We ran in there over lunch recently during the week. The place was fully staffed and completely empty. We were literally the only customers in there and it was just after noon. (I should note that there were a handful of completely packed restaurants within 100 feet). The waitress sorta heard what we had to say about 30% of the time, though, and so perhaps service is the problem here? My wife asked for a glass of wine when the waitress first stopped by. Later I put in an order for a beer (Todd the Axeman, yum). The beer came. The apps came. The wine never showed up. I had to go ask for it. I had to track down a waitress whenever I had a need (water, an extra napkin) because despite the place being full of staff, and devoid of patrons, she was an apparition that only appears when the cameras arent rolling. That said, the food appeared in good time, hot, and tasting very good. But we figured wed been to the other restaurants that were packed and didnt really feel like waiting. We ordered some of the samosas and while they werent what wed come to expect literally everywhere else wed been, they were really good. They were very light, well spiced, lamb, and came with a very sweet green sauce and a masala that had good spice to it. The tandoori chicken... It was just a skewer of chicken pieces with sauces on the side. It most definitely was NOT tandoori chicken in a traditional sense. It may have had the spices that accompany it when cooked but I couldnt tell. It came with three sauces, tandoori masala sauce, yogurt, and some kind of chutney. Again, not tandoori chicken. But we enjoyed it. They have a green chili sauce, by the way, and it was somehow magically refreshing. Try it. We also ordered the almond salmon, which was very good, and a kids cheese pizza, because thats what kids eat. And the kid ate it so it must have been good enough for a kid. Assuming this place has more than just the one Houdini relative for waitstaff, its actually really quite good. Their vision of Indian food isnt what anyone elses vision is, and that may be off putting, but we eat a lot of Indian food and enjoyed the way it was prepared here. Again, most of the restaurants on the street were filled with long waits, and the Green Room was empty. In Stillwater a restaurant can take a few years to pick up steam. And generally they dont last long if they dont get that reputation right away. The food here was good, probably a few bucks more than it should be, but good. So it must be service thats a problem. It certainly was for us.

I become a food critic everywhere I eat. I was excited to try somewhere new in Stillwater. When we walked in, the restaurant smelled a little funny, which didnt start things off well. We ordered and then they brought us our bread. It was one of the best parts of the meal besides the wine I ordered. The butter was rosemary and caraway. Yum. My cousin ordered the Green Room lemonade which was a watered down Mojito. My salad was awful. It was the Minnesota Salad and it came with nuts in it too big to make it to your mouth with a fork. There was a "wild rice" waffle with the salad. It was soggy, didnt seem to contain wild rice, it was cold and didnt really go with the rest of the salad. The salad also came with some turkey. It looked like the last of the leftovers from thanksgiving. It was also cold on the side. Overall the salad course was poor and didnt have much positive. My cousin had the Greek salad and it was about average (not as good as say... Paneras). The entree we ordered was the risotto encrusted salmon. The salmon, sauce and vegetables were delicious but overall not a knock out. The risotto with it was fantastic, but the Mediterranean salad that accompanied it just didnt fit with the meal and most of it was still on the plate once the rest of the plate was cleared. We discussed getting dessert and asked for a menu. Nothing seemed like it had to be ordered so we went a few doors down to find what we were looking for. Overall, Ill say this: I ordered foods from the list of things suggested to me by the staff and I was very disappointed. Im glad I tried it, but I know that Stillwater has so many other great restaurants to serve food priced similarly with more taste. The Green Room is trying to hard to be so different when some of the flavors and execution arent up to the standard Im looking for.

I have to say the outside patio was absolutely fantastic to sit on, no doubt about it! With the view of the bridge and the St. Croix river, you cant get a better spot to sit. Unfortunately, I cant say that the food was as good as the view. My husband and I were celebrating a special occasion, and thought this might be a good place to try. Service was decent and friendly. However, the bronzed scallops I ordered were not as good - the description of the plate sounded delicious, but upon taking my first bite, it tasted as though 3 people salted the dish and forgot to tell each other about it. It was so salty, I couldnt finish it. (And Im normally the one adding salt to my food!) Had the dish not been overly salty, it MIGHT have been worth the $28.00 we paid for it.

Hands down, one of the best meals Ive had in a very long time. I started with the Chèvre Flatbread, which I could seem to stop eating! I also had a greek salad, and the dressing was very good and all of the vegetables complimented each other and the dressing. But, the dish that really threw me over the top was the Chicken Farce. I can still not get over how good the whole dish was! The chicken sits on top of these mash potatoes that have so much flavor that they could be a good dish all by themselves. Then the chicken was covered in mushrooms and fried green onion and the sauce was amazing - everything came together in the dish for a completely amazing flavor. This restaurant is now now of my favorites and I will be back for more!

I have been to The Green Room about fifteen time since its opened, and it has always been a great experience. The food is always excellent and the service is always very good. Among other things on the menu I usually get the Blue Cheese Salad, but last time I ordered the Minnesota Salad and it was really good. It has blueberries, nuts, roasted turkey, maple syrup dressing, and a small waffle on the side. It was awesome. They also keep an etched Stella glass with my name on it behind the bar, so when ever I order a Stella they serve it to me in my personal glass. Now thats service. I saw a pic of the new Cheese Plate on Facebook, it looks great, I cant wait to try it and everything else on the menu.
