I only went there once for lunch. The place looked and smelled old. I was seated in a small booth from where I was able to see the rest of the restaurant. I was served water and green tea immediately by someone who looked like a busboy. The waiter came a little while later and was downright rude to me, his first statement to me was "what do you want"? I was surprised as I saw him tending to other tables with smiles and small talk. So my conclusion was him being rude to me was due to me being non-white as all the other tables were filled with lunch crowds consisting mostly of white guys/gals. He did not tell me about the lunch specials, never asked me if I needed anything in the 3 encounters I had with him during my lunch. The food was horrible, I have never had Kung Pao shrimp this bad in my life. The dish tasted like it was cooked days ago, and they just reheated and poured some extra Soy sauce on top. I guess if you are caucasian, and enjoy so-so Chinese food, then this is the place for you. Warning to Non-Caucasians: be prepared for rude treatment and lousy food.

Casual- nice attire, not a place for t-shirt and cut off shorts. Place is a bit older but clean. Monday night about 7 there were a few tables but not a wait. Fun little pond with goldfish for the kids. Server was very quick at table while taking orders and our glasses consistently full. Complimentary hot tea. VERY few vegitarian options. Dish portions were large and came with a small (desert cup sized) bowl of white rice. Definitely sharable but if you want rice or noodles order them, it wont last the full meat plate. Didnt see a childs menu though they were accommodating making our sons food not spicy. The typical fried chicken dishes were extremely lightly battered, not like the cheap fast food style Chinese food. The main dishes came out very quickly, table was happy with flavor, my dumplings were delayed for whatever reason. They were steamed nicely, not soggy, the vegitarian fill was unique and pretty good. Overall a good experience, if you like Chinese food, check it out.

We arrived with our uncle from out of town expected delicious peeking duck (a tradition) the $38 duck arrived with less than 2 cups of meat and 10 to 12 pieces of skin around the outside. A dish of spring onion and cold fajita like pancakes arrived beside. The duck, although decent tasting, was not worth the price. The skin was soggy and unflavorful with little crisp. We asked for extra sauce to which our waiter responded that the sauce we had should be enough for a family of four. Along with the duck we also order spare ribs which were average and nothing special. The wine which was normally a $12-$15 bottle was triple the price and drinks were not free refill. Overall not worth the money spent and the atmosphere was unfriendly. Would not recommend to anyone and suggest finding elsewhere.

Food is good enough and nice setting inside. Thought it would be good to host a dinner party here. Tried to book a dinner for 50 people. They told me it has to be a set menu that charged $35/person. I said our party wont eat that much nor would know if they wanted to eat those dishes. They said thats the rule. My in-law was able to convince the owner to let us choose our dishes. We made a menu that was about $12 a person and the owner said it has to be at least $28/person-in fact it had to be $1400 + tax + tip. I like the place but honestly it is not a upscale restaurant to be charging these prices, especially if they serve the same dishes you get at carry out restaurants. Very disappointing experience.

Perhaps the worst bang for your buck attempted under Chinese ownership in Montgomery County, MD. All dishes are overpriced in comparison to other local Chinese restaurants with the same, and often better quality of food. This is why you will NOT see many Asians eating here.... they know it is a rip-off! Far East boasts Szechuan and Mandarin cuisine as a specialty, yet no Chinese customers are seen eating it! :-) They also have a malcontent family-owner Susan (acting as manager). Ugh....she greets guests with a frown and offers terrible services. She thinks the 1970s decor and ambiance translates to a higher price for customers to pay. *Take my advice and take your business elsewhere!!

Inconsistency I enjoyed their tea smoked duck with a group of seven people two night ago, so I ordered a take-out whole duck yesterday. After getting home, I found that a half of the duck had rosy colored meat as expected, but the other half was grey and appeared to be reheated more than once. Moreover, the duck dish was without the meaty legs! Of the six main courses we had two night ago, salt and pepper shrimp tasted stale and too salty, and steamed whole rock fish was over cooked and low in flavor. Besides the duck, only the sautéed pea sprout was perfect. After the disappointing take-out duck, I have abandoned any idea of returning to Far East.

We used to go to this restaurant for years and it was always pretty good. 2 last times it was so bad like there was major change in cooking staff. Yesterday we ordered carry out and we end-up just throwing it away. When Ive ordered, I have asked for less salt(several time)....the food came so over-salted, it was not edible. Also we have ordered "chicken with eggplant", but we got just eggplant without chicken. I did call the next day and talked to the manager about this incident and she offered to get me another order of eggplant with chicken this time. Needless to say we will not go to this restaurant any more. We will look for another restaurant.

FINALLY! Weve found them!!! The owners of the Red Pearl that closed in Columbia few years ago opened a new restaurant here and we did not know about it : ( !!! OH BOY! How we were missing you all these years!!! But enough of all the emotional sentiments and lets get to the business. Far East is the same "pearl" or gem if you will in point of food (I am talking about Dim Sum experience only), service and value. And the ambiance is very nice and clean too. GOD BLESS THIS RESTAURANT and give it a LONG and SUCCESSFUL LIFE TOO!!! We will be back.

Dim Sum was pretty good for the area considering our alternative is New Fortune. We were a party of two and skipped a massive line (45min+ wait) and got seated in the center. No one told us that none of the carts come our way because of stairs. Yes, stairs...arch nemesis of dim sum carts and those in wheelchairs. Eventually, I realized the stair issue and brought my card(sheet where they notate what you ordered) to a cart and got my own food. Also, got my own water , napkins, and hot sauce. Its hard to find great food and great service...

Ive been here twice in the last two months for Dim Sum on Sunday. the wait staff is super attentive and nice. The food is probably the best in the area for Dim Sum and the selection while not being the biggest is definitely worth checking out. For lunch on a weekday the lunch specials are great too. The portion for the price is great and I dont feel bloated or ill like I do after eating at a place like Panda Express. Cant say enough great things about this place!
