I was in this neighborhood yesterday, and found myself in need of caffeine. I stopped at this business, and ended up getting their Peaberry-type coffee, brewed right in front of my eyes in a fancy machine. While it was brewing, I was eyeing the gorgeous examples of breads that were also for sale. The coffee was wonderful - very, very good. After work, I returned and ended up buying a baguette to go with dinner, and a spur-of-the-moment purchase of a 6-pack of what ended up being their bittersweet chocolate cookies. The bread was excellent - nice and crusty-golden on the outside, and just right on the inside. The cookie (which looked truly "evil") ended up being, quite possibly, the best cookie I have had thus far in my life. Seriously.... the texture is like a snickerdoodle (without the cinnamon/nutmeg commonly associated with those), but really dark brown, due to the copious amounts of cocoa contained within. Then, it has lots of bits of actual chocolate pieces in it, which makes it moist and a bit gooey. SO GOOD!

Used to really love Rustica. This was my afterwork work wind down with an Euclair and Latte place. My Sunday morning start my day with a scone and a coffee place and my mid week get away and get some work place. I could always count on a great coffee made just for me, a great pastery and a friendly smile. Recently they have added a normal food menu which is taking away from the bakery variety and quality. Also they no longer grind and poor the coffee when you order. Instead it is out of a dispenser like I can get at McDonalds. However I still paid $3.5 for the coffee. I want to like this place because it is so close and offered me everything I wanted in a coffee shop however I am going to start checking out some other places with better coffee and service.

My girlfriend and I were excited to visit Rustica after enjoying their pastries at Kopplins in St. Paul. I work in a James Beard Award winning restaurant, and I can honestly say that Ive never had such disappointing service. I dont expect hand holding and conversation at the counter, but the tall and skinny guy with the curly blond hair and emo glasses was a huffy prick when we ordered and his coffee was so awful that I returned it. Get over yourself, buddy. But dammit, the Patissier at Rustica, Steve Horton, has got his stuff together. Hands down, the best laminated dough based pastries in the MSP. But after todays experience, Ill stick to purchasing them from Kopplins.

Rustica is my favorite place to grab a hot drink and relax. The coffee here is fantastic, whether its a slowly brewed coffee, or an espresso drink. The food is good. Rustica offers a couple different salads, soups, and sandwiches, all of which are tasty, and it is in their bread that the food truly stands out. The wall behind the counter is lined with a variety of different breads, all of which are delicious. The deserts are absolutely sublime; Rustica offers a huge variety of sweets, from chocolatey to fruity, and is definitely the cafes strongest point. Rustica is a local treasure, worthy of a visit every week from a resident.

Ive been driving by on my commute for a little less than a year, and finally made the decision to make the turn and try Rustica out. Glad I did. I sampled the ham and cheese croissant, and the almond danish. Both were huge flaky piles of goodness (so huge I ate less than half of each). On top of that, I ordered a cold press coffee... And for the first time since I left NYC I had a cold press that reminded me of the Grumpys cold press I used to pick up every morning. Fantastic place, great people working there, high quality pastries and great coffee. Whats not to like?

Not Impressed. Stopped in while on a bike ride with my dad. We each ordered a simple cup of coffee and a scone. Not too complicated, right? My dad tried to make talk with the cashier who grunted something we couldnt understand. She took our payment and stepped away without thanking us or giving us our scones. Then she stood there doing NOTHING while we waited for the barista to make several specialty drinks before pouring our simple cups of coffee. It took 15 minutes to get our coffee! Youd think the cashier must be qualified to pour coffee, right???

Whats not to like about Rustica? One of the absolute best bakeries in the Twin Cities. I love the croissants, the chocolate croissants, the kouign amann, the olive bread, all of the other breads, the cinnamon buns... I dont think Ive had anything that isnt amazing. And theyre no secret (they put them right up front) but the bittersweet chocolate are unbelievable if thats your thing (bittersweet chocolate desserts are my thing). The coffee is top notch, too, with all the fancy third wave brewing methods you could ask for.

Rustica is one of my favorite bakeries. Their daily menu changes with specialty breads (like brioche, egg braids, currant rye) available different days of the week. Their breakfast pastries and warm items are delicious and even beautiful. If you show up with desserts or cookies from Rustica, everyone will love you (they are that good!) And they make an excellent cappuccino too. Rustica is a good place to bring your laptop and work or meet up with friends for lunch or a snack.

It has been 3 months since we traveled to Minneapolis for a wedding, but not a day goes by that I dont think about the amazing coffee I had at Rustica. We live in the center of downtown Indianapolis so dealing with the suburbs of Minneapolis was unpleasant, but if do it all again for that cup of coffee. Oh, and dont get me started on their pastries. I think we ended up spending $150 on pastries over the three days we were in town. Just amazing.

I love this place. The pastries and bread are delicious, the tea is excellent, the coffee perfect. My knitting group meets here every week and the baristas couldnt be nicer. They remember our names and act kindly to everyone. Often bakeries and coffee shops that call themselves "European" feel they need to have servers who are arrogant and unhelpful. Not so here! Nicest people ever. Thank you!

It took me awhile to visit, but man! Was I missing out! Everything we tasted was AMAZING! Even on a Sunday late in the day, everything tasted fresh. It was worth every penny! We just got a bag of mixed pastries, next time well be back for lunch! To top it off, the young lady that helped us was kind, patient & genuinely nice. This is great local place. Well visit again for sure!

One of the best bakeries in the US. No corners are cut with technique and you can taste the quality. This place is second only to Maison Kayser in NYC (the locations with a bakery, not the satellite stores) because MK has the volume business to offer more variety. Rustica has equal or slightly higher quality. Rustica is a must visit if you come to Minneapolis!

If you have been lucky enough to been to Europe and try some fantastic pastries, you will find yourself on a another wonder vacation. The server was educated on the making of the product and friendly. Great Pastries! My wife and I tried the chocolate eclair, scones, lemon danish and butter cake. Wow. This place is unreal. Kouign Amann...Amen.
