Dined at Red Cedar Grill on Sunday, September 17 at 5:30pm to celebrate my father-in-laws birthday. Unfortunately, the food and service was nothing to celebrate. The young man that was our waiter was new and in desperate need of training. When asked about bread, we were told it was only given to tables with larger orders, but he brought it to us anyway. The whitefish entree was sold out. We were told about this only after we had ordered the entrees, eaten our salads, and waited for 30 minutes. The waiter told us he had forgotten to put the entree orders in and upon doing so had been notified of the sold out item. We waited a very long time for the entrees to come out. Our waiter apologized saying they were really stressed today. Upon asking another waitress what the hold up was, she apologized saying, again, they were under a lot of stress because of the new menu which had been rolled out a few days ago. She told us she was not a manager and that there was nothing she could do. Our waiter told us there was only 2 waitstaff and 2 cooks on duty. So, apparently the manager had already left for the day. We witnessed a group wait 15 minutes for their final check, a couple wait 25 minutes for a bottle of wine, and another group left before ordering their food. Once the food arrived it looked quickly thrown together and 2 of the 4 entrees were lukewarm. We felt after waiting for so long that we wouldnt burden the staff anymore, since they had already admitted there was nothing they could do anyway. A free piece of carrot cake was our conciliatory gift for lackluster service and less than stellar food. The check was a little over $100.00 and our total dining time was 2 hours. The restaurant had around 20 people dining it it. I used to go to Red Cedar Grill a lot when it was owned by a restaurant group. I wont be going back. Amys review below is correct, we should have gotten up and left too.

Ive been a customer of Red Cedar for a few years now, and I have to say that its a wonderful place to dine. I was in last Sunday with three others for dinner. The last two reviews I read, werent very truthful to the situation. They failed to mention that the staff was dealing with a completely different menu. I was a server back in the day, and I know how frustrating it can be if the staffing is short handed. I think both servers did an outstanding job of taking care of their guests. A new server was waiting on us and he apologized for the wait which wasnt even too long. I appreciate the staff at Red Cedar and I cant believe the manners and patience of the crowd that night! Everyone was quite rude and refused to see both sides to the story. People these days are so quick to play the victim and post online to tinker with a servers livelihood. Again, the TWO servers were amazing and did a wonderful job even put under that much stress. The young hostess was very sweet and polite when she greeted and sat us. And the cooks did a phenomenal job. The food was delicious. I will DEFINITELY be going to Red Cedar again.

My date and I stopped into the Red Cedar Grill this evening for dinner. I heard about the new menu and management etc. and I wanted to see what all the buzz was about. When we walked in we couldnt help but notice that the entire atmophere of the place had changed! (hadnt been there for a couple of years). Our waitress could not have been more helpful and pleasant! She was very knowledgable of the new food and drink menu! We started out with the wedge salad and crab cakes. Then we ordered the coffee crusted filet and the black and blue New York Strip. Thankfully we saved some room for dessert because our waitress recommended their special cheese cake and my date (and I) absolutely loved it! They have a great wine menu but I love the new Michigan brews that they now carry! All in all, our experience here has been fantastic and we will definitely be back!

Unbelievably good food and service! Every time my wife and I are in this place were treated very well and always get exceptional service. The food portions are somewhat small but the taste is absolutely magnificent. Sure, the price is somewhat on the higher side but it is SO worth it! I honestly cant remember ever having a dish that was sub par here. Everything is prepared to perfection and the nice presentation of the food adds a nice touch. Last time I was here, I had the "Red Goat Sirloin" and was totally blown away by the taste and flavor. The Red Goat Sirloin is my new favorite dish and I hope it stays on the menu. If youre in the area stop into the Red Cedar Grill, its definitely a place that is worth a try!

This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in/outside the entire Lansing area. Weve eaten here many times over the last few years and try to visit for a special dinner once a month. The appetizers here really shine, many times weve stopped by just to get several different appetizers. Especially if you stop by during their happy hour deals the appetizers are a steal. Weve also never had to wait too long for any of our food (even with 10 people), and the service has always been great. Favorite items include: Carnitas + Johnny Cakes, Feta +Honey, any soups (especially bisques), the wedge salad, the Mac n Cheese, custard for dessert and I had a delicious fish stew once that I think was seasonal.

As new residents to the Williamston area, my wife and I could not have found a better place to call home when looking for a meal out. The menu is interesting and accessible, the food consistently better than most in the Lansing area, and the staff is always warm and friendly. Whether youre looking for a "special occasion" spot on a holiday, dinner for two on a Tuesday, or just a snack and a beer, the RCG is always worth the trip to Williamston. I know this will look like a "fake" review, but weve been here roughly 15-20 times since May and its great every time. Head out there on a Thursday and youll likely find us there. You wont regret it.

Very nice atmosphere. Wait Staff was excellent. I ordered the whitefish po boy. The fish was very bland and tasteless, thin and dry. They had added a couple sauces none of which helped the taste. In general they use too much pepper in everything. Many dishes had some kind of pepper element even the potato chips. The meal left my mouth burning. I ordered "milk chocolate" ice cream for dessert to cool my mouth off only to have it loaded with cinnamon to the point that again my mouth burned. Several people at the table ordered the ice cream and all agreed it was terrible. The restaurant wont be my choice anytime soon.

Before tonight I would have given this place 5 stars. However...tonights experience was one of waiting an hour for our food and when we finally received it, being lied to by our waitress about what time we ordered....and therefore how long we had been waiting. I guess they have been doing this a lot lately based on the review before mine. Much like thier experience we were offered carrot cake. I wont even get into the rest of the unpleasant details of the night. suffice it to say it is very unlikely we will be back. I am only giving the second star because of the positive experiences weve had there before this awful one
