What can I say? This was not only the best Indian food Ive eaten in Louisville but its also easily one of the best culinary experiences in a long time!! I went there for the Saturday lunch buffet and every single dish was excellent! Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious, the goat curry was yummy, the chicken samosas were scrumptious, the bread (naan and batura) was great, tandoori chicken was tasty and tender, the vegetarian curries were all superb and all the desserts were delectable (mango pudding, rice pudding, ras malai, kala jamun and vanilla ice cream)...I must have gained 5 pounds after that meal but it was definitely worth it. The staff were friendly and attentive... I moved to the Louisville area almost 3 months ago and have been on the lookout for good Indian food. I went to Kashmir a few weeks ago and that was the worst Indian dining experience of my life (awful food and poor service!!) - I posted my review on Google (look for sparky) and Yelp. I will avoid that place like the plague!! Im curious to try the other places like Sitar and Little India Cafe but I have to admit - this gastronomic experience is going to be hard to top. No matter what, Ill certainly be back for more...

I have been to this restaurant so many times ordering take out that they gave me several coupons which I used the 20% off for take out many times. A friend and I dined in recently and I also placed an order to go. Upon paying I used a coupon for dine in only to get one entree free, and I used a 20% coupon for the take out order, I was told they would not honor the take out coupon! How stingy, cheap and tacky on their part! That was false advertisement on their part! If I had left the restaurant and returned and ordered to go and used the coupon, they would have honored it(or would they have?), my dining inside should have made no difference, they should have honored the coupon, because I specifically oreded and entree to go! Anyway, if a business gives coupons they should honor them, why give them if youre not going to honor them? Simple solution....STOP GIVING COUPONS TO CUSTOMERS YOU HAVE NO INTENTION IN HONORING!!!!! Geez, you cheap skates! Some of the older men who work there are rude....I dont think they like women too much. I wont be making any return visits, as for all of the coupons Ive gotten from them, based on all of the business Ive given them...theyll be going in the trash!

Shalimar is my go-to restaurant. If Im hungry and in the area, thats where Im going. . I had never tried Indian food before and was a little hesitant about it but the staff happily explained the dishes and made suggestions to what would suit my palate. I was not disappointed. Indeed, its been 5 years since that first visit and I just keep coming back. I have visited Indian restaurants in Louisville as well as a few in bigger cities when I travel (such as Chicago and St.Louis). Whats interesting is I always seem to find them lacking when comparing them to Shalimar. I must admit, I do not have a high tolerance for spicy food however, the food is far from bland and always flavorful. My partner enjoys the more traditional level of spice and he has never been disappointed in the level of heat or taste. I find the buffet a great way to sample Indian fare if you have not tried it before. And if you are a fan, by all means come in during lunch time and really enjoy! My favorites are the chicken tiki masala, tandori chicken, and chicken korma. The naan is excellent. You couldnt ask for a better staff. They are warm and welcoming to all who visit..

All in one experience. From cleanliness, service to excellent food. Saag (Palak Paneer) is one dish that I have tried at many Indian Restaurants. This one hits the spot. Authentic flavors bursting in my pallet brings back childhood memories what real Indian food used to taste like. Whatever you do, order Lamb Kabobs - perfect blend of spices cooked perfect for flavor and aroma. Thier Tandoori chicken entree on low carb menu has satisfied me over and over again. My favorite bread is Aloo Paratha (Stuffed Potato) bread. It spices are perfectly balanced and provides satisfaction with every bite. I have visited Shalimar over dozen times in past 2 years as business traveller. Their food quality has not faultered once for Dinner. Overall, Friendly staff that is attentive and ready to take you on the tour with Flavors of North Indian specialty cooking. Clean restaurant and restrooms. Thank you management and staff for keeping food quality to highest standard and constant friendly service. The best Indian Restaurent in town!

Server was so rude we never actually got to try the food during our visit. We got a livingsocial deal for this restaurant. Not knowing the hours we went midday which we then learned they close during the afternoon until dinner. The host asked us to come in and sit anyway. Then began badgering us to order (We were here total less than 5 minute). Finally after asking us to order more than 10 times in less than 3 minutes. I told him we would not be dining. I didnt understand why he asked us to come in if he was in that much of a hurry. They had rushed out drinks so we had to pay for those but I was not going to be rushed through a meal and I debated even paying for the drinks. I felt tricked into coming in so I could be charged for something. With another livingsocial deal we tried using on an earlier occasion they did not honor it even though we followed all the fine print. This was our tempt to give them a second chance. I will not never go here again and I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I have been to hundreds of Indian restaurant throughout US. The food was alright but not the best i had. Now lets come to reason why i decided to write this review, we arrived today on Sunday 5/7/2017, at 2.10 pm. The staff member said we will be closing soon. My Indian friend said " its okay they will wait on us ." When we start eating everyone started to stare on us, seems like they are mad we came here, while we were still eating they starting to take buffet food away. at 2.30pm while we are still eating, the waiter came to us said " can you hurry up because we are closing ". WTH? This is by far worst customer service i have ever experienced, i will never ever go their again, and also suggest people to stay away from this place. We paid money for food we did not even enjoy it. Why not they tell us from start, we are close please dont come in. We just let out food, and beer. Such a waste of money and time.

I know that it always seems like an urban legend when you read what I am about to post, but I promise I am no making this up and i will never eat here again! Me and a group of co-workers have always enjoyed going to Shalimar for the lunch buffet. We usually go about once a month with no complaints and walk out full and with our Indian fix. Today we walked in, perfect setting, not very crowded and headed up to the buffet line. While in line my co-worker yelped out and got our attention. While going through the Vegetable Pakoras a roach (seriously a roach, no lie, no exaggeration) came out of the food. We got the attendants that stand behind the register, told them quietly about their insect issue, placed our plated on said counter and walked out.... We will never eat there again!
