This is the worst experience I have ever had at a "high-end" restaurant. We go out for dining in Detroit all the time and this place is on my blacklist right now. We made a reservation for 9 PM. We came there on time but they told us that they are running a little late and asked us to wait just for a little. We ended up waiting for an hour!!!! They were sitting people who came after us and had reservation at the same time. When I asked the hostess, she kept saying that they will sit us in a min. Nobody came to us to apologies, when we saw the manager - Jason Pasko, we asked him why are we waiting for an hour when we made reservation in advance a week before? Instead of being nice and apologies, he had the nastiest attitude ever. He said "we usually dont ask our guests to leave if we are running late but we are running late". He didnt do anything to apologies, he just didnt take. First of all it is a very poor management - to sit people at the tables if you have reservation at this time. My friends birthday dinner was totally ruined and on top of everything this place treated us very bad. We were not the only one who left, a lot of people waited in the line for hours (WITH HAVING RESERVATION!!!!!!!!) just left. Very, very poor management. I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Had a disappointing experience there. I had made a reservation three weeks ago for a particular table. I was dining there when I made the reservation and was looking forward to the next visit at that particular table. I was only informed the night before that they had given away the table to someone else. I was pretty upset but accepted the indication that we would get just as good a table. Well when we arrived the hostess, Nelly, who I had spoken with was nowhere to be found and even though I asked twice to speak with her she never came by. Needless to say we were given a table I did not like- hard wooden banquette seat, facing the bathroom, which I had explicitly asked not to be seated at. Eventually I asked for the manager and Jason if you think your response of "let me understand , you are upset because we placed you at a table next to the one you asked for" was appropriate then you dont understand you are really in the people business. There are many great restaurants in Detroit and many more to come in the next couple years and after spending $600 that night you should regret that I will never set foot in your restaurant again.

Our experience at Vertical was totally wonderful, from start to finish. We arrived on a very busy night, and there was a mix up with our reservation. They sorted it out instantly, with no hassle. Walking in, the atmosphere, and variety of tables was very cool. High larger tables, booths tucked into corners, traditional tables. All of these variations made for an interior that has a ton of character. It is a very long narrow space, and bar is tucked in the back. They were short a server that night, but service was still top notch. We sampled 3-4 appetizers, and 3-4 small plate "main courses" and all were wonderful. They have over 70 wines by the glass, over 600 bottles, plus a full bar. They offer tasting flights, and many other options. I cannot recommend Vertical highly enough, and we will definitely return.

What a stylish new venue! Great mood here. Festive today with classy holiday schmuck! The menu has tremendous depth. Some offerings elaborate, some simple. But all with delicious details. Charcuterie was top shelf. But outdone by the seared fois gras. Is there a perfect fois gras in Detroit? Yes!! Order it at Vertical - and dont share! Chef brought a subtle curry flavor with the sautéed beet mid course. The duck was deboned and mouthwatering. Burger?: "yes". Perfectly cooked Super deep wine list. Attentive service bring a first date here, or your special woman on her anniversary. They will make you look good!

My favorite restaurant to really enjoy some top of the line wines -- they offer flights that are hard to come by, you cant always get these wines they offer by the glass. The food rotates a lot, love the variety. My only issue that I was recently there for dinner and they got rid my favorite dessert, Marscapone and pear -- yummy in my tummy!!! Ive sat in the bar area and the restaurant, I really just let my mood decide, both areas are phenomenal for really enjoying what you came for. The food really is one of a kind; the chef has a brilliant concept of flavors. Definitely in my top five places around town!!

Never go back to the effen place. $150 bottle of wine $30 charcuterie platter and you want to charge $3 for 4 extra toast points? Really, who is the moron that owns that place and makes that choice to not have that in the food cost? I get the place is not Olive Garden, but when I have $300-$400 dinner I kinda expect the toast wont cost me extra.....Sorry, there a dozens of places I can spend my money......idiot owner.

Have been here multiple times and they just lost great paying customers.... drinks and food might be good but once the service gets mediocre, they lose my business. Once we were seated and given the menus, the individual didnt even take our order and served others seated after us..so we went to PUNCH BOWL SOCIAL down the street which always gives us great service busy or not.

Unbelievable wine selection, friendly staff, nice ambiance with a contemporary yet very cozy feel. We had ordered several appetizers to share which were tasty but small and pricey especially the cheese plate which came with one bite size peice of cheese hardly shareable. The octopus and salmon appetizers were better portion and both delicious

This little wine corner is so quaint and classy. The wine selection is extensive and the food is delectable. Its a pricey location but worth it for a nice evening out with friends or coworkers. If you need a place to unwind after a long day of work, Vertical is a great choice.

Great food with an enormous wine selection both bottle and by the glass. The food selection is limited but everything I tried was exceptional! The staff was well trained and very attentive and the owner (Remy?) was walking around checking on customers.

Beautiful spot tucked away but close to Opera House and Musical Hall. The drinks were fabulous and the small plates were amazing! The grapes are a must try!
