I have been coming to Mount Vernon restaurant since around the year 2009 for my birthday and most recently for my birthday this past week. What I can say as a veteran to Mount Vernon restaurant is that the staff is pleasant and they ensure that you have a five star dining experience. This restaurant has the best lobster in the state. Their twin lobsters are delicious as well as their steak, macaroni and cheese, butternut squash and onion rings. And they are the only restaurant that I am able to find the Lime Rickey drink. I also love that they have lots of parking in addition to being accessible to public transit. Although I do not drink, Mount Vernon has a restaurant component and a bar area on the opposite side of the wall if a more quite setting is not your thing. Mount Vernon has something for everyone. I would most certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food.

Its good, depending on what kind of good you expect. Its old-school good, low-expectations good, not haute cuisine good. Good for the extended family -- makes grandparents and kids equally happy. Basic preparations of stodgy dishes like roast beef, steak tips, broiled schrod, meatloaf, or twin lobsters. Start with the complimentary basket of fist-sized popovers (great if youre carb-loading). The salads are premade and refrigerated, crisp albeit a bit too cold. Entress also come with the usual choices of baked/mash or that oily rice pilaf. Veg will be olive-colored peas or the better option -- squash. Its like school lunch, done adult style, after youve grown up and never left the neighborhood. All washed down with a little carafe of house cabernet served by the nice lady that calls ya hon.

I cannot believe the bad reviews here. Mt. Vernon is an unexpected oasis in a blighted area of dollar stores and highway overpasses. The moment you walk in, you are met with calming music, and a lovely muted color scheme of dark woods and forest greens. Many on the friendly staff have worked there for decades. You will often see the mayor here, it is a neighborhood place. The pork chops are excellent, the roast beef dinner is classic -- they even have a roast beef KIDS meal for a couple of bucks -- and the lobsters are cheap. So what if they run out of Béarnaise sauce once in a while? Support your local restaurants, people, or there will be nothing left but KFCs and Dunkin Donuts evermore.

Sunday Brunch is simply the best. The Henry Family does it right. Fresh oysters on the half shell, little neck clams, shrimp, omelettes cooked to order, eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, seafood newburg, pancakes, fresh cut fruit, desserts...and Im sure Im leaving lots of other breakfast foods out. All you can eat. The best deal around. Not sure what another reviewer was talking about. This all you can eat buffet is the best around. Had a family reunion there last Sunday. 40 family and friends attended. Each and every one in attendance raved about the food and the service.

Fantastic atmosphere. Casual ambiance with formal flair! The bartender and servers are impeccably dressed and the service is top notch without feeling pretentious. We had the evening special-g beef tips with onions and the chicken pot pie. Both were heavy, filling stews. I strongly urge ordering popovers as a side to mop up the delicious gravy. The meals came with browned/glossy yeast rolls and butter. I tried not to make a giant pig of myself. But gobbling and grunting was totally inevitable. I would not hesitate to eat here again the next time I fly to Boston. *high five*

If youre expecting ambiance or a trendy modern restaurant, you will be disappointed. We had good service, friendly staff - and an excellent set of twin lobster dinners. More of a diner feel than a nice restaurant. I dont know that I would have branched off far from what the place is known for - I certainly wouldnt have ordered a Filet Mignon. Great dinner - very affordable compared to most other places. I would definitely go back again for the lobsters and have recommended it to a friend who doesnt live far away.

This restaurant is old and old school. It feels like the type of place that would have blue plate specials where my grandma would go for dinner at 5 pm. But they have pretty good deals on broiled lobsters, the waitstaff is very friendly, and their dirty martinis are really good. Its not as inexpensive as I was expecting considering their lobster deals but I would definitely go back. Its a famous local joint and worth a stop over to reminisce about days of yore and grab some lobster and a drink.

Eat good in the hood. This place has a lot of local character (and characters), a friendly staff, decent food, great prices and a throw-back atmosphere. This part of Somerville still has yet to be taken over by yuppies and hipsters and has a lot of the flavor that other parts of Somerville have lost overe the years. The Mt. Vernon is the crown jewel of the "old school" and is a great place to drink some beers and watch a game...and leave at the end with some money still in your pocket.

Very nice waitress but not a healthful experience. Tried to order the swordfish but the waitress said she had gotten many complaints. Ordered the salmon with the sauce on the side - good call because the sauce tasted like pure sugar. Lobster raviolis were ok - but had barely any lobster - tasted like pure pasta with a hint of lobster. Id need HUGE incentive to try again. Not impressed!

Where do I start this place is a real diamond in the rough! Never disappoints. Always have good beer on tap with quick and friendly service . The staff is dressed to the nines sporting vests and bow ties ready to take your order. The food brings you to a time when home cooked meals were the norm along with friendly service. Your visit to the Mount Vernon will always be one to remember.
