The Golden Delight Bakery is possibly the best bakery ever ever. The name alone speaks to exactly what the place is and upon entering youre greeted by smells that remind you of love and happiness. The magic is located inside a small house that sits about a mile off the main road. Seriously, its too bad we cant take a picture of smells. Our purchases today included some delicious crescent rolls, a "half-moon" - effectively a turnover, and a caramel pecan roll that was simply amazing! The selection of pies, donuts and other pastries isnt overwhelming, but this is serious quality. The cookies are also particularly good with the oatmeal chocolate chip here, being the only ones that have ever rivaled my moms! Everything is made just behind the swinging doors and coming out throughout the day. Upstairs lives a lovely gift shop that contains an eclectic mix of items including baby dolls, rocking chairs, Amish themed books and Grandfather clocks. Plenty to keep you busy before taking your delicious baked good back home. Were discovered the place well be coming for all our delicious bakery needs. Visit it once and itll be an instant classic.. This is one of a growing number of spots well be taking our family and telling friends about. Not even, well worth trying, its a must try.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the treatment we got today from the Golden Delight bakery. Yesterday I ordered some kolaches for an ethnic supper tonight , since I am unable to cook any more. I had to call twice yesterday before I finally got a response. I gave him my order and told him my husband would pick up the order in the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday. When he went to pick up the kolaches they didnt have them. The guy who took the order didnt even tell them! It was a wasted trip which they didnt even offer to give him something to help compensate for the wasted trip. On top of that we couldnt go to the supper, because we had nothing to contribute for the supper.

We travel from Des Moines to Kalona. Just to get a donut. When you get to the bakery, it smells like it was freshly made. Which it is. The donuts are so good! I have never tried a better donut! The best part is you can sit down and enjoy it with your family. And I learned the hard of taking a picture. The Amish do not like you taking pictures.

The Amish at the golden delight Bakery know how to turn out the best sweet rolls and homemade bread! This is well worth a stop. You can even pause and have a donut in a cup of coffee there.
