Visited: 9/9/09. The service was unfriendly, the dining room wasnt clean, table cloth soiled, food wayyyyy overpriced (!!!) and nothing was homemade as their slogan says (the mashed potatoes were even instant). The food was just somewhat ok, we got the beef and noodles and greenbeans (14.00 for lunch) and chicken salad (8.00) and mashed potatoes with canned gravy for the baby. The greenbeans had a stalk in it about 3 inches long with branches. The beef and noodles tasted like something out of a can (dinty moore is better and far cheaper), not hot and the meat was fatty, the chicken salad was decent but it came as a blob on my plate with a few packets of crackers on the side and I had to ask for bread. Both came with something they called coleslaw, when the waitress put it in front of me I couldnt hold back and said "it looks like its already been eaten" its finely (finely!) chopped cabbage and seasoned with something that is not remotely close to slaw dressing or mayo or whatever is normally in it. We took one bite and I could barely swollow it it was so gross. The apple butter was ok, to sweet (almost like apple syrup) not like apple butter Ive made or even bought from smuckers and the biscuits were hot but tough. All in all, I would never eat here again and I would warn anyone I know not to as well. Should have gone to subway down the street and saved about 20.00. I have eaten at many places all over the US, chain resturants and mom-and-pop type places, and this is probably the worst meal I have had thus far.

I was so excited to try their Sassafras tea, as my family used to make REAL sassafras tea from a tree in our own yard. I wasnt too impressed by the tea. It was weak, and unsweetened. Ive found that sweetening sassafras tea actually brings about a better, stronger flavor. I was also excited to try their apple butter and fried biscuits. I will say that I was pretty disappointed in this place for the most part. My husband loved their fried biscuits, but to me, they tasted like deep friend canned biscuit dough. I was also not too impressed with their apple butter. It reminded me more of overly sweetened cinnamon applesauce...even had the same consistency as applesauce. I remember apple butter being more creamy. It still tasted good, though. I ordered their friend chicken dinner ($17.95...yowza). I will say that it was friend to perfection, and had a great crunch, but no flavor. I ended up dipping it into the apple butter, which taste pretty good, actually. The mashed potatoes were decent, as was their corn. Our waitress wasnt too extroverted, but she was kind enough to ask the lady to drop fresh biscuits in the fryer for us. When we come back to Nashville, IN (this was our first trip there ever), we probably wont be stopping back in this place again unless were there for more than a few days.

My family and I were extraordinarily disappointed. The food is mediocre at best. Every single person in my family got something different, and every single one of us was disappointed. Service was awful. Its not that the staff was rude, its just that no one from the staff was to be found. There was ONE other family in the place besides mine and we only saw our waitress about 3 times; once to get our order, once to drop off the food, and once to drop off the check. She didnt refill our drinks, didnt check on us, nothing. On top of hardly seeing our waitress, food took almost 2 HOURS to get to us. Again, there was only one other family eating there at the time, so its not like they were slammed. When we were leaving the restaurant, we saw a good majority of the staff sitting out back having a group smoke break. No wonder we never saw our waitress and our food took well over an hour to get to us, it was because their staff believes smoking pow-wows are better than actually taking care of the few customers they have! I actually had to apologize to my family because I was the one who chose the restaurant and I was so embarrassed I chose such an awful spot. I would not recommend this place what so ever!

For starters, my mother and I have not been in for about 12 years so we decided to stop in while we were in town. We waited for just a couple of minutes before we were greeted by a very sweet young girl, we decided to try a couple of Manhattans & some of their wonderful fried biscuits, she was very attentive to our needs, but after over 45 mins.... and we still had no lunch. I asked the young girl to speak with a manager, she said she would grab someone named Kyle for me.... but Kyle never came. Our food finally came... ice cold& tasted stale. The server apologized sincerely, still no manager? We decided to pay and leave. While down in the general store there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from upstairs, because I am a law officer I am very aware... very aware. After that we decided to leave. We turned the corner and headed down the sidewalk, and I couldnt believe my eyes, a woman with long hair pulled back in a baseball cap who looked like an employee was taking what looked like marijuana from a young boy... so after that I contacted the Nashville police department & having this establishment investigated, I am appalled, not at all what I remembered. Very disturbing

Returning to Lousville from my cousins wedding in Indianapolis today, my sister and I decided to visit The Nashville House Restaurant, a place I remember from excursions to Brown County with my family as a child. I could just smell those fresh hot fried biscuits in my mind....... HOW is this place still in business? The biscuits and apple butter were good, but homemade rolls served with cheap margarine? Only a few "dinner" options are available, ham, fried chicken, "roast beef" ribs with 2 sides. Just awful, instant watery mashed potatoes, either instant gelatinous powerded gravy mix or just heated from a can, canned green beans with a few bits of ham-(served lukewarm). We had the roast beef and ribs. I cannot even compare the horrible stringy roast beef to the worst ever served in a school cafeteria. My request to NOT sauce the ribs was met with the information that the owner will not allow the ribs to be served without sauce, but she would bring them "lightly" sauced. My plate arrived swimming in a disgusting overly sweet goo. Each dinner with no drinks cost about $25.00. No fried biscuit is worth a visit there even for nostalgia. Stay Away!

Overpriced bland food. 20 dollars for a. Patty melt meal is ridiculous! Fried biscuits were cold and didnt taste fresh. Patty Melt was bland and the steak fries were mushy. I never like steak fries anyway because they dont seem as crisp and as tasteful as regular fries. They unfortunately dont serve regular fries-if I had known that I wouldnt ate there to begin with. Waitress said the salad comes out of a bag, like you buy premade from a grocery store. For a restaurant I would of expected better- thats just being lazy. Cole slow was horrible!!!! Never have I tasted Cole slow like this!! I traded it back in for the bag salad. The Cole slow was so bad it made the bagged salad taste divine!! They didnt even have sweet tea! The drink glasses are so small that you need them refilled about 3 or 4 times just to give you a regular size glass! I did order a second drink of hot sassafras tea with honey. That was the best part of the meal! I will come back to drink the sassafras tea but wont ever order food from this bland restaurant! It has gone down hill over the years! What a shame! Dont waste your money! Too many other choices to eat at in Nashville!
