Great food and a warm family atmosphere. The owner acts like shes known you all her life, and the rest of the staff is very nice as well. The quality of food is very high for the price tag. We commonly order dumplings, sesame chicken, broccoli beef, fried rice, white rice, crab rangoon. Its all really good food. They dont have a spring roll or the teriyaki chicken on a stick. Ive had dine in, pick up, and delivery. All three worked out really well. Ive taken large parties there, and theyve accommodated pretty well. The decor needs a little maintenance, and the front of the shop doesnt look like much, but thats not a big deal.

Called in my order at 8:19pm. Spoke with a man who could speak clear English, he told me 45 minutes. I called back at 9:19 and spoke to a woman who could barely speak English and told me my order was on the way without asking my phone number or anything then said a bunch of inaudible stuff then said thank you and hung up. Its now been an hour and a half and still no food and now they wont answer the phone.... because theyve closed. Worst Chinese restaurant Ive ever encountered I would have atleast been happy with mediocre food that arrived on time but this is ridiculous. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!!!

I regularly order for delivery. The drivers are courteous and fast. Always within (usually sooner) than ETA when order is placed. The only time I have had a problem with an order, I called back and she corrected it with no hesitation, and the correction was delivered in less than half an hour. They also have a good memory with their customers. Even after not ordering for a few months, when I called back to place another order, she picked up on my address/phone number right away and asked if I wanted the next item I was going to order before I had a chance to mention it!!

Ive eaten here many times, but the best thing Ive enjoyed so far was the brisket platter. The brisket was tender and delicious. The baked beans had a great flavor, too. I wouldnt order the sweet potato fries again. But I will definitely order the brisket and beans again. The things like chicken fried steak or chicken are big and beautiful, but too much salt in the batter. The servers are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is always fun. There is always plenty of whatever you order and I always take enough home for another meal.

I met a friend at Hunam one night, having barely been aware of its existence before, and it has been my favorite Chinese restaurant since. Best tasting food and excellent service. Get hot tea, its fun to drink throughout the meal. Food is presented very conveniently. About them being understaffed, I have never waited longer than average for a meal. If they are considered understaffed, hope they do not change this. Expansion leads to streamlining. Efficiency is not ALWAYS best.

This is literally the BEST place in a 50 mile area for Chinese food. My family and I have been dining at this restaurant for about 6+ years and we have never had a bad experience. The food is superb and the owners/hosts are super nice. I have tried restaurants in Manhattan and Lawrence, but each one fails in comparison to Hunam Chinese Restaurant. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for excellent Chinese food.

Spent over $50 on food here yesterday for dinner and they wouldnt deliver where we live and they forgot 2 boxes of rice. My husband had to drive back to the restaurant and the lady argued with him about it. We ordered 3 large dishes all should have came with rice and she even asked if we wanted fried or stemmed, only ended up with 1 box of rice. Horrible food and experience. Not recommended.

I hate how low staffed they are (2-3 people working as cook, servers, and delivery). Generally great food, but 40 min wait for carry out puts a bad taste in my mouth. The owner is such a sweet lady and makes you feel at home. Get these wait times lower and Id highly recommend this restaurant. Otherwise, if youre willing to wait a long time for good Chinese food, then this place isnt so bad.

For the price, the portions were small. They used medium delivery boxes where most places would use the large ones. My curry chicken was incredibly watery and bland, with no spice at all. The lo mein noodles were also watery and soggy- I dont think they fried them. Good egg rolls and fried rice, though. But Im sorry, I cannot recommend this place.

Decent food for the price. They forgot our extra rice we ordered( this was delivery) and they burnt the rice we had. The cungpow chicken was chewy too. The egg rolls really pretty good and their wontons were good as well. I think if the rice wasnt burnt and got what we ordered would give 4 stars. So far the best Chinese food in Topeka.

We have been going for years. We have moved from Kansas but each time we are back Hunan is our scheduled stop. Crab Rangoon, wontons, MooGoo Gai Pan and King Pao shrimp are our favorites. We also love the owner she is so welcoming and remembers us when we come back.

One of the better Chinese restaurants in town. Not a buffet but the food is well prepared. Not bad prices if you stick to the lunch or dinner specials. Excellent service. The owner is very friendly and makes sure you are being taken care of properly.
