Local tavern where you go when you want something a little more exciting than your local hole in the wall but still want a chill place to have a couple. The kind of dimly lit, wood beamed place that makes you look for the shuffleboard table. (Its by the fireplace.) Well-staffed central bar offering over 10 different housemade beers from chocolate stout to white ale and everything in between, served in their signature double mugs for a very reasonable flat rate ($4 and change). Seating is first come first serve, you may have to scope out one of the 7-10 booths from a bar stool on the opposite side of the bar for about 10 minutes before swooping in unapologetically to fill a recently vacated, still warm spot whose previous occupant hasnt even finished putting on her coat. Great for large groups. No separate checks at booths tho, so if youre in a group and want to keep a separate tab, order at the bar. The expansive menu of reasonably priced, homemade pizzas are sized for one but also make good sharers for the table. Pick one that tickles your fancy, theyre all delicious.

Nice folksy no frills bar. 2/3 of the main food options are individual ten inch thin crust pizzas, $3.50 happy hour beers and $4.50 when not. Beers are served as a pair of 8 oz glasses so you can vary the flavor and control your drinking more so than your regular pint. Growler (64 oz) $20 and $15 refilled Nice vibe. More working professionals after work and families kind of crowd. Edit 12/29/16: If you are with a family Id strongly recommend going in early afternoon than evening. It can get packed and loud for children and service gets understandably slower when crowded which happens often on evenings. Its gotten a lot more crowded in evenings than it was a year ago! Both good for the restaurant and working professionals but bad for families on a quiet night out. Id probably say if you have small children you dont want to go here later than 5 pm. It gets to be standing room only past 5:30 most nights. If you are polite and lucky you might get an complimentary shot after your bill. This is my main watering hole of choice in Columbia.

We sat outside during a warm night, so the noise level wasnt that much of an issue, and the food we received was very good. Some people had their dogs out with them playing fetch while they hung around and had a few drinks. Neat place to go. The only issue I had was I didnt realize there would be people carding me right as I walked inside so it took me a moment to find my wallet (they told me they werent going to let me in unless I could prove I was at least 21) and when I couldnt immediately find it, they started asking me to leave the premises until I could locate it. I carry medical supplies with me because of a chronic condition I have, so my wallet usually gets pushed down to the bottom of my bag. Even though I explained this to them, I wish they couldve been more patient with me. There wasnt anyone behind me, so Im not sure what the issue was. I finally found it after a minute and it was fine after that, but sheesh.

The good - Had an excellent time! Pizza was delicious. The servers were sweet and attentive. They brew their own beer and thats always a plus in my book. The bad - They dont take reservations and you seat yourself. So when the place is busy, which is most of the time, it can be very difficult to find a table. Also this is not the place to go if you want a variety of cocktails and shots. For example, the bar tender didnt have the ingredients for a cherry bomb (cherry vodka and red bull) but since they arent designed to be a fully stocked bar that wasnt a big deal. The random - The restaurant is huge into Grand Marnier. They have bottles lining every wall. If thats your drink of choice you are in luck. Overall, whenever Im in Columbia I will definitely stop in for the Stinky Rose pizza and a couple of pints of the Imperial Dog double IPA. If you looking for pizza, a brew and a good time check out Pub Dog.

Heard good things about their pizza. I visited twice, both times the place was packed and the music is too loud - as if they are trying to convince clients they are having a good time, this just makes everyone talk even loader to each other. So I left without ordering anything. The second time I visited with two small children, again inside was crowded and very loud. We checked into the outdoor seating, but this would have been difficult since I was told Id have to go inside to order and later pickup at the bar; it is not practical to leave a 10 and 6 year-old alone outside. So we left. I am amazed at how many people are content to dine at places where they can barely hear their own conversation. For my taste, food matters little if the environment is uncomfortable. I give them two stars, assuming the people that pack the place think the food and drink are at least satisfactory.

I highly recommend Pub Dog Pizza. Ive never been to their parent establishment in Baltimore, but based on the Columbia location, Id be hard pressed not to recommend it. Their specialty pizza is great. Even the combinations Im afraid to try have turned out quite tasty. Its well worth the slight premium over tired commercial pizza. The wait staff is always welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Id be skeptical of any blatant perfect review, but the food and service has kept me coming back for several months. I also hear terrific things about their specialty beers. My friends seem to always recommend the Beagle, no matter who Im with; though I cant attest to it myself. Whether youre looking for a meal, or a casual hang-out, youd be remiss not to check out the Dog Pub.

Two important things define Pub Dog for me. First, Pub Dog serves pizza and beer. Amazing pizza and their own craft beer. Thats it. If you like pizza and beer, Pub Dog is your new favorite place. Second, you may not buy only one beer--they are only served in pairs. These two realities make Pub Dog one of my favorite places to frequent. They do what they do, and they do it fabulously. Because they brew their own beers, including a rotational selection of seasonals, chances are you may occasionally try something you dont like. Nevertheless, chances are that if you try ordering one more pair, youll find something new, and delicious, and magical. Pizza and beer. Visit nao.

Pub dog is my fave columbia spot (one in bmore is pretty good too) The pizza is fairly fast and SO good, havent tried one I dont like. The bartenders are really nice girls & guys, always checking on you and getting you more drinks. Shuffleboard is fun when you can get on the table and the TVs facing both the booths & bar are really cool. Outdoor is a nice place too, especially during good weather ! And to those who say its bad bc its a 25 and under crowd....you must be super old and out of touch with how old people look because its more of a 30s and under.

I love this pub. Ive been coming here since I first moved in the area. The pizza is the best. I will not order from a delivery place anymore. Try the Mr. Green Jeans Pizza. The price for beer is fantastic. $4.50 for a pair of brews. I like the Dirty Dog, personally. The staff is awesome. They are friendly and always on point with service. Ruthie, Tanisha, and Heather are my favorites. There is a DJ at 10 PM every Friday and Saturday night. You cant beat the price and atmosphere. I recommend it to anyone. Cheers!
