Went to Grazie for my girlfriends 30th birthday. We had two dining experiences. The wait was 45 minutes, which is to be expected on a Friday in Bloomington. Luckily, they had a nice empty bar so we went there for drinks and an appetizer. The drinks, although pricey ($16 for an old fashioned), were delicious and the bartenders were friendly. Although my bartender hadnt made my drink before, she consulted with her partner and asked how I would like it made. Because of this, it was perfect. Our appetizer arrived in a timely manner and was quite good. It was, however, missing the aioli. Had we left after the bar, they would have gotten 4 stars. Unfortunately, dinner was only worth 1. The primary reason was due to the wait. We had each ordered one entrée, which comes with a house salad. The salad arrived timely, then we waited, and waited, and waited. After we reached the 45 minute mark between courses, I complained to our waitress who periodically stopped by to refill our water glasses. She blamed it on a couple large parties. Bottom line, if your kitchen cant handle your dining room, something has gone terribly wrong. After we finished our dinner (one dish was very good, one was served cold), the table next to us walked out before receiving their entrées due to the wait. We had strongly considered doing the same. They did give us two free appetizer coupons but I think thats a copout on the owner/managers behalf. The likelihood that well be back after this experience is slim. Perhaps had they compd an entrée or cocktail and given us one coupon, it would have been a different story.

I had pretty high expectations for this place, considering that it’s named the best Italian restaurant in Bloomington. Considering the price, I really expected a delicious, high quality meal. We sat down and ordered our meal. I had the spaghetti and meatballs (though I wanted the tortellini, which wasn’t listed on the menu due to the renovations). We got our salad and it was okay, I suppose. It wasn’t anything to write home about. Just iceberg lettuce with a couple sliced cucumbers covered in Italian dressing you’d find at the store. And the bread… Eh. It tasted good, but it was served cold and again, it tasted store bought and not homemade. Then the meal came. Pasta was cooked well and the meatballs were good, and I probably would’ve left happy if I paid ten bucks for what I got. But instead I paid $18, plus $2.50 for a Diet Coke. Unless they ground the meat by hand and rolled all the pasta in the kitchen, there is absolutely no reason it should’ve cost so much. At the risk of getting stoned to death by my fellow foodies, Olive Garden is a much better value. No, seriously. You can get spaghetti and meatballs that are actually just as good (if not better) and the salad and breadsticks are certainly better, too. And you’ll leave full and happy after paying only $12. I’m perfectly fine with shelling out money for a very nice meal, but in this case Grazie over-charged and under-delivered. I shall not be returning.

Anyone that believes the food from this restaurant is even remotely Italian or of any high quality is definitely not a very sophisticated eater. I dont care how or where you may have traveled to, because I have read the reviews and suspect they were planted by the staff of this terrible restaurant. Good quality food is good quality and this is not the restaurant for good quality. They have absolutely no clue how to make a risotto. The risotto I ordered was over-cooked, sandy in texture and not at all soupy. The Caesar salad probably came out of a bag from Krogers. I could continue to totally decimate the food but dont care to. The poor quality it s better suited to the unsophisticated palate of the cooks and the owner. When I complained to the inexperienced., "student" staff I realized that was a mistake. And I was told the owner was in the kitchen fulfilling orders. I asked to speak with the owner to express my serious discontent. He/she was a no show. In other words, the person responsible for the quality of the food and the service did not care to take responsibility. So be it. If you actually read this, heed my warning, Grazie Italiano translates to Thank You Sucker.

We saw the beautiful neon sign for Grazie lit up and instantly decided this is where we were eating tonight. We were not disappointed. The food was really good and we wish they would open an local Italian restaurant like this near Michigan State. I had the chicken parmesean and my wife had a mushroom tortellini dish. We both liked what we had. We were also given salad and bread with our entree, which was a nice touch. So many places now charge extra for a salad. While we were there, the restaurant was not crowded but if school is in session, I would probably make a reservation. The restaurant is in a restored downtown building and does have a second floor loft seating area but is not an extremely large place. They also have a few outdoor tables if the weather is nice. Parking is a little bit of an issue as there are only a few public spots out in front of the restaurant and this restaurant is located on the courthouse square. There is no valet but there are several parking garages located near the courthouse square. We had dinner for two, with drinks, but no dessert for about $50 without tip.

We ate ate Grazie for the first time this September, and we will never be back again!! It was Freshman Parents Weekend,so needless to say, they were very busy. I would think that being in a college town they would be used to handling crowds, but that was quite the contrary! We had 6:30 reservations, so we were one of the lucky ones that didnt have to wait! Our apetizer of fried calamarie was a joke! It looked as though it came from a frozen food box! They were very small with little taste. Our drink order arrived late. My son ordered the gnocchi with seafood and alfredo sauce. The meal finally arrived and there must have been only six gnocchi in the dish! To top that off, the alfredo sauce was like very watery! We sent it back only to get a poor excuse from a "supervisor". My son ordered a second dish which never came. His dessert arrived before his meal! The only thing Grazie did right was to not charge for my sons meals or dessert. Worst Italian restaurant weve ever eaten at!!!!!!! (My pasta dish arrived cold also!)

Food was good, but the service was terrible and completely ruined our evening. The waitress was rude and treated us as though our presence was an annoyance and she clearly tried to get us out as fast as possible. We arrived for our reservation at 6:15 and were rushed out of the restaurant by 7:10. We barely finished the appetizer before the salad arrived and didnt even make a dent in the salad before the entree arrived. The waitress came by about 8 mins after our entree was delivered to ask if we wanted a dessert menu, but we hadnt even had half our food yet! Then she came by 5 mins later to ask if we wanted a box, again we had barely enough time to eat half. Then came by for a third time another 5 to 10 mins later to ask if we wanted a dessert menu for the second time. We got the hint and just asked for the check. My date had to chug the last half of his Manhattan because he didnt have time to finish it. This was my first time at Grazie and probably my last.
