Poor treatment of customers. We visited The Cellar on 01/13/2017. The four of us arrived at about 6:15. Three of the four of us ordered Happy Hour drinks at about 6:20 – 6:30. Happy Hour ran from 5:00 – 7:00. We told our server that we’d want to order another round before Happy Hour ended and she told us that she’d give us a 5-minute warning. And while it was busy that evening and our server was training a new server who was shadowing her, the following should never have occurred. At 3 minutes to 7:00 our server returned and took our second drink order. We didn’t change anything. “Another round”. The server and her trainee went to the order kiosk and I saw our server showing her trainee how to enter our order. Drinks came. Food came. One in our party had to leave early and asked for her bill to be split out. When it arrived we saw that the second drink was full price. We questioned the server and were told ‘well…that’s because it was entered at exactly 7:00’. Another in our party reminded her that we’d placed our order with her just prior to 7:00 and that the discount should have been applied. Our server left to ‘see what she could do’. We felt a more proper response would have been ‘you’re right, let me fix it’. Lisa the manager came to our table shortly thereafter and handed two of the three ladies who’d ordered Happy Hour drinks cash refunds. One in our party said ‘thank you for helping but you shouldn’t have had to do this, we did order before 7:00’. Lisa said ‘don’t worry about it, we just took it out of her tip jar’. Whaaa!!!??? It should NEVER have come out of her tip jar. Either the server or Lisa should have been able to edit the order in the computer. They could have deleted the order and re-entered it, or issued a refund within the computer, or issued a discount within the computer. If we ordered before 7:00 and the server was instructing a new employee why did the server suffer the loss? We felt the handling of this issue was improper and a little bit rude. And even if Lisa felt it was the fault of the server there was no need to tell us it was taken from her tip jar. In addition, the third person never got their refund.
