Coming back to the cities from a disappointing snowboarding trip, me and a buddy stopped at every bar we saw from Duluth to Willow River. The Squirrel Cage was by far the highlight! We were in search of cheap bar chicken drummies, the kind with no sauce just battered and deep fried. At "the cage" we found perfection. We werent given strange looks as we were in some of the other small town bars we stopped at that day, and on top of it all our bartender was a goddess. Man I would have loved to rattle her cage if you know what I mean. I love this bar and on my wife and Is first wedding anniversary I shared with her the wonders of "The Cage". She actually called it "romantic" not because of everything that makes it a 5 star bar, but because I had wanted to re-experience "The Cage" with her, and share with her that long lost night from snowfalls gone by. Im dead serious, it was a surprise that I took her there and when she saw where we were she leaned over and kissed me lovingly, as she pulled away she was smiling ear to ear. I should note this wasnt our anniversary destination, just a stop on the path to Duluth. The Squirrel Cage will forever be a stop on any and every snowboarding trip to the north shore till the end of time, at least the end of my time that is. You might call it my "black diamond in the rough"

Nice place! Our server was great, and very friendly. We waited a bit for our food, which our server explained would happen because it was busy at the time. We never had to call our server over for drinks, as she was on top of it. Really, she was great. I ordered the Cage Burger. These people are not messing around with their burgers, btw. My husband got the Snow Cap Burger, which was fabulous, and recommends it. My Cage Burger was really big, and seriously tasty. Im not saying it had a good piece of bacon, or there was a good sauce on it, but that every single bite was honestly delicious. I dont know what all they put in that thing, but it was a joy to eat. Let me also mention that the fries were perfect and salted and wonderful, and I am in love with them. Our group of four had no complaints about food or service, and the beers were cold. Its a clean place, including the restrooms, and the service and food are great. They also have a pool table and darts. I didnt get a chance to check out everything in the Squirrel Cage, but I like what Ive seen so far. Go get that Cage Burger with fries ;)

Good beer selection and very good food. Ive been here twice and both times were very good food and service. My only minor complaint is that they do not prepare nearly enough daily specials. Server stated that you have to get there at the beginning of the special to get one (even though someone at the bar was eating one at 8:00 PM). Feels a little like a bait and switch but we would have probably eaten there anyway so NBD.

Stopped on a Thursdays day afternoon in February. Had a burger and fries with a Moose Lake beer. All three where excellent. And the bartender/waitress/cook was great too. This place has been updated and the bar is in excellent shape. They did a very good job and even the bar stools are top notch. The only thing that wasnt updated was the bathrooms, but they are still okay.

The California burger was good and the price was very reasonable! I wish I would have asked for cheese... maybe next time. The only thing I could complain about, would be I dont know if it was colder inside the bar or outside the bar and it is 25 degrees today.

Famous for their burgers, I guess. But my son (11) and I were not overly impressed. We make better burgers at home, but the food was ok, not bad.
