From the outside, the Machine Shed looked like a really nice place. I had been wanting to go there for a long time, seeing it frequently. We finally went, after living here for almost two years. When we walked in, we were in a gift shop of some kind. Not a restaurant. It was very weird. They had interesting stuff, and we certainly looked around before we left, but we went there to eat lunch. We had no idea where to go or what to do. We walked around a bit and saw a sign that said wait here to be seated. No one was there. No one was even in the gift shop. I imagine this isnt the case during the dinner rush, but it was around noon, and there were diners and waiters, etc. We looked around a bit and found a couple of employees in a back room area. They noticed us but did not acknowledge us at all. We kind of meandered into the eating area before a waitress finally sat us down. The place isnt as nice on the inside as on the outside, but it was still pretty nice looking. The food sounded great. Very home-cooked meal-y. Almost like Keys. All of the food we ate was low quality and seemed like it was the cheapest way to slap together everything. Worst porkchop I ever had. And all the other food was ok at best. Wife felt the same way. The prices were good, but you get what you pay for. Very blue collar - which is not a bad thing - but just temper your expectations.

I dont understand why people would give this a bad review. Either they dont know what "Home Style Cooking" is, or they just dont like it. But, I dont often write reviews, and I even less often give a 5 star, but, tis place delivers exactly what they advertise......Great Home Style meals. I saw one person talking about drunk people before noon dropping f bombs. Well, dont knock the place because of the people in there at the time, that can and does happen everywhere! Big deal! Dont ever go out if you dont want to run into that! But, I had the double cut pork chop, and it was amazing! Just like something youd make at home....imagine that! My wife had the chicken and biscuits, and again....just like your mama made em! My advice to anyone ordering a steak, dont order a 10oz ribeye anywhere. Period. When you get the small ribeye, it almost can not be heated to only medium rare...its next to impossible, and not only that, its just a sub-par cut of meat....and thats why fancy steak houses dont even have them on the menu. The tap beer selection is superb...only MN good beers on tap, no crappy coors light or junk like that. All in all, if youre looking for a simple place to eat, nothing fancy, just good hearty food...go here.

After seeing a show on TV last fall about The Machine Shed my wife and I decided to eat at the one in Des Moines, IA while driving back to Minnesota from Texas. The food was wonderful (country fried steak and fried chicken dinner), the service top notch and the portions so large we brought some home. This past Sunday it was my sons birthday so we decided to take him to the one in Lake Elmo as a suprise since he also saw the show on TV. After telling him how great The Machine Shed was, we were all totally disappointed. The food was so bad that not any of the three of us finished our meals. My wifes fried chicken was not thoroughly cooked. The country fried steak that my son and I had was thin, dry and tough. The mashed potatoes were dry, crumbly and tasted like they had been made two days before. Plus all the portions were tiny. On top of the bad food the service was terrible. I complained to the manager about the bad food, explaining how wonderful the one in Des Moines was. He wrote off everything on the bill. If you want to try a good Machine Shed restaurant, go to the one in Des Moines, IA. If you want raw chicken, hocky puck steaks and nasty mashed potatoes, go to the one in Lake Elmo, MN.

Wife and I ate there our last day in town. Sounded great on the website and reading the menu. Huge dissapointment. The meatloaf lunch I ordered was raw in the middle. I had eaten my way there. When I brought that to their attention, I was told that as a result they were throwing away all the meatloaf they had and if Id like anything else. I only ate half of it and now no one else can eat it out of safety concerns, so thats comforting, The replacement pot roast potato skins tasted OK, but were very over done. Wife had a turkey sandwich and cup of potato soup. The sandwich tasted good, but the turkey in the middle of it looked red. Like underdone. She said the potato soup was good, but Im pretty sure she picked up some food poisoning from it. As it all came back later that evening. In fact, shes still in bed about 18 hours after eating saying she doesnt feel good. On the bright side, they didnt ask me to pay for meatloaf or potato skins. And the cinnamon apples were outstanding.

Surprisingly good! I was not sure what to think the first time I went here, sounded kind of like a Cracker Barrel and that place never impressed me. I was wrong, this place is great, good quality food, and reasonable prices. We had dinner here the other night with 7 people, 7 drinks, 3 appetizers and 7 main course items and it was only 170 and we all had left overs for the next day. The item that I did not know is not only do you get what you ordered the table gets sides to share. So the night we were there they brought out colesaw, rolls, pumpkin bread, and apples. All the food was great and they have very tasty drinks. Note that serving portions are large so come hungry or bring food home for the next day. We will be back.

We had our rehearsal dinner at the Machine Shed and I cant say enough about how fantastic our experience was. Erin was SO wonderful to work with during the whole planning process. She was so flexible, had great ideas, and really made everything easy for us. They had centerpieces for us and used some of the products from their store to decorate and it looked great. All of our servers were wonderful, but Sandra really stood out. She was so sweet and accommodated our request to bring in pie/candles for some of our guests that had birthdays. And the food was, as always, amazing. I would definitely recommend Machine Shed for any events that you are planning (as well as for Sunday brunch, because that is always amazing!) Thanks again!!

We ate the Mothers Day brunch at the Machine Shed after hearing some posive reviews. We were unimpressed to say the least. I hate to write a bad review because the staff was very friendly, but the food was worthy of a workplace banquet or 3 star hotel. It was essentially an expanded continental breakfast. Had I known I would have stayed home and microwaved my own french toast sticks. Its a good thing I was sitting down for the bill because it was 26 freeking dollars per person which did not even include coffee. If this place is going to remain relevant with all the competition in Woodbury they really need to improve the food quality.
