Decent but certainly not outstanding. For dinner, I had the baked cod and my wife had fried clams. The texture of the cod could have been firmer; it was placed on top of buttered mashed potatoes and broccoli, such that the butter seeped up and made the fish mushy. The mashed potatoes were unremarkable, and then broccoli was slightly overcooked. My wifes fried clams and fries that came with them were okay, but nothing special. Her cole slaw was quite good. In addition, I have to say that the menu was not terribly exciting. All in all, a solid but not outstanding place to eat.

An excellent dining experience in past times, the Rudder feels like a restaurant thats living on its reputation alone. My dinner there was mediocre at best. I ordered tuna rare and it was delivered well done. The excuse I was given was that my companion had ordered her Salmon well done so it would have been hard to time the tuna to be rare. The raw bar is now gone.With this type of service I suspect the Rudder is on the long slow slide to Oblivion

Uninspired food and poor service. The wedge salad came with romain lettuce and while strips of bacon. Our entrees came while still eating our salads. Tasted like they sat under the warming lamp while we ate our salad. Much less busy on a Friday night than we remember. Have had good meals in the past. Wont be back.

Food was very tasty but service was lacking. Another table came immediately after us and got drinks 5 min before ours arrived. Another patron came in after we had placed our order and he received his dinner before us. Parking is very challenging however 1/2 how all items made it all worth it!

High marks for ambiance. We were a party of 4 (2 of us from NY and 2 from CO). Our waitress Holly, anticipated our needs and the timing of the food delivery was to perfection. Dinner was delicous and the fresh salmon was done to perfection. We all recommend Rudder highly.

Ive been here a few times now. The food, the wait staff and owners... this place is amazing all around. The seafood is delicious; try their crab cakes appetizer, and absolutely order the shrimp & lobster scampi! Easily my favorite restaurant in Gloucester!!

The atmosphere and location are tremendous. I know for a fact they only use the freshest and highest quality ingred. The staff is mostly the same year in and out, meaning they actually can help you in your decision making and take pride in their jobs.

We went on a Tuesday evening, when the food was half price. What a deal! The broiled scallops and the lobster and shrimp scampi were delicious, and the view across the harbour was superb. We will definitely be back.

One of our favorite places nestled on rocky neck. Sit at the bar or out back on the deck overlooking the water. Delectable food and even sushi now. Bring your friends and a camera!
