The food was excellent. I started off with the Squid Ink Fusilli, the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. It had a light red sauce that paired well with the sweetness of the Maine lobster and the panko gave the dish a little texture without taking about from the flavors. A very well balanced dish. 2nd Course was the Butter Roasted Salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the skin was nice and crispy. The sauce was some kind of butter emulsion, that complemented the fish beautifully. I will however say there was a little bit too much beans on the dish. But overall the dish was amazing. The drinks were fantastic, better than most high-end restaurants in Boston. I was able to sit on the counter by the kitchen and I recommend you also do so, if its available. The kitchen brigade is on par with what the French do (Google: Escoffier). Theres amazing attention to detail. Everyone from different stations is working together. There is always someone in the pass checking dishes before they got out. Top notch.

This is a tough one. When it first opened, Steel and Rye was really exceptional. The best option youd find outside of Boston, and a menu and atmosphere that could legitimately compete with Boston restaurants. It was one of the few places worth leaving the city for. Things have changed. Prices have gone up, quality has declined, its just become a whole lot more generic. This can even be seen in specific dishes. The quality of the bread isnt half what it used to be. The meatballs, which were once perfectly blended and tender, topped with a hen egg, in a really delicate tomato sauce, are now these tough things with too much pork. Likewise, their homemade pasta used to be perfectly made and cooked every time. Lately Ive seen it seriously overcooked. These are basic things. At this point I can make several of these things better in my own kitchen than I can get at S&R. Ill give it a few more chances, because I truly loved this place, and I hope they manage to salvage it.

I have never been treated worse at a restaurant in Boston until tonight. I was eating alone tonight. I valet parked and got seated at a table in the bar. I sat for 15 minutes before I went to the hostess to ask for a server. It was not that busy. The server came over with an attitude. No apology for never acknowledging me when he walked by me 5 or 6 times and when I voiced displeasure he replied he was busy. I got up and proceeded to leave. I stopped to tell the hostess what happened and she said she would tell the manager. ?? She should have called the manager right then. Makes me wonder if the color of my skin had anything to do with my treatment. I live in Milton. I am a executive at a major company. I was professionally dressed. I happened to be without my husband. I was tired and just wanted a glass of wine and dinner. I hope I am wrong about my treatment and it was just a bad waiter experience.....

The reason it was this expensive was because we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. We started with the chorizo breadcrumb topped clams which were cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of seasoning. Then we had to have the foie gras due to the recommendation in Details magazine, and to compare flavors to nostalgia I would say the foie gras was like butter and the pear butter was like a sweet jam spread on the perfectly toasted fresh brioche bread. We enjoyed the braised land shank and double cut pork chops and did not complain about anything. Mind you we only ate half our meals to save room for desert (that is also made in house) that topped the night off. If you live in the area I would say this will be your new hang out with great ambiance, courteous and prompt staff. To the new staple!

Hard to imagine not loving this upscale, beautifully designed bar/restaurant housed in an repurposed auto repair garage. The menu is tight, the New American cuisine is fresh and interesting, and the service is highly professional. Even our usual challenges with places like this, the noise level, is moderated nicely here with plenty of wood to absorb the excited chatter of guests. We opened with a selection of plates to share for the table, the star of the show being the harissa lamb meatballs. Over the course of the meal we tried nearly everything on the menu and didnt find any missteps.

We went there for a friends birthday party with a sizable group and were anything but disappointed. The decor is a classy mix of aged mill and contemporary materials that is sure to make any outing feel special. Drink selection is nice (loved the selection of rye beers), appetizers surpassed expectations (ordered and tried them all) and the main courses were "are you serious?!"ly good. The dessert selection was on par with the rest of the experience and nicely varied (also ordered and tried them all!). I will definitely be going back here.

Tiny, pretentious menu with gigantic prices and almost nothing on there for the common appetite. "The Burger" ($16 btw lol) was a sloppy, mushy mess that left me feeling nauseated several hours later. The ambiance is nice, but Im not sure any amount of ambiance can make up for the lack practicality of the menu and food. I dont foresee myself going back here voluntarily.

I love love love this place. We go at least once a week. They have great cocktails and their menu changes frequently so you can go more than once and enjoy a variety of dishes. They cook seasonal dishes but also have wonderful core dishes that stay on the menu longer. Their pizza is amazing. They make their own bread and if you take it home it makes the best toast.

Thank God there is the Steel and Rye in Milton. Long overdue for the area to get a good restaurant. The location is great (can use some extra parking, but the Valet service is great!), and the food is great (can use some more Vegetarian dishes). I go there pretty regularly now meeting with friends and neighbors, and its a blast.

Car in late on a Sunday. Figured a burger and something off the cocktail menu ought to hit the spot. As always the food and atmosphere were great, but the Mello music and small crowd made it almost intimate. Just an amazing way to wind down a weekend and get ready to get back to the world. Cant wait to come back.

We love going to Steele and Rye, it has become our "go to" spot. The food is reliably excellent, and they have a great bar. The chic warehouse decor adds to the experience, there is always a great buzz. The swordfish is some of the best Ive ever had. Save room for dessert, the pastry chef is a magician..

The food was good, but occasionally overpriced and it seemed like some entrees were incomplete. They offer a wide variety of cocktails and take a lot of pride in them. The service was attentive, but almost aggressively so in some ways. The atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing, but a bit loud and quite crowded.

Ive been here twice and both times I really enjoyed the food. What I like best about Steel & Rye though is the atmosphere. Its got a great American rustic feel to it. The staff is very friendly and helpful if you arent sure of a good wine pairing or have questions on the menu.
