The food and service here are good and the decor is colorful yet comfortable. They also have a cute bar area. The food is true Mexican, not necessarily what I was used to (for example I did not like the nachos at all as they were sparse and small, and the cheese wasnt melted (I asked if they could please melt the cheese for me and they refused....really??) - not what I was expecting. But i did like my entree and dessert quite a bit. The servers are not always completely conversant in English but that was really ok for me - it just took a bit of extra time to order...but all the servers are quite nice. The only thing that was really bad was at the end of our meal - we were still chatting for a bit (not even a long time) and we were still having a drink too - but the server came over and asked us if we could please order dessert bc the manager was asking her why we were still there if we were done eating...seriously?? Now mind you, we had only just finished eating for probably less than 10 minutes, and they were not even busy (it was a weeknight) AND I had just ordered another beer. It was bizarre, but we werent ready to go home yet so we did order dessert to get our server to leave us alone - and we did enjoy the dessert (fried ice cream). If not for that very bad ending to our night I probably would have given the place 4 stars. That said, I will give the place one more try bc its close to home and the entrees were quite good. Still, Ive never in my life had someone tell me to order dessert 10 minutes after dinner in order to keep the table when the place wasnt busy - and it was only about 8pm at that point (and many other diners were still eating) - so its not like it was getting late and they wanted to close. Weird - we laughed about it bc it was so nuts (and we didnt mind eating the dessert), but honestly it was terribly tacky. But I will try it one more time and see how it goes.

There is a lot to say that is positive about this new Columbia location restaurant. The food is truly really great. The salsa is fresh and made from scratch. Definitely not from the jar. The portions are generous. I have ate from here several times now and always have a hard time choosing what I want to eat because there are so many GOOD choices. I would have to recommend a number of dishes such as El Favorito, Enchilada Suizas, Grilled Shrimp Tacos (not on the menu but all you have to do is tell your server you want to sub it out. tastes great with a side of avocado as well :), the Taco Salad, and more! The happy hour menu is selective, but good. For each day Monday- Friday a particular margarita (theyre HUGE) and type(s) of beer will be on special. They are also currently adding food deals for the happy hour menu which is fabulous!! No better combo then drink AND food specials. Anyway as you can see I am very fond of the place. I have experienced many mexican/other hispanic culture restaurants and have grown up closely with hispanic families so I have a pretty good idea of how things should taste. This is definitely one of my new favorite spots to eat and drink margaritas!

Cinco de Mayo quickly became my favorite Mexican place once they opened. Their food portions are perfect in my opinion, and the quality is excellent. The gratis chips and salsa are fresh, and Cinco de Mayo actually made me like guacamole. The various fajitas are my favorite entrees, and they have several unusual combinations to keep it interesting. That said, their tacos are very good as well, especially their tacos al pastor (topped with pineapple, which I love). Last but not least, their happy hour features a different $5 margarita special every day, including Friday, and their margaritas are HUGE. Happy hour runs from 3-7pm, so it gives working people adequate time to make it without leaving work early.

Who charges a takeout fee? I would like this place but I feel they are doing very under handed business. I go pick up my lunch and my bill of s slightly higher then expected. After looking at the menu I noticed some fine print. Written super small, on the back and at the bottom of the menu that an additional $0.35 is charged for take out. Thats so shady! Its not the amount Im opposed to, though Ive never had any restaurant charge a pickup/takeout fee. What ticked me off is that I wasnt informed. The counter didnt day anything and the information is only found in fine print on the back of the menu. I doubt Ill go back. Food was decent but that experience left a bad taste in my mouth

While on a quest to find a Mexican restaurant (because the last place closed) my wife and I stumbled onto Cinco de Mayo. We were pleasantly surprised as we were expecting another not so great Mexican place. The food was delicious but best of all the rice was not crispy/old/burnt. Which is something that strangely enough is usually pretty bad at most restaurants. The meal itself was well cooked and tasted better than we expected. While not being the best Mexican food either of us has had I can say that there would not be any issue with us going there again.

The food is excellent , prices are reasonable, and the menu has lots of options for the family. The atmosphere is fine for the type of restaurant, no one expects the ambiance of a high priced French Bistro or the vibe of a nouveau hipster joint at a Mexican restaurant. Service is fantastic, some servers might even be a bit too attentive but most are spot on. Best Mexican food in Columbia in my opinion.

The staff was friendly so I gave it two stars. But the food was just one star. It came out within minutes of ordering it. I was impressed. But when I started eating it the rice was cold. The only thing warm was the vegetables. I had Arros con pollo. I didnt even finish it cause of how bland it was. It had more vegetables that Arros or pollo. I sure wasnt wowed by this place when it came to the food.

I visited three times after they first opened and again over eight months later and things still havent improved. Food has been bland every time, and the one time I tried dining at the bar, the drinks were badly mixed - overly strong, which Im sure some people dont mind, but I personally dont care for. On the plus side, the staff is friendly and Ive never seen a crowd there.

This food was soo bland it was a joke. I asked for a small bowl of guacamole and it was literally avocado mash with garlic powder. The talapia for my fish tacos didnt even taste seasoned. The salsa tasted fresh out of the jar. But the staff was friendly, the tacos came witha double tortilla so it didnt fall apart, and their margaritas are huge. So its a good happy hour spot.

Strongly disliked this place for a few reasons. The food was flavorless, bland, and sloppy and was too pricey for the portions and atmosphere. I never got a refill bc the waiter only came to the table 3 times - food and drink orders, to bring the food and drinks, and to bring the check. Will not be going back here.
