Im a huge fan of cupcakes, had them at my wedding, have had them all over the country and I have never been so disappointed. I bought 5 different cupcakes to try: Cappuccino, Caramel Macchiato, Pina Colada, Boston Cream Pie, and Red Velvet (the standard by which I judge all cupcakes). First, they were tiny, the sort of small cupcake any Joe on the street could make at home with a mix and a pan. They were expensive, $3.25 each, which is really bad for the size you are getting, plus extra for another box to separate them, which is HORRIBLE customer service. Even with the extra box the poor things got badly bruised and smooshed...nice packaging but not very cupcake-friendly. Worst of all they were NOT good! Cappuccino was almost impossibly dense, I actually choked (thank god for a glass of milk nearby). The flavor was good, I actually liked it but could not get over how dense it was. Caramel Macchiato was the exact same cupcake with just a drizzel of caramel sauce (unimpressed). Pina Colada was actually pretty bad and Im a huge fan of coconut. I barely tasted pineapple as it was horribly sweet and the coconut icing overpowered everything. The Boston Creame Pie had the best flavor and texture of them all but was pitifully small...it was hardly a cupcake, it was a dented morsel which apparently didnt rise much with the baking. The Red Velvet was...blah. It had no real cocoa flavor, was more moist than most we tried but not by much. The cream cheese frosting didnt have much flavor to speak of. Had I tested the cupcakes there I would have asked for my money back...a first. So, in short, Sweet should focus their energy on creating delicious and consistent product instead of continuing to open up store after store. If you like insanely sweet, unbareably dense and dry cakes this is the place for you. Put your $3.25 into a box of Pillsbury mix and premade frosting save yourself the trouble. Oh, and while there I noticed that they were receiving their cupcakes from a delivery truck and not making it on-site. Could be that they are spreading themselves too thin and their product is suffering. In a world of heavy cupcake competition they better refocus or they wont be around to open many more store-fronts.

Three of us were making a cup cake tour of Boston and hit Sweet in Harvard Sq. The place looked cool going in, with a very thought-out brand identity. Unfortunately, nothing in the place lived up to that identity! The cupcakes are SMALL and I am not talking about the minis! And EXPENSIVE, $3.25 each! (The most expensive "normal" size cup cakes we encountered.) The cakes, we tried 3, were relatively flavorless with most of the flavor in the frostings. We tried a banana (the cake crumbled as we tried to eat it), a mocha mint (dryish cake with little to no mocha flavor) and boston cream (which tasted just like a boston cream pie, but at $3.25 why not just go buy the real thing?!) was the best. The space itself looks like a boutique, replete with boutique prices...a bit soulless. And the seating is minimal, we wanted to sit but instead had to stand as the 3! tables were occupied by 4! people. We left feeling ripped off and that Sweet was not created from a love of baking but rather from a business plan to profit from the cupcake craze.

Absolutely inedible. I purchased TWELVE for my fiances birthday, trying to do something special that day. They were pricey, but with the whole TV cupcake craze, I thought this would be very special. The cake part of the cupcake tasted stale, as if the cupcakes I selected from the glass case had been in there for several days. The frosting had completely hardened, and was flaky, crumbly, and dry - also as if theyd been sitting around for days. The actual taste of the frosting was truly unbearable. Frosting is supposed to be the best part, but after one bite, we both spit out our mouthfuls - there is a visceral reaction that this concoction will make you sick. Way too thick, buttery, and sugary - somehow in a bad way. Major, major disappointment. They should have fresh cupcakes every day - no excuse. Gross. We threw it all in the trash after finding all 12 cupcakes stale, hard, and inedible - great waste of hard-earned money. Thanks.

Please dont waste your time or money. If you want sub-par cupcakes and absolutely horrific customer service them you will like Sweet cupcakes. Otherwise your experience at Sweet will leave you bitter and unfulfilled. I have tried to place orders for birthday cakes/cupcakes multiple times from Sweet and EVERY time they have accepted my order, taken my money and then the day before delivery cancelled or tried to change the order to something entirely different. If I order 4 dozen mini cupcakes in the fall flavors you cannot change my order the day before to be 2 dozen full-sized cupcakes all in chocolate and vanilla. The point of my order is for the festive fall flavors (pumpkin pie, etc). If I want chocolate and vanilla I will bake it at home where it tastes better anyway. Sweet is terrible and I hope they go out of business.

Beautiful experience, flavor just meh. Went to the new location on School Street. Staff was very friendly and the store is gorgeous. I bought a dozen for a dinner party. Great variety of flavors, and I love that there is a seasonal menu. The cupcakes look great, but for my taste the frosting is overly sweet and the cake itself quite dry. Frosting does have a lot of flavor, but kind of leaves you with that ate too much sugar, tummy hurts feeling. Best flavors were the ones with filling - pina colada was very good and the peach crumb cake was great. Ill keep looking for a Boston favorite, but this will do well enough if you really need a cupcake!

THE best cupcakes Ive ever had come from Sweet in Boston. I love the retro feel of the cafe, the glass jars of candy decorating the counters and the Audrey Hepburn movies playing on the flat-screen tv mounted on the pink and brown papered walls. The cakes are super moist and the icing and fillings are just the right amount of sweet. Each cup cake is painstakingly hand-frosted for a beautifully delicious presentation, My favorites are the Red Velvet (which I want for my wedding cake!), the Carrot Cake and the Vanilla w/ Vanilla frosting. A little dollop of heaven in every mouth watering bite!

Bought a bunch of cupcakes here around Thanksgiving. Were very pretty. Most were tasty except STEER CLEAR of the salted chocolate ones. My family loves salty/sweet and looked very forward to them. They should have been salted on the top with the coarse salt but apparently the baker mixed a large amount in the batter. They were horrendous-inedible. My daughters boyfriend is a chef and he said a place with Sweets reputation should not have made such a rookie mistake. I was disappointed. I am glad we tasted one. I would have been very embarrassed if I had brought them somewhere as a guest.

I dont understand how all these reviews are hating this place! We must have visited different stores. I went to the one on newberry street. and it was a great atmosphere. It was clean and calm. The worker was very polite and friendly, and waited patiently while i struggled to make up my mind. I ended up getting a red velvet cupcake. It was delicious, moist, the cream cheese icing was smooth and oh so amazing. I recommend this place. The only downside is its so close to me Ill probably eat to many! :P
