TL;DR at the bottom. Read on for full review. The staff was friendly, and the place looked very clean. For the first time in Bellevue when I walked into a chinese place there was a lot of people there, which was a good sign. I was worried the kitchen might be backed up, but I was promised my food in 15 minutes and got it right at 15 on the dot, so good on them. I ordered chicken and vegetables and 2 crab rangoons, because each meal comes with 2 crab rangoons, which i thought was nice. The price of the rangoons is also pretty tough to beat. The crab rangoons were of good size, but they were only just alright. I ordered the Chicken and Vegetables to go. It was presented to me ready and wrapped up in a bag so I could just walk out with it. However, when I arrived home, It didnt come with a utencil, perhaps in error, or napkins. I suppose they thought wherever I was going I would be able to get those there, so I was lucky this time. This is also one of the rare joints that doest serve it in a styrofoam container. I got the steamed rice in a small paper fold up box and the entree in a plastic container. Im not going to complain because I hate styrofoam so I made due and used the lid of the plastic container for a plate (I could have gotten a plate, but one of the big reasons I get my food instead of preparing it is so I dont dirty dishes) Upon opening the the container, I see that the vegetables are diced carrots and celery mostly, some water chestnuts. Kind of bummed no baby corn, broccoli, peppers, snap peas, bamboo... The first bite was surprising. I ordered the chicken and veg partly because i dont like how sweet sesame chicken or sweet and sour can be, or how spicy things like generals chicken, or many pork dishes can also get to. This entree was not marked as spicy, but it definitly has a kick to it--to a point where I have to eat slowly and drink some water or it gets uncomfortably spicy. The sauce does have that good savory flavor when its not too heat-intense. 2 stars for excellent service, somewhat reasonable pricing, speedy service, and food that is still better than most of the chinese food in Bellevue. I may try again, but well see. Ill definitly tell them I dont want it spicy next time. TL;DR -- For the price and portions, for the ambience and the staff, Golden Bowl is a good, young upstart. My only complaint was my food (a little) too spicy. However this is the best chance for chinese food youll have yet in the Bellevue area. My two star review is simply from my own experience, and may change if I go back. I highly recommend you try for yourself, tho.

I was very excited to tey out this place but never got a chance to. I ordered delivery and they called and said that no one answered the door. I asked if they was certain they was at the right place because no one had knocked. My door was open, the house is small, there was no tv on. I was putting my son to sleep in the bedroom so maybe thays why i didnt hear. I went outside after thwy had called and called back to ask when he would be here. The reaponse was, " I dont kmow when ever he is done with the other delieveries." Well sir your telling me your going ro deliver old food thats been sitting in the car a hour or however long from now? I guesa it was my fault since i didnt answer the door. I dont understand why the man called after he had left. It really pissed me off because i had been waiting for my food and then the lack of good customer service let alone professionalism made me cancel my order. And now im sitting hwrw hungry!:( lol very upset!

I really liked this place at first, had the yellow curry chicken and crab rangoon and egg roll. Crab rangoon was ok the first time, but second time it didnt taste quite right. The sweet and sour sauce is very thin, both times, I prefer a thicker sauce...but it is what is and I am fine with that. My biggest concern was the first time I went there the waiter went on and on about how their curry sauce was homemade, and I really appreciated that. The second time I went there, I mentioned how much I liked it the first time I had it and loved the homemade curry sauce and the waiter was like..."It comes pre-made...it isnt homemade." I thought he was joking but he wasnt. Now I dont have access to the kitchen to know for sure or not, but we have not been back since. I might give it another go sometime soon though and see if maybe it was just an off night the second time around. Staff is friendly and the interior is kept clean and cozy.

The fact that this place was voted Bellevues favorite Asian restaurant says more about Bellevue than about the restaurant, I think. Though it was a busy Saturday evening, service was pretty quick. I like how they have sweet & sour sauce on the table as well as this incredibly spicy sauce from Volcanic Peppers just down the road. The fried rice, while not the best Ive ever had was good. However, were not planning to return. The food was generally mediocre, except for the crab rangoon, which tasted somehow wrong. The menus were sticky and vague -- e.g., what IS firecracker chicken? The table was also sticky-- the entire table, not just a few spots. There was also dust and dead bug parts on the windowsill next to me, and the pepper shaker had some unknown substance caked on it. Yuck.

Im a little mixed about this place. The food is excent and so is the service. Problem is the crab rangoons are a hit or miss thing. Sometimes they are fine, other they taste like they were cooked in pure sesame seed oil. Price is a bit of a problem too. For what you get, its expensive. Easily one of the more expensive places to go by weight. Their family size costs around $10 and is about single serving size found at most places. I do like their smaller size though for the days I want something, just not a lot of it. They do cost less than say panda house downtown, but you also get a lot more at pandahouse and it tates slightly better too. I do highly recommend a visit. If you avoid the occasional bad rangoon, and dont mind the steep price, it is one of the better places you can go to.

I have ordered General Tsos Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice and Pepper Chicken from this restaurant and I was very happy with all three of them, but especially the Generals Chicken. I have been searching for years for a high quality Chinese restaurant, and I have finally found it. The chef used to work over at The House of Hunan and he has perfected his recipes over the last thirty years. Back in the early 90s I used to eat at Hunan Express, on Leavenworth, and House of Hunan, on Center St., and they were some of the best experiences I ever had at Chinese restaurants. Eating at the Golden Bowl is truly a pleasure and it takes me back to those times in my life that I thought were gone forever. Yes, it really is that hard to find high quality Chinese food...really, sadly enough.
