Told us the wait was 20 minutes, after a half hour I asked how much longer because we were going to go to a different restaurant. Told us rudely as soon as they can, u mm thats not really an acceptable answer FROM A RESTAURANT HOSTESS where this is your only responsibility (and I know this is your only responsibly because Ive been sitting here watching you for 35 minutes making yourself look busy moving stuff around and then putting it back)! After an hour were finally sat in an area where 6 other tables are open!! Why? We were told the manager refused to let them use these tables?!? We ask for the manager...he comes over, doesnt say hes the manager, we have to ask and then hes a total *insert swear*! We make a complaint and ask him why this happened and he said "Ill look into that for you and let you know" (which made no sense at all) as he just walked away. He NEVER CAME BACK. At this point were embarrassed as my husband had recommended this place to our friends. Finally we ordered since it was soo late. Food was good but as others have stated is pricey for burgers and are served on a puck made to look much bigger than they are. Annoying. This was a terrible experience and weve eaten there a few times. We wont be going back any time soon if at all and now we all have nothing nice to say about The Lucky Monk.

Reason for 2* review: Prides itself on being a brewpub but I couldnt get service to order another round; entree was dry. Positives: Beer was excellent, great variety and extensive selection. Went recently to the Lucky Monk in South Barrington. The waitress made a point of telling us that they are a brewpub that is focused around beer. "Excellent!", I thought, I love a good beer. Unfortunately that seems to be lip service, because while the beer we drank was excellent, it was like pulling teeth trying to get anyone to come back around to take another order. We were there for over two hours and I had two beers, one of which I had to call the waitress over to order. I had the pork chops, which were flavorful but dry. The appetizers were a good size and tasty. I believe that everyone else in our party was happy except for one who burned her tongue on a hot soup but that was her own fault for not checking it first. *I should caveat this review by saying that it was a busy Saturday night, however I dont personally accept Saturdays are busy as an excuse for poor service. If you dont know that Saturdays are a busy night for restaurants, youre in the wrong trade. If you do know that theyre busy, hire more staff. You can pay them with the money you make from being able to provide people with more drinks*

I cant say enough amazing things about this awesome restaurant!!! I have Celiac Disease and have to be 100% Gluten Free at ALL times. There is no room for mistake or I am very ill for a week, sometimes more. What I need in order to enjoy a meal is not only a lot of work but almost a team of people that not only know and understand my disease but someone who is very patient and kind. I often feel awkward going out to eat and educating people on the demands I need in order to enjoy my meal. This means having my food cooked in a certain area of the kitchen, ALL utensils need to be separate and cleaned separate from others and many other precautions need to be made. Kevin, whom is the head of this location went above and beyond the call of duty along with Angelique (my server) and their amazing cook. All three delivered me my meal for my 40th birthday, without me requesting them to do this... They were just that great of a team and worked so well together... I hope based on this review that you extend business to The Lucky Monk and enjoy many meals or beers (Gluten free or Non Gluten Free) with your friends, family, co workers, etc. Cheers to The Lucky Monk!!!! Keep up the amazing customer service, Kevin.

Ive been here just a few times this year and its been exceptional! They have some of the best and most creative burgers youll find. The burgers come on a little stand, so they look larger than they really are, but excellent food choices, and a microbrewery with plenty of options. I had the King burger (Elvis variety) with peanut butter, bananas and bacon. Although it sounds somewhat odd, it was very good. Everything cooked to perfection! Ive had the 50/50 burger, which may be my favorite, and the grilled cheese burger (a hamburger between two grilled cheese sandwiches). That was ok, I know people that love it. Pulled pork nachos are wonderful, and you probably cant go wrong with anything on the menu. A good place to meet before seeing a show at AMC 30 which is right next door.

Weve been here a couple of time now. The pretzel appetizer is great. Weve had burgers each time which were some of the best in the area. The home-cut fries are a great complement. The beer on the other hand has been good, but then on the next visit was just OK. What was a crisp Pilsner the first, was a cloudy looking wheat beer the next visit (I even asked the bartender if she poured the right beer). I noticed this as well with the amber. On the other hand, the specialty beers have been consistently good. The oak aged stout was great as well as the Dubbel. I would expect consistency in the house beers and liberty in the seasonals, which appears to have been taken. Expect a long wait on a weekend without a reservation. All in all great place- well be back.

If you are a beer-snob like I am (just ask my buddah-belly), you will appreciate the Lucky Monk. Just close enough to the highway to make it dangerously accessible (see other review about being cut off: a great policy for a bar that serves 9%+ABV beer) I really liked the place, and by the amount of well-heeled clientelle, there are many others that do too. As I said, Im a beer-snob, so the selection was great: youd have to travel many a mile to find another place that serves Three Floyds, Two Brothers and Half Acre on tap. Bravo! (Closest I can think of in terms of beerlisciousness are Bavarian Ale House, Map Room and Hop Leaf) Cant wait to go back with the lads for a few pints (as a designated drinker), and the wife and kids to try out the food. Cheers!

My food was good. My girlfriend ordered a plain lucky munk with cheese and egg. When she got the order it had all the veggies on it. We told the server and he stated it should of been plain and they would re make it. Got it back in under 5 minutes only to realize they just scraped all the veggies off of it. I then asked the server if it was remade or they just scraped the veggies off of it and he said they would never do that and I showed him where they still left parts of the lettuce and tomato. They took it off the check but basically lied about remaking it.
