We ordered a soft crab sandwich and we opted for onion rings instead of ff and recieved a measly little crab and 5 onion rings. The crab tasted like it was fried in dirt and the onion rings were grease ladden. This was all for $21. I ordered a cheese quasilla. That was ok. The waiter was nice and attentive. The other issue was the lack of cleanliness. We sat in the first room you come to once you leave the bar area. Everywhere my eye could see I saw smudges of dirt. The chairs had fingerprint smudges on every piece of white there was. The table was sticky. Maybe they should change the table top type because everytime we eat there the tables feel this way. Look at the floors. They are brown with dirt. We went there on a slow workday afternoon so it wasnt like people had come in there full of dirt and they didnt have time to clean the place. Its always like this! We called the manager to let him know that it was so dirty there that it made my throat close up. He stated that no on else ever complained about this. I told him I was doing him a favor. He said he was surprized to hear my complaint as they have a special cleaning crew to clean the place. I guess he needs a new pair of eyes to examine the place because his arent working. Maybe his cleaning crew can only do so much with white chairs and the type of table top they have to deal with. I dont know. As I said, the floors looked tacky too. Even though we have patronized this joint on several occassions we can no longer consider this place a place to bring friends or family. What a shame. The manager sounded like he thought I was from Mars or something. Kinda of arrogant, I think. Obviously other people feel the same as Ive read serveral reviews on other sites and see the same compliants. I guess the manager doesnt read.

Parking is a bit difficult, they do have a small lot back behind the building, but it fills up quickly. Entrance is awkward, there really isnt a waiting area, everyone waiting is crammed in the entrance between the hostess stand, front of the bar and tables in the area - really needs redesigned. There are lots of stairs, which is something to consider if someone in your party has mobility issues. We had the crabs, they only had smalls and mediums, but the mediums were what some places call large. They were all full and well seasoned. Also had a couple of ears of corn, it was cleaned well (no silk getting stuck in your teeth) and cooked properly. Service was good. Drinks refilled promptly, before the glass was empty. The one issue was that the kitchen apparently closes at 9:30 (thats what we were told when we asked as we left). Server never told us it would be closing, so we werent able to order dessert or additional food. We werent rushed to finish the crabs (were told they dont close until 11), but they should check in with diners and see if they want anything prior to the kitchen closing. They also bag up the remaining crabs for you to take home.

Hoping to have steamed crabs, we went to Ships Cafe, having been there several times before. The waitress was not attentive and seemed unable to assist more than one table at a time. We sat there for several minutes before being acknowledged. We finally had our drink order taken. It was then that I noticed blood on our table and my napkin. I mentioned it to the waitress. She shoved it off so nonchalantly having cut her hand on a crab shell and discussed her blood thinner. She proceeded to wipe the table and take the napkin (that my utensils were on). But, I had to ask for new utensils and place mat. I then began to wonder where else there was blood - on/in my drink or soup? I began to get nauseated. We decided to leave and I informed the hostess why. No one offered for management to be talked with...

Crabs - good. Service is horrible. This is our local place and we drive into Baltimore to avoid this place. Owner is really a jerk. Their "polices" are well known in regards to "you will pay whether the food or service was good". Took friends there on a Saturday afternoon (3 people in the bar) for steamed shrimp and beer. Was told we had to have reservations and they were booked solid but we could wait 20 minutes for a table - again, 3 people in the entire place!! This was the last straw after a series of several tries. While their crabs are pretty good (not the best) I really hate supporting a jerk and gladly take my business elsewhere. Suggest you do the same, you wont be disappointed.

This was my seventh visit to Chip Cafe and I will not be returning. The crab dip did not taste like crab at all, but instead had an overwhelming taste of cream cheese. The cream of crab soup was very, very thick and tasted bland. The salmon was overcooked and had no taste. The server never checked back to see how the food was or to see if we needed anything else for our meal. It took 25 minutes for us to get the check after requesting it!! This was, by far, the worst experience I have had while dining at Ship Cafe. As a former waitress, the service was very poor and the food was just disappointing. If you want real Maryland style seafood... GO ELSEWHERE! What a waste of money :(

I used to go more frequently than I do now and thats mostly because of the cream of crab soup. It used to be the best Ive ever had with decent chunks of crab meat and the perfect blend of flavors/consistency. I dont know what changed but its definitely not the same. Grainy texture with thin slivers of crab meat that only made the texture feel more unpleasant. The taste itself was good after I added several tablespoons of Old Bay but texture is a big part of flavor so its hard to really enjoy it. For 6$, its a bit disappointing considering I used to go almost every day just to get a bowl.

So I sat down here today infront of the bar. Minding my own business i see someone come in for an application. An employee goes to the boss and informs her that someone came in for an application and i heard the boss ask her "well are they white?" I was disgusted hearing the boss Sharon even say those words. This caught my attention and I even heard her go on talk about minorites coming in and making the restaurant bad. Saying how minorities are the reason for losing customers. Im sorry Sharon but this isnt the way to run a business, not much to hold onto with a rating of a 3.5.

I have eaten here previously and was quite satisfied, however I dont know if it was because It was Mothers Day or what. I ordered take out for myself and my family the cream of crab was cream no crab, the crab dip tasted like canned chicken salad with cheese slapped on top with stale toast, also the grilled chicken salad was dry with no dressing included. I was very disappointed with this meal. I gave it 2 stars because my grand daughter enjoyed the stuffed shrimp and my daughter said the crap wraps were ok. I dont know what my son in law thought of the crab cake.
