Pupusa,Platanos Tamales and some YUCA too Salvadoran national dish is a thick, handmade corn tortilla stuffed with cheese or more. A handmade tortilla is night-and-day different from the thin floppy kind from the factory. You can barely find a handmade tortilla anymore. Theres much more than pupusas on the menu, of course, for Central Americans seeking a taste of home or for Mexicans or gringos who want to branch out. My favorite is the Queso Cheese with Jalapenos off the chart great. You eat da Pupusa by topping with the Curtido a spicy slaw mix then splash with the red sauce then fold together pick up up and eat,,whoa what a messy goodness. The white corn (elote) tamal is quite different: sweet and served with le crema, imported from El Salvador. Not to be missed are fried plantains, a dish made in heaven. It consists of seven warm, fat, sweet perfectly browned plantains, served in the traditional manner with a pool of warm puréed black beans and another pool of cooler crema. These dishes are offered with refried beans and cheese for a unique combo of indulgence which was enjoyed by all,,,a must try for something very different to add to your palate. By far this place is one of the most unique eatings spots around the Detroit area which is centrally located on Livernois just south of I-94 or North of I-75 exits. The place sets back a bit from the street at the corner of John Kronk with a very large parking lot its easy in and out. The media has had many super articles about the amazing meals to fill your belly. The fast friendly spotless clean restaurant will make for a fabulous adventure in your new foodie adventure, you be a regular like me taking family and friends to enjoy a true South American treat. ENJOY

Real Salvadoran food! If youve never had it, I guarantee youll love it. I was born and raised in El Salvador and this place is the real deal. Ingredients are simple, any meal here is very affordable, and theres lots to choose from. Definitely get the pupusas. Theyre thick tortillas stuffed with yummy ingredients. My favorite combination is the pork, beans, and cheese and you have to try them with the tomato sauce and cabbage. Ive taken friends and co-workers (meat eaters and vegetarians) there and everyone has loved the pupusas, tamales (try the sweet corn ones for dessert with the beans and crema), yuca (a stringy potato-like root), platanitos (fried plantains) soups, and pastelitos (fried dumpings stuffed with meat, potatoes, and carrots). Just try everything! Parking is on a dirt lot, but its roomy!

Beware!! There is another Salavadoran Restaurant on Maple Rd and Livernois Rd. "El Guanaco" which I love, except on this occassion I accidentally order from this location. I called back and spoke with the owner who was very rude. I appologized and sent the so called owner "Maricella Gonzales" a check for the amount. I called a few days later and was told that there wasnt any owner by that name. Sadly, I will never visit this location due to the dishonest experience. Not everyone would have called and admitted the error. Rating the service only.

I first read about this restaurant in Eater Detroit. So my friend and I decided to try it for lunch since we work downtown. Its a little hard to find because its set back, and we were a little leery walking in. Once we opened the door and saw the charming, clean restaurant filled with Latino locals, we knew we were in the right spot. I never even heard of a pupusa before today, but let me tell you, it was DELICIOUS. So were the fried plantains! I will definitely be back. What a hidden Detroit gem!!

I love eating here. Great food and prices. If you want some authentic Salvadorean food this is the place to go! Food will compensate for the lack of guest service. Theyre pretty straight forward in that sense. You order the food, they bring the food, you leave. Some people prefer that. I guess Im just needy for attention. ;-)

Excellent food, really great. The staff does not speak english really well, but the food is to die for. For those who dont know, a pap papusa is a fried and stuffed flatbread, kind of like the ultimate tortilla. Very common in Latin America but not in the USA. This makes for a delicious and unique experience you have to try.

First time having pupus and theyre really tasty! I like the vibe of the restaurant and the waitress was really nice. She tried speaking to all of us in Spanish to make it as authentic as possible and that somehow made the entire experience more enjoyable.

Amazing little spot tucked a bit off the road so be sure to slow down when approaching the destination. Pupusas are stuffed corn pancakes that will leave you satisfied and thinking about more. This place is a treasure that everyone should try soon.

We love the food at this restaurant and the prices are very reasonable. Also a great place to take folks from out of town and show them a different side of the city. Not your typical "Mexicantown restaurant".

Good food in a hidden surprising location. Be prepared to speak Spanish when ordering or to do a lot of pointing and gesturing! The menus, however, are in Spanish and English.

Great, authentic pupusas and tamales prepared in a homey style restaurant. Its a bit pricey, but the food is hands down the most authentic Ive had in Michigan so far.

I love this place! The food brings me back to sitting in my best friends kitchen and her mom making pupusas from scratch. So amazing, and the service is great.

Excellent papusas, and the horchata was great, too. The jalapeño papusa had a perfect amount of heat and the beans and cheese were good in all of them.
