The place itself, looks nice. The staff needs a lesson in how to speak to people. Two nights in a row we had bartender swearing at us at closing time. We stopped in for a night cap, drink still half full, bartender screams at us to get the "F@#k" out. That is not how I or my employees talk to customers. We were walking by the next night and decided to check it out again, give them another chance. Barely get in the door, ( didnt realize it was closing time already) and the bartender starts yelling at us with "F bombs" flying again. This employee has no business working in a business like this. Northfield is supposed to be a friendly place. Hopefully the owner and management take a look at video footage and fire this guy. What happened to "Minnesota Nice"?

Lets not pretend this place is something it isnt. Its grungy, dirty, and in a musty basement. The service is a weird single file line and the bartenders arent particularly knowledgeable or kind. But everyone is real and helpful enough. It attracts the right crowd and usually has some great entertainment. A dirty popcorn machine pumps out free delicious snacks. This is the best place in town to meet for a drink and have a conversation. Things dont get out of hand; the vibe and ambiance is just right. Non-pretentious. AMAZING two-story patio on the river. They do fun drawings and winter ice bars and so much more. They even have the best pizza places phone number on their menu haha this place is my CHEERS. I wouldnt go anywhere else.

Bartender was horrible. Despite a fairly dead crowd, his reaction to our scaled-back order of two drinks, soup, and entrée (which was prepared in a microwave) was, "This sucks." At a weak attempt to manage our expectations, which were already pretty low based on that reaction, he said the Bloody Mary would take 10 or 15 minutes. It was actually about 25 because of poor order management; and I had to re-order the other drink, a pint of beer. Theres more, but Ill move beyond the bartender to mention the false advertising on the website. The website advertises that one can order from the Indian place right above the bar, but we were told no because the bar owner sold the Indian place.

Good beer selection, cool atmosphere, bad food. We ordered the "meat and cheese plate"..I wasnt expecting anything incredible, but cheese covered in bits of black fuzz off of somebodys shirt, grapes that were shriveled and just shy of moldy, and stale crackers is what we got. Total and complete waste of my innocent $10...which didnt do anything to deserve that.

Nice location right on the river, the entrance makes it feel like youve discovered a little local secret. Indoor and outdoor seating, including a little corner with comfy couches. The food selection is small, but focused; everything on the menu looked appetizing! There tacos were quite good.

Disliked: Depends on whos working, The bigger guy swears at his costumers for no legit reasons, he seems very rude and angry most of the time. I have turned away and went to another bar just because of his poor attitude. Liked: Atmosphere, Outdoor seating. Free Popcorn!

The owner looks at his customers...rarely acknowledges his customers and even rarely says "thank you." He makes gives the impression that it is a privilege to be in his pub. Plus he is mean to his staff.
