This is gonna be a very bipolar review, but I must emphasize that I do like this place and the food is amazing. I have been going to T&C for my entire 22 year long life. I still remember when youd sit in the lobby and inhale a packs worth of cigarette smoke. Its an interesting feeling when you can feel a tumor forming in your chest. This was well worth it though when you passed through that threshold into diner food heaven. I remember eating enough biscuits and gravy to kill a small animal, and always feeling joyously miserable afterwards. Everything I have ever eaten here was a masterpiece made by some ex-convict, that really knows how to sling hash. My biggest complaint is the fact that state laws no longer allow for smoking in restaurants. I have never been a smoker, and will never be a smoker, so Im not coming from that stand point. My complaint, is no one realized the smog like level of smoke that used to entrap you in a 1920s aura, was masking the worst case of BO ever. The restaurant now smells like the inside of a church basketball league locker room. Imagine your dad had all of his friends over, and they did hot yoga for six and a half hours, and that barely begins to describe the ball sweat aroma that infiltrates your nose canal. While my review has taking a turn for the south, I want to re-emphasize the fact that this place has delicious food, and a friendly hometown staff.

Not a good experience. They are open until 9pm and stop service at 8:55. They should really stop service at 8:30 so they can be out by 9pm The waitress wanted to know what we wanted to order. Gave her our order which was 2 ribeyes and a filet dinner. Our salads were brought out and this 50 year old guy in a red shirt was running around and snatching plates as soon as they were empty. Our Steaks were out in 10 minutes. At this point the guy in the red shirt was standing by the front door staring at us and shaking his head. We called the waitress to the table and told her we were feeling rushed and unwelcomed and what the 50 guy was doing. She told us not to worry he was only a bus boy. My friend is a personal director and expressed that the bus person represents the business and its not good business practice. She said that she would have him talked to and asked how we wanted our check handled. I can tell you from 8:55 to 9:31 we had our order taken, served a salad and dinner and paid at the counter and was walking out the door. Other friends had told me how great this place was and the food was good. This was my first and last time to come here. We were rushed and made to feel unwelcome. They should have just told us the kitched was closed and we would have found someplace else to eat.

Were so preoccupied with eating food thats cooked "like Mom used to make," but if you grew up anywhere from the 50s to today, chances are what Mom used to make came from a can, a freezer, or out of a microwave. So in that respect, the green beans I ate at Town & Country were indeed like Mom used to make - soft, flavorless, and in no way fresh. I ordered the chicken fried steak because it was the first thing listed on the menu and they looked like they were proud of it. Poorly fried, the crust didnt provide much texture, and thats even before the thick sludge of country gravy was plopped on top of it. The home fries were unique - slices of potatoes cooked in the style of hashbrowns. Also in the style of many hashbrowns, the interior was undercooked, and the entirety was underseasoned. If there is one saving grace to Town and Country, its the steaks. I can only speak to mine - which was fork tender - but its easy to see how so many other reviewers speak well of that cast iron wood-fired grill you can see them working from the outside of the building.

Upon entry, the overwhelming aroma of stale cigarette smoke wafts to your nose while the antiquated upholstery give presence to the thought that it must have been cleaned as recently as 1957. The food was precisely what one would expect from such an establishment including the hash browns, crisp on the outside while maintaining a cool, oily center. The scrambled eggs may have been prepped by the same chef, because they had the same characteristics. The omelette on the other hand, was a true to form exquisite combination of over cooked egg and undercooked fillings...including the rather poorly prepared clump of hair, which was apparently gratis because it wasnt listed as an ingredient on the menu. The wait staff was kind enough, but reserved enough homlieness to suit the deco of this solid ½ star eatery.

Worst breakfast ever....just moved into town...staff was rude. Potatoes where cooked horrible. Coffee sucked...it was like drinking water with a tint of flavor, provided by the sugar and cream that I put in. They made an excuse for everything. Our waitress Christy, was the rudest person ever. If I could, they would get 0 stars. DO NOT GO HERE. they tossed the money when we where paying. The manager is the one that tossed money back. Oh and our dogs wont touch the food that came from there. This is a sad excuse for a local restaurant. I am new to althea area and was hoping to support the small business but do to what has happened in will inform EVERYONE about this horrible restaurant.

The Food was excellent. It was the best Prime Rib Ive had in years in Wichita KS. It was a huge piece and a thick slice, done to my specifications which was medium rare and very flavorful, better then Scotch & Sirloin and less expensive.. My Husband had T-Bone steak, he was just as pleased. We thought the atmosphere was pleasant. Its an Old fashioned looking place but clean and very comfortable, seemed like all the guests were happy and friendly as well. Our waitress was helpful and friendly. We plan on going back often. We also plan on trying breakfast there.

As soon as you walk into this place you are hit with a putrid stench that only gets worse the further inside you go. The cleanliness was almost non existant, not sure the staff ever do more than wipe a few crumbs on the floor. Food was almost inedible and came from a filthy kitchen. They boast how everything is home made yet my salad was from a bag and was rotten. Avoid this place if food poisioning is a road you do not wish to navigate.

The food was ok, I especially liked the green beans. Ordered the ribeye and it was just alright, nothing to write home about. The salad was awful. Just lettuce and a few grated carrots. We sat in a booth and this booth was FILTHY. It had ALL kinds of food and crumbs in the cracks of the seating. Also old food splattered on the sides of the booth and the wall next to our booth. Really turned my stomach and I will not be back.

We go here a lot for lunch on Saturday afternoons. Casual. Not at all fancy. Good good and cheap. Mesquite grill is good. This is what my Dad would have called a "Greasy spoon" place. He would have hated it. My grandfather would have loved it. Definitely not for everybody. Kind of red kneck in a very gentle way. The waitresses are experienced and often call you "Hon" and such. We like it for casual eating.
