Readers be forewarned when Im talking about Panera Bread. My step dad worked as the head chef for years at the primary one in downtown Chicago so Im a little put off at the sight of the place let alone the all too familiar smells and tastes (you would be too if this was 75% of your diet for at least 4 years.) Never the less no other place was open so I decided to try it out after removing Panera Bread and its numerous imitators from my diet years ago. What to expect with Panera Bread: 1. Stupidly High Prices for Simple Things 2. Good, albeit could definitely be better food 3. Great service when theyre not busy 4. A overly strong, familiar smell akin to Subway It was 8:30AM so like I said no other place was open except for this. I walked in, was greeted by the cashier and ordered some OJ and a sausage, egg & and cheese sandwich. I grabbed my OJ directly from the ice laden container so it was nice and cool and proceeded to walk down to the pick-up counter. The whole time I was thinking I shouldve ordered something else since they might put cheddar cheese on the sandwich (I can only tolerate some white cheeses.) I waited for awhile before I noticed the plate with what seemed like a half made sandwich with only egg and cheese before I realized they never called my name to let me know it was ready. When the server noticed me over there she grabbed the receipt hanging over the counter and called my name even though I was literally right there (and the only person as well.) To my delight the sandwich was actually finished (the sliver of sausage was hidden) and tasted great with the mozzarella cheese they put on it. I sat there for awhile and drank my delicious orange juice before I left. On the way out one of the cashiers yelled "See you later darling!" out of the blue so I had to awkwardly stop, turn around and wave, but it was nice. Altogether it was $7 for the sandwich and a small OJ which is more than Id like to pay, but its expected with Panera.

Dont know what it is about this location but the service is lackluster at best. The employees are not engaged in what they are doing and dont seem to care about anything. On top of that my order is wrong every time. If it was once or twice it would be one thing but every time something is missing or just wrong outright. Walked in this weekend with the family. The dining area was pretty empty but there was someone waiting to order in front of us...but nobody there to take his order. He was patient and waited a good 5-10 minutes for someone to slink out of the back but we decided to go with the self-serve kiosk. The presence of these kiosks (and there is a pair practically in front of the registers blocking the way) should not mean there isnt someone waiting to help. IMO this is a management issue. They are not motivating their staff nor does there seem to be any kind of oversight or accountability. The food is fine but these days the experience is what sets places apart. If Im going to pay $8 for the same sandwich or salad or soup I can get at another place, Im going where I dont have to wait for someone to show up and then bring me the wrong food.

Ive been to this Vernon Hills location before and I have to say this is the worst visit by far. First off the cashier had an attitude when I was telling him my order, then while getting my food they made it on the wrong bread and when I asked about that the lady who brought it out to me said "oh were out of sourdough". I would think that this would of been brought to my attention before the food even reached my table just in case I had food allergies to different types of bread, but hey what do I know. I then went up to the manager and explained this issue and he just looks at me and says well were out of sourdough so what do you want me to do! Well maybe letting me know would of been nice I told him. Also ordered a bear claw and never got that. Had to go up and remind the cashier. Lets just say I will not be returning to this location.

We used the kiosk to order and had no issues with that or even the quality of the food. But the staff are ABOMINABLE. They are extremely rude and dont care if you get everything you paid for or not. Ive never been to a place with staff and even management that are as aggressive and rude as this location. They slammed and threw someone elses plate down at us because we asked for the rest of our order. It was not busy at all and they acted like it was an imposition to prepare food and bag up baked goods for us. Unless you want the worst service in the county, do NOT go to this location.

We visited Panera bread yesterday and ordered 2 Med Veggie Sandwitches and 2 Lemonedes. We asked to add Soup and also asked the assistant to give us the Panera Bread membership card to add points. We were told that to order it online and when I try there it asks me to enter card no and registration code. I think the store needs personnel who can show little more interest to listen to the questions of the customers!!

I love Panera in general, but was pleasantly surprised this morning when the employee bringing my bagel to the table actually used the information on the receipt to address me by name. Its a known fact that people like to hear their own names, and its certainly an easy way to connect with customers. Thanks for a pleasant experience. Little things go a long way.

Order is always right, but long wait in drive thru 80% of the time and employees act as its an inconvenience to take the panera card. No matter if I tell them at the drive thru or the window. They always act as if its too late, they forgot or didnt hear me. Pisses me off, especially since theyve raised their prices compared to last year

Very good food. Wholesome and healthy. The oven baked cookies are to DIE for. The staff are kind, but the people who bring out the food are sort of slow. They get confused easily and the forgot to give us 2 soups, instead of 1. The food is amazing, just the staff need to step it up.

The food quality and freshness at the restaurant is A LOT worst than all of the other Panera restaurants that I have been to in the area. The restaurant was a lot very dirty, there was a lot of garbage on the floor and dirty plates on tables.

Great place to sit down and drink your coffee and read a newspaper. Love that they have free WiFi. Gets busy during lunch and the layout for the line to order your food isnt the greatest. Doesnt take much before the line is out the door.

This Panera is high tech! They have new sensors for the tables and they can find you without the buzzing and the overall look of the place is really nice. I sat outside and enjoyed quality food as always! Nicely done Panera!
