The food was pretty decent, not the best sushi Ive had, but far from the worst. The service, however, was atrocious. We felt rushed the whole time, I was told that my ID was fake because of a later expiration date than normal (standard in AZ IDs). Instead of looking it up in the book of ID types that I know every restaurant is required to have, she said she couldnt take it because it was fake. This was immediately a bad start to the evening. she brought the food with the checks, and half the table was served before the other half. She didnt take the happy hour discount off roughly half the checks, and rolled her eyes and asked "really" when we asked for it. It was only 75 cents, but it just seemed like she was trying to get herself an extra tip. Finally, she never got my friend the change for her bill after she paid. When the waitress finally came and asked what we were waiting for, we mentioned the change and she said she was keeping it at the hostess stand for some reason. The rest of the partys change was brought to them. We dont know why she was any different, again, I think she was trying to get some forced tip. Terrible experience, sorry to break the streak of good reviews, but this one really ruined my night.

Quality is consistent and fresh. Its about similar to the other main Sushi restaurants in Rochester (Sumo or Little Tokyo) provided you have not had any bad experiences with them. Everytime Ive gone I walk out feeling significantly better than I came in. Service is excellent, price is reasonable (lunch specials are really inexpensive), and the menu has good variety. I have not tried their entries because I love their rolls so much. They have rich and filling specialty rolls as well as your standard rolls (AAC, california, philadelphia, tuna, etc). The specialty rolls are really impressive surprisingly fill you up more than you would think. The place is always relatively empty. I think its because of the location (left side of a divided highway coming from I75). There is never any wait and the staff is attentive and friendly. Another benefit: take out is FAST and reliable. They can put together fairly large orders in just 10 minutes. My only criticism is they lack a bar. The should sell asian liquor and beers. But hey, you cant drink on your lunch break.

I came here for the first time for lunch and it was really busy, I was able to sit at the "Bar Area" right in front of the Sushi Chef. The wait staff were very nice and attentive to my needs. I knew exactly what I wanted to order Tempura Shrimp Roll and Miso Soup. The Miso Soup was delicious, not as salty as most would be, but just right and very flavorful too. The wait for my Sushi Roll was about 10+ minutes, which is not too bad since there were others there before me and it was a busy lunch hour. The Sushi Chef prepared my roll and handed it to me, I was a bit shocked to see how small the pieces were and it wasnt the right Tempura Shrimp that Im used to ordering from other Sushi places, I thought maybe I ordered the wrong sushi roll, it had Fried shrimp, Rice, and Edamame (Sushi Wrap). That was it!! I guess each restaurant is different when it comes to preparing rolls. I will come back because it was a great experience, however I will definitely ask questions and study the Menu next time so Ill know what Im getting and not feel like I was cheated out of my money.

Great sushi! The employees are authentic and SO nice! The owner is always in and he is very sweet. The sushi is priced the best in town. They dont charge for petty things like adding carrot to a roll. Of course miso and salad for free! The only downside is their cucumber salad isnt vegetarian. Not a big deal everything else makes up for that. Its nice to know what youre getting into. Every time you go its the same good experience.. not up and down like most restaurants. The sushi seems more filling than most places. I think the rolls are bigger. I always leave with a smile because the service and food is SO good. =)

The prices are reasonable, and the food is fantastic! The quality is comparable to that of Noble Fish, but with more options and a nice atmosphere. They are very accommodating of special orders, and will tempura any roll. The service is great, too- I have eaten there many times and never had a server I didnt like. My favorite thing there is the sunday morning roll, a tempura roll with a salmon and cream cheese center. The middle is lightly cooked, leaving the salmon soft and warm, and the cream cheese a little bit melty. They also offer some fantastic ice cream flavors, available plain or tempura-ed.

Good preparation. Nice presentation. The food was fresh and good but somewhat bland especially when you consider they charge more than I would normally want to pay. My guess is with all the higher end jobs in the area, this is how they are able to do that. An extra star was removed, as the table plates were plastic. This is a big turnoff for me, and when you are paying $12 for some rolls, unacceptable. Overall not a bad place. The service was good and food ok. If you have the time and choice, go to Pudthai at Rochester and Auburn (the one in the little strip mall).

I come here about once every couple months or so, and I have yet to be disappointed. Ill usually get a miso soup, ginger (house) salad, spicy salmon roll, and california roll. From time to time, Ill mix up the rolls and try something new. In each case, I feel that the sushi quality for $5-8 rolls is better here than most places. The service has also been top notch. Ive also ordered to-go before, and I was impressed with the careful packaging of each item. I highly recommend this place - dining in or out - to local sushi lovers.

Lunch - October 18 2016 Met a colleague for lunch today at Makimoto. It came highly recommended. The service was great. No issue here. We ordered the Kogi Tempura...looked great, but the was a definite lack of flavor. Eel avocado roll...pretty good flavor here, but nothing spectacular. And the East Roll...again...nothing special. Sadly, the miso soup was the big disappointment. COMPLETELY bland. There are better places in town, but this will do if youre in a hurry or just in the area.

to the owner - I am reading one of the negative reviews by Stephen that does not make any sense because the 18 other are all highly rated. So.. since Stephen will not be coming back I will take his beer :) ( Just kidding ) I am looking forward to check this place out for the first time this comming Saturday. If I experiance more half what other people saw about Makimoto .. i will be more than happy. Cheers :)

Makimoto is a restaurant that everyone should at least visit once. It serves sushi and some Korean style food. It also provides a clean and quiet atmosphere. I simply love the Gyoza they serve, and the Bulgogi is also very delicious. Also, you will hard pressed to find a place that serves better quality sushi than they do. This place is an experience well worth going out of your way for.
