Wow. This place always has a line, so I knew it would be a great place to go with my friend visiting from the South Shore. We waited or turn all for a nightmare. I had brunch here, and it was one of my most awkward/awful experiences. I dont eat meat besides fish, so I asked the waitress if I could get it without the meat items. So I ordered the Portuguese Breakfast without meatcakes and blood sausage. My friend ordered the same thing with blood sausage. The runner brought one order out and gave it to my friend He did not announce it was the order without the meat (a few small sausage like items were on it). He brought Pancakes instead my breakfast, so he had to go get it. When it came, it had meat on the eggs, apparently the blood sausage. My friend was already eating her food, and the waitress callously told us just to switch plates. She then rudely exclaimed, "What do you want me to do?!" I was polite the whole time and told her I did not order blood sausage and it was already on the eggs. She finally took it back and brought back a dish and said no blood sausage was on the new food. This time the rice and beans were missing. I asked for the manager. The waitress came back and said Mario was too busy but comped my food. The stars are for the food (actually tastes good) and for the fact they did apologize, even though decent service from the beginning would have been preferred. The nicest person there was the bus lady. Dont believe the hype.

I mean, its just the cutest place and theres no beating their unstoppable cream of wheat. If youve never been before theres nothing I can do to explain how delicious this cream of wheat is, so youll just have to try it to understand but the nice thing is that you can have it with any of their entrees as an included "side" so you wont have to choose between that and a full meal, although it often is enough to fill me up on its own. Similarly, all breakfasts come with a glass of orange juice, coffee, and fresh breads/cakes included in the price of the meal, which is very cheap. The one thing to know is that they are CASH ONLY, although they have a ATM in their place just in case you forget :) Its the essence of hospitality embodied by the charming Portuguese family who owns and runs the place. Also in the summer they open the patio so you can eat outside under their trellis of grape vines. Go earlier on the weekends (try before 9:30) if youre looking to cut down on the wait, because this place is super popular and I recommend against groups larger than 4 if you can avoid it, although Ive gone with groups up to 8. Even so, they have free coffee and cakes while you wait so if youve got a 30 minutes wait, it aint all that bad. On weekdays, the wait is almost nothing, and this became my parents favorite place to go each morning when they were visiting me. Love it!

I have been going to The Neighborhood for years. There is a reason that it was well over 300 reviews and a 4 star rating. Because it is freakin amahzing. I have waited outside in 20 degree weather for 30 + minutes to get in. I am willing to do that. Expect for there to always be a wait for brunch. You need to wait. The Neighborhood is a Portuguese restaurant but their breakfast is pretty traditional American aside from their Portuguese breakfast option. They also have awesome pancakes with flavors like mango/banana or peach or nutella etc... They have specials each week that cost around $13 and will be more food than you can ever imagine handling. The best as I am sure is clear now that you are reading reviews is the Cream of Wheat. I have not had any other place offer Cream of Wheat. My grandfather used to make me Cream of Wheat, so I love that they have it. You can also choose from a fresh fruit option (things like baked apples). Even if you get pancakes and such you still get eggs, toast, muffin, home fries etc... usually. Usually is all in the special. Coffee and OJ come with it too. FOR $13!! It can get tight space wise and a bit hectic in there and the servers do the best they can. They are usually efficient with it all. Its worth the wait!

Meh. As you can see from my profile I dont normally give 2 stars. I felt strongly enougha about this 2 that I had to write about. My boyfriend and I went to The Neighborhood around 2PM on Sunday afternoon. Were brunchers so this isnt coming from a novice foodie. We sat ouside under their grape vine canopy which was pleasnt on one of the last days of the summer. We shared our sticky picnic table with another couple which we didnt mind. Our bill was rather expensive for one ($40?) that didnt include any mixed drinks or mimosas (which they dont have). I got the pumpkin pancakes which came with scrambled eggs, cream of wheat, and home fries. Included ni our meal was OJ and coffee. There was wayyyy too much food. Im used to American portion sizes but dang. If it was good, I would have taken my left overs home, but it was meh. You know how there are those places where the food is so good youre willing to be boardline masochistic to finish your meal? Yea, this is not one of those places. I kept eating cuz I felt bad about wasting food. For as many reviews as this place has I had faith in the Yelp community to not lead my wrong. Sorry, not sorry but I wont be going back.

At this tiny storefront you see a sign that reads "Welcome to the Neighborhood", the Portuguese breakfast shops tiny interior has a sassy backyard extension where brunchers can eat under a canopy of grape vines. At this neighborhood haunt late morning risers are the mainstay especially since they serve breakfast until four. The menu hues closely to your typical breakfast menu with few exceptions- pumpkin pancakes, french toast on Portuguese bread and a linguica filled omelet. Most of the items are under ten dollars. Whatever you order you get your choice of tea or coffee with free refills and that delicious bowl of cream of wheat. Dishes for the dieters do exist from whole wheat pancakes to egg white omelets. Upon request you can get any style eggies in just egg whites. But dont bother. With their wonderfully tasty cream of wheat smothered with more sugar and butter than youll care to admit. The stuff tastes more like a pudding than wheat!

Go for the cream of wheat and lovely outdoor dining area with pastel umbrellas and grape vines. Stay because you wont be able to get up from the table after the sheer amount of brunch youll be consuming. I risk my relationship every time I tell people about this place because my boyfriend doesnt want the lines getting any longer, but since were moving closer to Neighborhood in the fall, well be able to get there earlier and beat the rush. The key thing, to reiterate, is to get the cream of wheat. Yes, really. Every meal comes with an option of a seasonal fruit or the cream of wheat, and youll get a weird look if you get the fruit. Seriously. This cream of wheat is the best cream of wheat in the world...and possibly even the best food in the world, period. They (obviously) wont reveal the recipe - dont even try asking - but its clearly made of unicorns, rainbows, puppies, and crack. Get there early or be prepared to wait.
