I have stopped at Mallards a couple times on boat to have a drink and a couple appetizers and sandwiches. Pretty satisfied with the fried okra and seafood dip and chips as the appetizers. Walleye sandwhich and burgers were favorable by the kids. Last night ventured in for a meal with a customer. It was a busy Saturday evening about 8 pm, but we got a table in the screened porch area. This was a big area and it had a ceiling fan at one end of the room. It was a warm summer night and it was just too warm and there was no air movement in this area. We asked for the empty table outside, where the host was gracious enough to let us move. I ordered the Jambalaya which had been highlighted by the owner to me on the previous visits. My customer had the seafood cannelloni. To my disappointment, the jambalaya was not good. I could not tell if is was blackened or it has been stewing in the pot way too long. To my dismay, I did not finish even half of the dish before determining, something was wrong with this dish, My client said his cannelloni was so-so. My stomach did not set well and I love spicy food. Love the atmosphere and location.... stick to the sandwiches and appetizers.

Got there when they opened Sunday the 24th .Where seated asap, then they forgot about us.4 in our party ,finely was able to get our waitress over to order a couple of bloody Marys. Placed order, then waited 40 minutes for two fish sandwiches, one shrimp salad, a cheese burger..now how hard is that? the two fish sandwiches were made out of one piece of fish ,then broken in half for two sandwiches. NOW the good part did not see our waitress until the bill came, so had to then ask for dessert. The service was at best poor, food about a #4.rest rooms were not well kept, waste basket was over flowing, and that was the start of their day. Looks to me as its over all a manager problem. Would we go back maybe, great location, but they need to get their act together.R.D.L.

Booked reservation for 2, upon arrival had to wait 30 minutes for seating (why make a reservation?). While sitting in the bar, was not asked if we needed a drink for over 10 minutes. After being seated, waitress was pretty slow to take our order. The all you can eat fish was good, but took forever for service on a pretty slow evening. I had the jumbalaya with a salad. The salad was poor, it looked old, just had iceberg lettuce, a small tomato and no other goodies. The main course was ok, but it also looked like it had been sitting under a lamp for more than a few minutes. We will not be going back anytime soon. I wish it wouldve been better, but we were both disappointed.

Really great food. No entrees at lunchtime, so youre a bit limited on the menu. But whatever you order is fantastic. Their deep fried cod is the crunchest, flakiest, BEST Ive ever had and I lived along both the Gulf and ocean for years so that is saying a lot. Great views. Quiet. Comfortable. Nice waiter who was quick with service and drink refills without us having to ask. The one issue was that a salad we ordered was supposed to have lump crab on it and there was absolutely none. When we told the waiter he didnt seem to care at all. He said he would let the kitchen staff know, but then he just handed us the bill. Overall, love the food and definitely going again.

Mallards is, in my opinion, a fancy dinning establishment in a marina. I have pretty high expectations when I think about a restaurant surrounded by big expensive boats. That said the staff were great, pleasant and full of smiles. The patio was enjoyable with lanterns to shoe away the masqitos. The problem I had was everything seemed to be just a bit off. The wine glasses were water goblets and they had water spots, same with the silverware. The menu had a wide variety of choices but it also had adds that took up half the content. In summery I will return but I hope they turn up the attention to detail and do away with supplemental publishing to make the rent.

My family and I have become frequent diners at Mallards since they opened. We love the Lobster roll, Crab Leg Thursdays and lots of the other special menu items and events they have there. The outdoor deck and screened in porch make it an awesome place in the summer to enjoy the views of the St. Croix River. The bar and dining room are very cozy in the winter with a contrasting view of the frozen river valley. There is live music on the weekends and occasionally special events like beer and wine tastings. They have great specials and awesome Happy Hour and late night appetizer and drink specials. Just a short drive from the Twin Cities it is worth the drive.

Disappointed in our experience tonight. First time there since it was Clydes. We sat on the patio for drinks and appetizers. The restaurant is what I remember, great location and very comfortable. Our waiter seemed to have an attitude when I didnt want a cocktail, didnt check to see how our food was until it was gone, sat with friends at the other table and it was very apparent his shift was done at the end of the night. The appetizer was way overcooked and chewy (fillet bites). I am bummed because Ive heard many good things and was excited to try it out. Most likely wont be return.

Went for the Friday night Fish Fry and were not disappointed. The oil the fish was fried in was evidently fresh as the breaking was light and flaky, not brown and burnt as the case at so many other fish fries. The clam chowder was like no other wed had as the clams were sizable and not chewy at all and just delicious! Our Server, Lauren, was great and quite attentive even though she was very busy with other diners. They have an extensive drink and wine lists, however, we were happy with the house wine by the glass. We will be back! Enjoy!!

Been here a few times and food has always been pretty good, service is never very good. Has a cool, “Key West” vibe to the place and about the only spot around to get seafood (besides the Dock Cafe). Don’t try to use any coupons, save yourself the embarrassment of getting the attitude like you’re “one of those customers”. Advice to management is train your staff to go above and beyond if you want more than just your “regulars” to come in and sit at the bar.

We initially sat in the regular dining room, but they wouldnt serve us happy hour items unless we were in the bar area, so we had to move about 30 feet away (silliest thing Ive ever heard). Later, we were not able to use our $5 coupon since we only ordered happy hour items (this was not stated on the coupon itself and we would not have come if wed known). Overall, kind of a frustrating experience. The food was okay.

We love this place! Great menu, incredible wine, gorgeous view of the St Croix River! Our favorites are the jerk chicken nachos, duck frites, walleye sandwich, and veal stroganoff. Also be sure and join their monthly wine club - the owner (Dave) is very friendly and does a great job selecting wines each month. Wine club membership includes a number of other perks like wine tastings and special buys.
