We have been regular customers at El Salto for over a year now, it was the first restaurant we tried in Munster after moving to Indiana. The Food is consistently good and all of the staff have been friendly and welcoming, every time that we go. We have seen some posts about Daniel the bartender being racist, which we find utterly ridiculous hes very friendly and in the past year weve gotten to know him quite well, he is a single man that is in the dating scene and mainly dates African Americans! And to the fact that the place is dirty, its a high volume restaurant, which they are constantly wiping down tables tops and washing glasses right in front of you. I Ordered the 3 combination meal a taco burrito and flautas i was served 1 flour taco which was soggy from the chicken juice and not an authentic taco at all i make better and the flauta was also soggy from the chicken juice and the "burrito" was another flour taco just rolled like a burrito. My boyfriend took 2 bites of his meal and asked for a box just to take outside and throw away. We both were very disappointed been wanting to go there for some time now and after we wished we never tryed it out. Oh yeah we also got our daughter a quesadilla and that was served a mini flour tortilla and a huge chunk of cheese barley melted just awful she did enjoy the rice and beans though.

Im from out of town and wanted to stop by for a beer and a taste of Mexican food. I started by getting my beer at the bar. Got sat within 5-10 minutes of putting my name down. Guys with me that didnt get their beer at the bar waited for about 10 minutes for their drinks to come, meanwhile finishing up two baskets of chips. After getting our drinks it took another 30-45 minutes til the food came. My order was over cooked and burnt. After looking at my plate and trying it, took awhile for the anyone to come around. In the end they took the my order off my bill. Maybe Ill try it again on a different night. -Chef Tang

On the door it says traditional so when I walked in I was expecting a great experience but when we ordered and I got my food I was like oh my God this is like frozen food and the salsa was disgusting someone doesnt know what theyre doing in the kitchen which I had a job there. Maybe Im just a hard customer to please but if it says on the door its traditional I would think youll be like homemade. My waitress was serving about 7 tables and still was able to make me feel like I was wanted but I asked for extra things and give them tips on their food.

Service is great! This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in this area. The food is good and reasonably priced. And they have more than just your typical tacos and burritos. My personal favorite is the chefs platter, which is grilled shrimp, chicken, bacon, onions, mushrooms and green peppers on a bed of Mexican rice. The whole dish is topped with melted cheese, chihuahua I think. Maravilloso!

Its got a great mix of customers, and its nice seeing a more accurate cross section of the area. However, this place gets a strange and not always welcoming vibe sometimes. The food is good but you dont go to Party Central for the fine dining experience. One of the more social restaurants in the area especially near the bar, which is probably too small.

El Saltos used to be really really good and their prices were really good too. Lately their prices have gone up, you get less food for the cost going up and the quality has gone down quite a bit. The chips and salsa... the chips used to be warm and the salsa used to be fresh. Not anymore! Get yourselves back together!

Love love this place!! Get the 46 oz Corona or 46 oz Cadillac margarita, you wont be disappointed. Call for the monthly/weekly specials. Never had a wait longer than 5mins for a seat no matter the time. Food mexican midwest, so if you want it spicy ask. Mario is the hardest working staff in there!!

The El Salto on calumet ave. Is a 5 star experience. Food , Drinks and Service awesome. The El Sato in portage is a 2 star food and drinks.,Food to salty, drinks are weak and margarita ars too sweet and weak in alchol. Service is 4 star for portage.

Quality of food and service have decreased recently. Otherwise, I would have given it a 4 star. Cleanliness of the restaurant suffers and it could be because they are understaffed. This used to be our weekly night out place, but not anymore.

Worst restaurant EVER!!! Service was mediocre, food was blah, & price was way more than the experience was worth. Save your money, drive to East Chicago (Casablanca) or St John (La Quesadilla), & enjoy real exceptional Mexican cuisine.

And the prices are fair. We have eaten there a few dozen times, and have had only one below average experience. Overall, it is a nice place to eat and drink. We will continue to eat there from time to time.

Go to dinner restaurant. Great food and friendly staff. Everything is always quickly ready and out but you dont feel rushed to leave because there is plenty of seating. Ive never had to wait for a table.
