When I lived in Sharpsburg this was my go to spot! I first went by not knowing what to expect, but I found the staff friendly and the owner seemed to go out of his way to make patrons feel welcome. Matter of fact I played corn hole for the first time out in their back beer garden...yes I said corn hole! I was in the area recently and decided to stop in, but as I was parking I noticed they had replaced the American Flag they had always flown out front with the Rebel Flag. Which, as a private business, is their right. With out getting into the drama of the recent controversy... as a person of color, I was disappointed seeing it outside of Benders. Benders has great food, lots of beer on tap, a beer garden and cool staff so I cant in its essence give it a bad rating....... hence the 5 stars. Its just a shame, as it is my right, I had to cross it off my list of go to spots.

I am a Civil War historian who appreciates the local flair of battlefeild towns. This restaurant is located in the lovley historic town of Sharpsburg which has not changed much from the 1860s. The town is in the middle of Antietam National Battlefield Park, one of Americas bloodiest battles. Everytime I visit I stop here. They have great food which I would consider a step up from typical bar food. The decore is nice and it is located in a very historic building. Stop in and strike up a conversation with the great staff, catch a game, or play darts on one of their many boards.

Second time we stopped there, same nonsense: Sharpsburgs finest drunken townies, the help way too busy talking to each other to stop over, and the waitress drinking with her friends to ever stop over and take an order. No reason to stop, drive down to Shepherdstown, and go someplace decent. This place has another owner, and Im sure that it will be sold after these guys fail as well. Really not worth the stop, really unprofessional and lame employees top to bottom. It looks like everyones just too busy to bother doing their jobs.

It was okay...the portions are reasonable and the food is good, but not spectacular. The service is, well, not good. But all in all it was a good experience. My boyfriend and I split The Monument and it was far more food than we could finish even together. The fries are nothing spectacular, but the burger was good. The chili is AMAZING! Spicy, but definitely recommended. All in all I dont know how often well go here but Im sure well go back at some point.

We entered and server was on his phone texting. Took a, minute to come to the table to get our drink orders. After placing drink orders, he wouldnt serve someone in our group since their ID was vertical, even though they are well over 21.. we got up and left. He stated it was the law. Upon further investigation, it is the owners discretion. Your loss of $150 before tip.

We stopped in here for lunch while touring the Antietam Battlefield. We were a group of six adults and two kids. The food was good - bar food. They have the local brew. I wouldnt call it kid friendly but it served our purposes well. Id recommend it for a sit down lunch stop in if in the area. Its Cash Only.

First time here and tried their all you can eat wings and dollar beer...great stuff. ....after 2 servings of the "death wings" threw in the towel....I knew it would be an experience when they handed me gloves with my wings.....but Id do it again. And the service.....our waitress Angel was awesome...

I have had many a drunken night here. I was drinking here since I was 17 years old and because I knew all of the staff I was never questioned. This kind of service with a personal touch is what keeps me coming back to captain benders. This why I forgave them for the whole Confederate flag thing.

Just picked this place off the Internet after visiting the battlefield and what a win. Fantastic food at gest prices and super friendly people. The only hitch I could say is that they advertise cash only bit will, in a pinch, take credit. Otherwise, if youre in the area, make a trip.

Happened across this place after visiting the battlefields. Expected a dinky little diner, but ended up finding some great food and a good beer selection. They have an awesome like and pistachio salad dressing. If you find yourself here, definitely drop by.

I had the fish & chips with their stout that was on tap. Service left a little to be desired & the outdoor seating smelled like their rotting garbage. But all that can be looked over because the staff was really nice & the food/beer was delicious.

Go early, they close well before published hours. Been by last 3 times 15-60 minutes early, two on weekend nights.. dont count on the late night bite or beverage here. Food and drink selection is decent.. if theyre open.

Delicious food and super service - they were kind enough to make us fantastic chicken sandwiches when the kitchen was closing as we arrived late in to town during a biking trip. Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere !

We stopped in here after running around the battlefield all day. It was pretty mediocre. I wouldnt recommend it. We had considered finding a Chick-fil-A on the way home and I wish we had.

I have ate here many times, the food is good and the drink specials are a good price. If you like wings (bone in) check this place out, I prefer their wings to Buffalo Wild Wings wings.

I go here occasionally for the AYCE Wings on Wednesday evening. The service on wings is generally good, but anything coming from the bar is usually fairly slow (Drinks, water, etc.)

It doesnt look like much, and they only take cash, but the food is fantastic. Good draught beer selection, friendly staff. If youre in town its totally worth a visit

Ate here while touring Antietam Battlefield. Had the All American burger and fries. Burger was great and fries are homemade. Lady working there was nice.

Good beer, good staff and GREAT food. The cream of crab soup and hot wings are the best in Maryland. Stay away from the burgers(fake char taste).

Wednesday "all you can eat wings" night! And beer! Need I say more? However, the crab cake sandwich was great, with fast and friendly service.

Best place in the Sharpsburg/Keedysville/Boonsboro area to eat and drink at hands down. Come on Wednesdays for AYCE wings and $1 Natty bohs!
