? not true. Every locally owned bar and restaurant in America have its local joint, you can learn more about the area in 5 minutes at a local joint than you can searching online. They wont bite, take off your tie, roll up your sleeves and stay a while and youll be glad you did. They also have a great beer selection some check them out.

This used to be my favorite bar in town, until tonight when I had to use the restroom and there was a line for the womens stall so I walked into the mens and Adam, the owner, grabbed both my shoulders and pulled me back out to tell me its out of order even though I just saw someone walk in and out of it. I told him someone just used it and its a singular stall, but he insisted that its out of order. Trying to ignore that he just pulled me back, I suggested he put a sign, but he just stood there blocking the door and repeated that its out of order. At the end of the night, when my friends were cashing out, he continued to disrespect them and make excuses as to why he put his hands on me. Eventually he got a beer from the bar bc be was "in the mood to hit a woman" and didnt care if we came back. I dont care if youre the owner. Dont put your hands on me and disrespect my friends just bc a restroom is "out of order." Never supporting any business that treats people the way that Adam treated us. Welcome to the "hospitality state."

From out of town. Went there tonight after a long drive . It was full and we were asked to sit at the bar to wait for a table. All good so far! So we sat there completely ignored .. Even when we smiled and made eye contact with with bartender, she ignored us over and over again.. So we left after sitting patiently for about 15 minutes.. She walked past us over and over again.. Yes it was busy but we felt ignored and unwelcome! The food may be good, but we didnt get that far ... This server/bar tender needs a lesson in how to simply say "Im sorry to leave you waiting .. Ill get to you soon" that may have kept us waiting a little longer, but never, ever ignore your customers.. Bad experience on a rainy night when you are hungry, tired and looking for a welcoming face in Tupelo!!!

Wanted to go in and eat and enjoy food. There were 4 of us and the told us we could sit by the TV until a table came available. We were fine with that. They asked if we wanted anything from the bar. At that time 3 of us were pregnant and unable to drink, we nicely declined the offer. We sat there for almost an hour and started noticing people walking in and getting seated before us. It ended up being 3 parties the same size as ours... We were beyond furious and left. If you arent drinking dont expect to get any service. Be prepared to get completely ignored and leave there without any thing...

Walked in and went to the bar to get a drink. Its a Friday night the crowd is decent. The bartender that didnt even greet me was VERY RUDE! I believe her name was Sesame. I will NOT be tipping because of how bad her attitude was. I just didnt understand what her issue was. Apart of being a bartender is having good customer service and she definitely lacks that. She should not be behind the bar maybe better in the kitchen where she doesnt have to interact with customers. Crack fries are amazing as always. Music was awesome.

Unlike most restaurants in Tupelo, this place has decent beer to choose from. And unlike most eateries nearby, Blue Canoe is locally owned and operated. Despite this, its foods selection mimics the other mall-trash type places in terms of the caloric level of the menu items and its grease content. By far, Blue Canoe has the most fattening and greasiest food this side of Waffle House. So my suggestion to you is to go have a good beer and then eat somewhere else (but its Tupelo, so good luck with that).
