From the start it was dentin to be a bad night. We showed up on time for a reservation fora party of 15 (4 toddlers 1 infant). After waiting at the abandoned hostess stand for about 5 minutes (with plenty of employees passing us by with not even a courteous "it will be just a minute") the hostess showed up to tell us they didnt have a table for us and we would have to wait for another table to finish before we were sat....and they were just served appetizers. After some negotiations they agreed to push some tables together to give us a table...how nice for a group that made a reservation over a week ago. Next it took over 15 minutes to get a drink order and over 45 to take the dinner order. The waitress seemed extremely bothered to have to wait on a large table. After taking our orders it was another 45 minutes before the food came out. Now for anyone with kids, what happens when youve been at a restaurant when 4 kids go without food for an hour and a half....well its not good. When the food did arrive the kid who delivered it tossed the plates on the table, and I mean tossed, even the plates in front of the kids. He failed to tell us the kids plates were extremely hot, good thing we checked before the kiddos burned themselves. The food was sub par at best. Most meals were cold and unappetizing. My meal was half a cold chicken breast with store bought BBQ sauce and cold French fries. Not at all with $15.00. My wife had some chicken bowl that was almost inedible. The waitress never checked in to see how we were or we would have told them. And to boot, the playground...which was why we went there with 4 toddlers, was closed because it was flooded with, as the manager put it, raw sewage. DISGUSTING!! I hope they replace the sand afterward but with how everything else went I doubt they will. The restaurant seemed more interested in serving mass amounts of alcoholic drinks to patrons on the deck then serving food in the restaurant. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone at all. Very over priced, unfriendly service, cold food, not worth it. Save yourself the headache go to 7-11 it would be better.

We have been to this place in the past few years a number of times, the food and service have been hit or miss. However, being that it is local we would continue to give them the benefit of the doubt, and for the most part the good has out weighed the bad. We were out one evening to meet up with some friends for a birthday celebration, we came by boat (dinghy to be precise). When we showed up there was a dock hand greeting us by informing us that there is a $10 charge to dock with a 2 hour minimum. We thought this to be ridiculous and proceeded to beach the boat, which we were not allowed to do because of jet ski rental had the area claimed. So, we were going to go home and drive over, but decided that they were not worth our money. Why is it we can get into our car, drive to the establishment and park free of charge, yet if we want to come by water we have to pay them money before we even receive any service? I have noticed the patron dock is empty most of the time and have spoken to other boaters who share this same feeling. They are literally watching their money ride out with the tide by applying this charge. There are plenty of other restaurants (better restaurants) nearby on the water that do not charge for docking because THEY WANT YOUR BUSINESS! We will not return to Coconut Joes....BY LAND OR SEA!

my husband and I went to Coconut Joes tonight to try to enjoy the outside environment, drinks and dinner. Man, were we ever disappointed! We arrived a few minutes after 5 pm tonight (5/26/14) and after walking around the outside looking for a table, agreed to order drinks and sit inside while we would wait for a table to become available. We were given a pager and told there were 2 parties ahead of us. We ordered our drinks (inside the restaurant) and the waitress messed up both of them. (an mixed drink and an iced tea). We then began to wait.....and wait....and after 1 hour, I went to the hostess to ask what was happening - I was told the kitchen was backed up so no one was being seated. 30 minutes later, I went back to the hostess stand and was told the kitchen ran out of food and it would be awhile. After almost 2 hours of waiting we were told that the kitchen was indeed not prepared for the numbers of people who came to dine and that there was not much food left to cook. At that point, my husband and I were hungry, not happy that no one communicated with us and we left the pager and walked out. What could have been a nice relaxing and enjoyable evening turned out to be very disappointing.

I used to be a server and I was appalled at the lack of service at Coconut Joes last night. We started inside for happy hour. It was sweltering and the cocktail waitress introduced herself and disappeared (I spotted her by the kitchen chatting up a guy). We quickly moved outside to an open table. The table was dirty, drinks were taking 20 minutes to come out and our server was swamped. In order to not spend the evening waiting on the server to have a "moment" to wait on us we were ordering 2 drinks at a time. The food was decent but hugely over priced. For $11 we had barely enough over-cooked shrimp to share and for $13 we got a tiny helping of Tempura beef and seared tuna. The only thing going for this place is the location. They have 2 decks over looking the South River and a playground for kids. Beware: Happy hour sounds good- $1.00 all drinks- but management needs to get everyone on the same page. Some servers/bartenders say specialty drinks are included and others dont. The bar tab had the final ruling - Not included. This is one person that will NOT be returning especially after a frustrating evening of no service and a $95.00 bill for 2.

Pros: great location, awesome outdoor seating, kids love the pirate playground, friendly service Cons: Only certain tables allow for happy hour specials, so if we wanted to get half off apps and $1 beer, we would be out of sight of the kids on the playground. Great if you like Budweiser, otherwise beer options are typical and generic. Ordered wings for an app. Not the place to do so. Used to OLoughlins which are bigger and better seasoned. Got Old Bay wings. The seasoning was so overpowering we couldnt finish. Kids ordered pizza and chicken tenders. Chicken tenders were and are always a hit. Pizza looked straight frozen and heated up pan pizza, definitely did not look made there. I get its not a pizza place but probably shouldnt have it on the menu. Overall, not impressed. Traveling mid week to Edgewater from Arnold isnt worth it. Heard positive things but didnt hold up. Location and service 4 Food and prices 1
