The service, particularly the youngish African American girl in the RedSox cap with an attitude problem. This was our first time here, we walked over (and past other options) from BMC. The online menu is different than whats actually offered, no biggie, theres other choices. The chaotic scene at the counter, where lines from opposing entryways meet, was apparently our fault and we were dealt with as such. Our friend behind the counter copped attitude when we werent sure how to go about ordering (think Soup Nazi), and apparently we were in the way, unknowingly. But enough about that..I decided I would like a coffee, so I went back to order one after placing our lunch order. As I was heading back to sit at the bar to eat, I faintly heard my name being called in the next room over the dull roar of the staff and guests...my fiance isnt used to answering to my name, so didnt hear it right away. Clearly this was another mistake made by us, as indicated by the muttering "I only had to say it 5 times.." by our friend in the Sox cap as I passed by her on the way back with my coffee. Now to eating! Wait...no napkins. And none in sight. Back on the hunt...I found some way on the other side by the DIY coffee station by the counter. On the way BACK once more I see my new friend in the Sox cap..now she looks down when I glance in her direction? I guess were done here? The shame is, we just got here for our first time...and well be back in town frequently, but wont be back to see our young African American friend in her Sox cap. I felt enough about this to write this as Im sitting at the bar in the back eating.

I visited the cafe side of the Buttery (on Shawmut) on a weekend morning. The most enjoyable thing about my experience was the Smoked Salmon Bagel which was really quite delicious. Unfortunately it wasnt what I ordered. Having waited 15+ minutes I decided to just eat what I was given. What amounted to my disappointing experience was a series of minor unpleasantries; the barista forgot to serve me my slice of cake, our coffees came in to go containers even though we ordered "for here", there was a 15 minute wait for breakfast food even though it did not seem that crowded, I wasnt given what I ordered, the cafe was cold (we could see our breath at one point), and there was a draft coming through the fire exit door. Although it was a record setting cold temperature, I guess I can forgive that one but cafe just did not have any redeeming qualities. The seating was also awkward. To sit at a table near the window you had to ask someone at an outside table to move so you could squeeze in. And if you sat at an outside table you were too close to the foot traffic moving between the entrance and the line. There is a bar counter on the other window with better seating but it happened to be full. The cafe is fine for a snack or coffee-to-go but I would not recommend spending time inside.

This was what I wrote to management and they never responded. Im not going back there nor will I support it. First of all, I just want to let you know that we love the Buttery and go there all the time for coffee. So, last night, we decided to go to your restaurant for a nice dinner.. The downstairs dining space was lovely. We enjoyed the ambiance, but not the dinner because we found the food to be overly salty. We ordered the mussels, the argula salad and the turkey burger. Everything was way too salty. The fries were coated with salt and they were still too salty even after I used my knife to scrape off the salt. I am not sure if last night was just an off night or someone in the kitchen was a little heavy handed on the salt. It is easy for customers to add salt, but very difficult to take away the salt in the food. At the end of the meal, our waitress Erika asked us how the meal was and we told her that everything was too salty. I hope that our feedback will helpful because we would like to come back and try it again, less the salt.

Came to the restaurant part on my birthday...all stars are for food(id give 5 if I could base it just on food alone)...service was outstandingly bad!!! We reserved table a month in advance, and the person on the phone was very accomodating, but when we got there I personally felt ignored the while time...when we were seated we waited for anyone (server, backserver , anyone)to come up to our table for 20 min...no one even said hi, offered water or bread...after 20 min a server showed up and acted like nothing happened... We had to ask for bread, wait forever for drinks etc. Ill stop here, it was really bad and I want to forget about it...food is delicious tho, thank you to the kitchen!!! Good luck with your business!!!

The food well thought out and the brunch prices reasonable and a nice serving size. A few oddities, the menu shows scones with clotted cream, but they served lightly whipped cream instead of clotted cream, a disappointment, hopefully this is not because they think their customers will not know the difference. And a celery leaf was accidentally served with the scone. They must not serve much tea, it is a generous pot, but the use of both a tea bag and the pot stainer, prevented the tea from making enough contact with the water to steep. The staff is friendly and helpful, and willing to correct any issues, but of course it is much nicer to have a well executed meal.

Fantastic spot and Friendly staff. We went here for brunch with friends from Korea with their kids. I wasnt sure what to expect since we hadnt been before, but it was so amazing to walk through with the scent of all the fresh pastries. We were seated downstairs in a beautiful and intimate room. The staff was very helpful and patient as we were catching up and taking our time to order. They were very accommodating to the one little guy who wasnt so interested in talking. And the food-- so delicious! homemade biscuits, pancakes, scones. Everything on the plate was perfect. Juices and bloody marys were delicious too! Nothing short of a great brunch experience.

I come here frequently for coffee and a good carrot cake cupcake. The atmosphere is great. Cozy tables and great outdoor seating. The pastries and cupcakes are very good. They are no Flour bakery but they consistently have carrot cake cupcakes which Flour does not. The icing is good and the cake is always moist. The cookies are good as well. The service is always great. You never have to wait long for your drink and they keep long lines moving quickly. Great great location in the South End as well which probably the reason I will continue coming here so often. I can stop here and they go to Formaggio and hit up all my favorite South End favorites.

My husband and I ate dinner in this restaurant this evening. Items on the menu were not available (sweet potato fries, lettuce wedge). I ordered a turkey burger which was tough to chew and came with cheese that wasnt listed on the menu. I sent it back and ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. In the meantime, my husband ordered the hangar steak which was ok but he ate it while it was hot and I waited for my meal. When my salad came, the chicken was overdone. After we ate, the wrong bill was delivered to our table. The bill was corrected and the salad and the turkey burger were not charged. All in all, it was a disappointing dining experience.
