The hibachi food is mediocre and lacks flavor. The first time I went to Ichiban the person presenting the hibachi was very entertaining and interacted with all of the guess at the party. But for my birthday this past weekend, the person that did the hibachi was rather rude and barely interacted with my guess. He mumbled the entire time and when I asked him if he knows how to do any fun hibachi tricks he said " take your glass of water and flip it upside down and see if the water spills out..." I found that to be extremely rude and bad for business because that is essentially what you are paying for... THE SHOW! But instead he gave nothing but attitude and under-seasoned food. No matter how much I smiled and tried to be pleasant with him, it seemed to not matter because obviously he did not want to be there. I highly doubt Id go back. Hibachi was over-priced for what you get and the service was not up to par. If it werent for my great company my birthday dinner would have been ruined!

This is the worst Hibachi experience Ive ever had. We clearly were celebrating my daughters 10th birthday (as evidenced by the cake in tow) and the cook did not flip, toss, or juggle a single thing. The whole reason we selected Hibachi versus regular Asian fare was for the "entertainment" piece of the dining experience. Whats worse is that when we brought it to the attention of the owner/manager he did not even apologize. He seemed very disinterested and dismissive. About five minutes before we were about to leave, the Hibachi grill across from us had this great, dynamic cook that could juggle multiple utensils and interacted with the table telling jokes and having a blast. Wow, can we get a little consistency Mr. Ichiban owner? My daughter was crushed. Thanks for ruining her birthday lunch. WE WONT BE BACK.

To sum things up: Ichiban is good but very pricey (which I expect at most sushi restaurants). The rolls range from 5 dollars to 14 dollars. The ones that are pricier have raw fish while the cheaper ones are mainly veggie (e.g. avocado, etc.). The rolls are undoubtedly fresh. I also had the chance to try the sashimi platter which consisted of a limited (4 pieces each) assortment of raw seafood (octopus, tuna, salmon, imitation crab). What really ticked me off is them including imitation crab in the platter. How about including more tuna/salmon? It definitely seems to be a very popular place in Baton Rouge as it was quite crowded on the day I visited on Sunday for lunch. Overall, your tummy will thank you but your wallet may not be as happy.

Ichiban on Essen is definitely one of the fancier and pricier sushi restaurants in Baton Rouge. But, definitely one of the best sushi restaurants you can choose from in the city. Ive been there plenty of times on many different occasions either it birthdays or just lunch. The prices are pretty mid tier just a little higher compared to other great sushi restaurants in the area. I still recommend this restaurant though, they have great rolls and the service is always great. I highly recommend the Mango Tango Roll, its really fresh and actually one of my favorite rolls I have ever eaten. I can recommend this sushi restaurant to anyone who wants to try something new or just simply eat a good sushi dinner.

I recently dined with a party of 5 - The food was below average for both dinners and sushi, one so called "crab" entree was "krab" with a "K" but priced as if it were real crab (It was disgusting & not edible!) and it came with a side of a hair on the plate! Note:The menu described the entree as being crab! The service was terrible! One appetizer showed up during dinner another one didnt show up at all. Our entrees ALL came out at different times (2-10 min between meals being served) and were not worth waiting for. The waiter apologized, but made a joke, the manager was just plain rude and didnt seem to care at all! "Ichiban is icky", dont waste your money or time!

The food was okay, but I had a very awkward encounter with my hibachi chef. When it was time to serve the rice and vegetables, the chef did the usual equal distribution amongst the table. Then, when it was time to divvy up the leftovers, the chef conveniently always ran out just before he got to me (one of the three black guests at the table). Since me and the two other black guests were seated side by side, it was pretty clear what was going on. Even the other white guests seated with us noticed this blatant avoidance, which made for a very awkward dining experience. I know (well, hope) this chef doesnt represent the entire restaurant, but I dont think I will be back.

Use to be a great place to go, but not since the expansion. They seem to be more interested in getting as many ppl in and out as they can rather than providing good food or service. Also, the manager is never available unless you happen to mention that you dont like something. Hell definitely come out to explain that they will not remove something off your check b.c thats their policy. So, no matter how poorly executed the food is, you have to pay for it. Ive been to more expensive restaurants that are more than willing to take something off your bill if you dont like it, b/c they know keeping your business is more important than 10 bucks.

This was by far the worst experience we have ever had. We went in for lunch today on Saturday. We waited 30 minutes to be seated. The owner kept telling us it would be 5 more minutes 3 times. He and the girl who seats us were arguing. We finally sat and ordered and they made us wait 10 more minutes to fill the table. Then it toon those 2 people 10 more minutes to place their order. My son had water drop on him from one of the AC vents and we told them and they were going to fix it but they never did. Had to ask for refills several times. The food was good, but you should not take 1 and a 1/2 hours for lunch. Bad experience for the first time!!!

Ive been there a number of times, my best friend says its in her top Sushi picks. She has had me go there several times and honestly over the experiences I have found that the food quality is equivalent to the experience. I love the management there, family owned, and from what I can tell the employees enjoy the work relationships with them as well. Also the new renovations really create an atmosphere conducive to a relaxed evening out over dinner and drinks. I recently photographed and created a virtual tour of their restaurant for Google, and it was a pleasure to work with them as well..

Best place for sushi and a wonderful service everyone there works together as a team. And serves you quickly. And the sushi is amazing and very fresh. When you go there you have to try their famous LSU roll.I promise if you love fresh sushi the LSU roll is the way to go..Me and My mother went together one time (the picture is what we ate that night before and after pics.We had to take the rest home lol) and kept going back for more. Honestly I cant wait to go back to Louisiana to visit my mom again but to also go back to Ichiban again lol
