overall decent food, but terrible service. Do not come here if you want to invite a larger group. First up they dont take reservations, why wouldnt a restaurant take reservations? The service for dinner was below average. We had to ask several times for missing items and half of our table never got drinks refilled. I was never asked how I was doing or how the food was. It also took almost an hour to get our food. Then the check comes and it all goes further down hill from there. We were a party of 10 and they were literally not wiling to have have separate bills or pay with multiple cards. On the menu it says they can request a full bill on a table of 5 or more. A request is NOT a forced statement. Why is it so hard to have split bills? Do you not want our money? Every other restaurant I have gone to can do this. Then we argue them to split it 3 ways and then we finally think we can pay and leave, but or course not. They then claim that they cant run our cards right now and that they were going to photocopy them and run the info later. That is so unprofessional and unsafe. Every one refused to have this done but one person. They paid the 3rd and the rest of us combed through our wallets to round up enough money. I will never come here again.

They make really orginal and tasty drinks. Banana Magaritia for example, made with real bananas not some fake yellow flavored liquor. Having said that.....this place suffers from what other trendy cool places in Mchenry county suffer from..execution! High end Magaritia cocktaqil tequila lounge. Love it! But like so many people have said there service is bad. Under staffed waiters....had to go to bar to order another drink while waiting for food. Could not get waiters to look at us for over 10 minutes and its a small place. The food was good but not great. They give you 4 little salsa to try but none are good. The novelwears off pretty quick. The worse were the chips....they were chewy and stale. We even ordered guac...$7 and it comes in a little plastic soft serve ice cream dish, with MORE stale chips. If they can up the service and get some decent chips, just go here for the drinks. The drinks are expensive but good and thats what this place is about. So 4 drinks, guac, fajitas and a burrito. With a tip the meal was $108. So factor that in when your making your plans. Hopefully they make improvements....I want this place to stay around. Thats why I am giving it 4 starts versus 3.

I am shocked at the great reviews this place has gotten. My husband and I were so excited to try this place because of the reviews. We decided to pick up an order on our way home Saturday night , it was about a 20 min wait to pick it up but no problem. We got home and started to eat, my husband had a steak torta , which he has most of the time from a mexican restaurant and he said it was fair but nothing special. I ordered a shredded beef chimichanga dinner and was so unhappy with it, that I did not even eat half of it. It tasted like spicy shredded bbq beef shoved into a flour shell. Chimichangas are suppose to be fried and not a soft shell. It was awful , we also ordered chips and salsa, the chips tasted like they ran over and picked up dollar store tortilla chips, a good mexican restaurant makes their own, and the salsa was horrible I have never tasted anything like it, it was a brownish color with an awful smell. The meal cost us $28 to pick up and we threw most of it in the trash. We will not be going back, I would advise not to waste you money..

I would never come here again, especially with a group. We were seated after 30 to 40 minutes, which would be fine (large group, weekend evening) but we called ahead. Then they spent 20 minutes after we started ordering to tell us that we cant split the checks- and it took them 10 minutes to tell us that they could split it on cards. The service was terrible, can I have sweeter - "uhhhhhhhhhh, let me check". We ordered sides, had to ask repetitively. Waiters stood around, but we didnt get refills - and they automatically charge 20% gratuity. For what? Crappiest servers award? We figured out the bill, gave them cash and cards for the correct amounts and an explanation. It took them almost 40 minutes to come back and say they couldnt run either card. The manager could when they came in, "later." Why wasnt one there? On a weekend evening? We were ticked off, understandably , so the waitress said, "Our internet is down. We need to take a copy." Seriously? The food was decent, but not worth it. #worstfoodserviceivehad #seriously

We usually love Mixteca and have been there several times. However, this last time was extremely disappointing when I took my daughter and her friend there for an early dinner. The girls each ordered a chicken quesadilla and asked if they could have rice and beans on the side. The food, as usual, was great, but the bill was RIDICULOUS!! We were charged for the quesadilla (3.99 with chicken) and each side of rice and beans was $3.50!!!! So we paid a total of $14 for two small bowls of rice and two small bowls of beans. Very disappointing. I could have gotten two steak burritos for the same price. Take the hint Mixteca -- Drop Your Prices on your side dishes. I have no problem with your prices on regular menu items, even though they are higher than most other mexican restaurants around... but a few scoops of rice and beans should not be $14!!!!!

Nothing special. It was ok, the chips were not really good and the salsa set up was odd. 4 different flavors but only very little of each... And 2 were so hot that I wasnt interested the other 2 were just ok. The house Margarita was the best part of the meal. It was really pretty good. Both my husband and I got burritos. I did beans and rice no meat and my husband did steak. It might have been ok but honestly they both had strong fishy taste. They must have cooked fish on the grill right before our food. It was hard to enjoy at all knowing we were tasting someone elses food. The place looked clean and it was packed!! Loads of people coming and going, I just didnt get it. Maybe something else would have been better, but we will not be heading back. Kind of a let down, this place has such potential.

I have been here numerous times, dont know why, keep hoping it will be better. The food is good, the margaritas are great - BUT the service STINKS! Every time! Last night really did it. We sat at the bar thinking there is no way we can get ignored there and it still took 15 minutes to get a margarita. After being given chips, salsa and menus I had to finally ask the bartender "who is assigned to wait on us" and he said "I am". Like I said the margaritas are great, food good but they really need to step it up. When we left I told my boyfriend that the next time I suggest going there he should remind me about this time. Were going to learn how to make our own margaritas and go to the new place for food.
