I only came here because I was attending a training seminar at this end of Evansville and we broke for lunch. Best decision I made today! I ordered the lunch sushi combination for just over $15 and was presented with a tasy bowl of miso, a generous salad with a delicious house dressing, and a diverse and generous selection of various cuts of nigiri and a small six-piece roll. I appreciated the fact that the server asked if there were any items I would like to avoid and I gratefully declined and said that I liked it all which is very nearly true. I have a track record of disliking cooked egg sushi. I was understandably surprised when my plate came with a large piece of cooked egg sushi! This actually turned out to be the most pleasant surprise of the entire meal; I found it very tasty with a subtle sweet ginger flavor. Among the other pieces were octopus, yellowtail, tuna, and, my favorite, mackerel. This place has it all: value, quality, technique, atmosphere, and service. Make the drive. If Im in the area again, I certainly will.

I walked in and I was amazed! The atmosphere was amazing! I am a huge sushi lover and I always go for 2 things, the Quality of the roll ( of course) and how good the wasbi taste. This place had it all and so much more! Sushi was delicious and the rolls were made with so much love from the Lady and man who you could twll were seasoned veterns in their skill. This is my top place for sushi in the tri state for atmosphere and sushi grade. This place might have better sushi than most places in Miami ( where I lived)... Sushi is GREAT in the tri state and I encourage anyone and everyone to check this place out

Absolutely superb! I only come to Evansiville about once a month for work and always make a point to stop here. Ive dined here three times, and every single time Ive walked out beyond satisfied. The menu options are wide without being overwhelming, the staff is some of the friendliest staff Ive met, the atmosphere is perfect for casual diners and dates alike, and the food leaves me speechless. So perfectly filling without feeling bloated, fantastic prices, and cooked to perfection! Iwataya, you have a lifelong patron!

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! First, we are out of town for Thanksgiving, and we decided to go there because I am a sushi FREAK! SO, we went to Habchi. THE COOK IS SUPER NICE AND FRIENDLY! When you walk in, you get to cross the small creek full of fish. When you get past that, there are ACTUAL Sushi bars with pillows to sit on and small tables to eat on. You get to get a full experience of Sushi and Japenese! The prices are a little expensive, but it is so worth it.

By far the most authentic Japanese sushi in Evansville. The Chirachi is our favorite dish, which comes with an assorted variety of sashimi on top of sushi rice and Angel hair reddish. The eel and white tuna are especially delicious. The egg is slightly more sweet than other restaurants version, but it works well and compliments the other flavors. Their Bento Box and sweet shrimp are some of our other favorites -- you cant go wrong!

It is the hidden gem of Evansville. Weve ate here several times and was very satisfied with the quality and service of this place. It absolutely blows Kanpai out of the water. If you order off the regular menu fantastic and if you order sushi even more fantastic. By far the best service too. It really is the best Japanese food in town the other restaurants are just posers. Keep it up Iwataya!

The only place my family and I go to for good sushi and amazing food all around. The atmosphere is amazing the wait staff is always very friendly and helpful and the food is always exceptional. My favorite dish has to be the katsu curry. My fiance lived in Japan for 3 years and agrees that this has to be one of the most authentic restaurants around trust me weve tried most of them in the area.

This is my favorite restaurant in Evansville. The food is fresh and delicious and the atmosphere is clean and cozy. The box lunches are great, because you get a little of everything. The rolls are fantastic. My favorite is the spicy tuna roll. The soups are wonderful. I havent had anything in there that I didnt like. Sometimes I crave Iwataya!

Our last meal here was superb, as was the service. The salmon and ikura don buri was EXCEPTIONAL and with plenty of ikura. What more could you want? The fried oysters are a MUST at this time of the year! Lightly coated, and crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth flavors of the sea, on the inside! We are going back for my birthday!

Went for lunch today....very nice atmosphere and very pretty decor.....our food was very good.....service was excellent....only thing we would change would be the salad dressing (we prefer the version of ginger carrot dressing that is slightly sweet) but their dressing was good....we will definitely return to this restaurant (many times!)

This is the real thing. It is by far one of the best sushi places I have been to (Chicago, NY and LA included), which is shocking for poor Evansville - do you know what a Japanese jewel you have here? If you like sushi, go. If youve never tried it before, let them know. If you dont like sushi theres always Gerst Haus.

Consistent high quality. Your meal will be a feast your eyes as well as your stomach. The presentation is a large part of the experience. Your taste buds will savor the flavorful dishes. I recommend the off menu hot pot, or Nabeyeki!!! Servers are knowlegeable and friendly. I highly recommend the Iwataya.

Good place for Japanese food/sushi. The location is odd with it being in a strip mall out past the airport, but the interior is nice and clean. Service can be a bit slow if theyre busy, but Ive never had to wait too terribly long. Even though its out of the way for most people, Id recommend it.

Very nice atmosphere, some confusion with our order but they made it right with no fuss. We absolutely loved their hot tea, it enhanced the meal. The chefs choice tempura was awesome. We typically like the miso soups but this one just not hot enough (temperature). Well be going again!

I absolutely LOVE this place. I am always super excited to come and dine here, its a real treat. I feel like this is one of the closest restaurants to the true Japanese food and cooking style you can find, so If you want a true Japanese dining experience, then this is the place to go!

Absolutely the closest thing you will find around this area to true Japanese dining. It feels like if you would walk into a larger restaurant in Japan itself! Plus, it is nice to have something that is not purely based on fusion. Could not recommend it more!

Have dined here twice, and both times had excessive waits. Last time, on a Friday evening, waited over 90 min to have my dinner served. The food is good, and is popular with local Japanese, but the service can be extremely slow.

I have been coming to Evansville for business over the past two years and tried Iwataya for the first time last night and it was hands down the best steak Ive had in Evansville. I cant wait to go back.
