I stopped by to get soup to take home for dinner. The waitress said the "cup" of soups are big. Without suggesting or showing me the container she dished up 3 and brought them out. I asked her, "thats how big they are?" She asked me if I wanted a few more? I was in a hurry anyway and said no. She said they would be plenty and they are bigger than they look. I asked for bread instead of crackers and asked if it was homemade. She said no, but its good bread. She got a plastic bag and put the soup into the bag. A plastic bag to put 3 scalding hot soups into without something to support them, really? I had to stand there at the high table by the bar with my feet sticking to the filthy floor, next to the bar rag that was left on that table and rearrange everything, put the soup on top of the breads foam container and all the while shes standing there telling me its going to be fine in the car and I should put them onto the floor. I got home and un-packaged the soup to find no butter for the bread, no salt or pepper, or silverware, not even a napkin. The pitifully small serving of soup was horrid, the flavor was awful, the noodles were disintegrating and really gross, like they were reheated from yesterday, the bread was super dry with no flavor, the girl was not helpful, just bossy and positive the soup would be enough to feed all of us, $15 dollars for about 1 1/2 soup which only fed 1 person, me and my hubby didnt eat ours, our teenager did. And my son, who will eat anything, said I dont know Ma... We have eaten there maybe 5-6 time in the past year, and each time it gets worse. The place has gone to hell- Never again, no Sir. Over priced, shrinking portions, terrible service, filthy conditions and gross food, felt like I went to McDonalds.

Stopped by on a whim. Thought it was going to be an actual Cafe. Turned out to be more high end priced food - Italian mostly but everything else reflected German. The waitstaff was standing around by the bar eating the bar nuts with the bartender. The kitchen is visible. One of the cooks was making smiley faces with an onion ring to the waitress, then put sauce on it and ate it right in front of all the diners. Didnt wash his hands afterwards. Flies everywhere - probably because the cooks were having a smoke out back when we got there with the back door wide open. My Daughters cheese fries had a hair in it. I sent it back and asked for another. No apologies or visit from the Manager (if there is one) and when the waiter brought it back he said "Here you go, nice clean fries". REALLY? Waiter offered my kids root beer and then brought bottles of root beer at $3.50 a piece. Somebody didnt bother to drain the pasta for my chicken parm so it was watery on the bottom. Left paying waay too much money for crappy food and service. Also was grossed out and didnt eat for the rest of the day. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.

Worst food and service I have ever experienced. The first two bites of the chicken salad had cartilage in it, so I sent it back. (first time ever I have sent food back in a restaurant). The waitress said well we really cant do this, however, if you want me to bring you extra fish from your husbands all you can eat fish fry, I will do that, as if she was doing me a favor?! She then hid the chicken salad from the manager/owner and threw it out. When we got the bill, the chicken salad sandwich was on there still. I told her I was not paying for it, she spoke to the manager/owner, Im sure she told him I just didnt like it and refused to pay. He never once came over to ask what was wrong or anything. She obviously feared telling him. This restaurant was awesome when Chef Peter owned it, the food was amazing, what a shame.

My family and I used to come here all the time. The last three times I have been there the food was awful. The "yummy burger" tasted like a McDonalds burger. The taco pizza was so overpowered by olives that it was the only ingredient you could taste. The jumbo shrimp for 15$ only came with 5 or 6 pieces of shrimp that were over cooked and the garlic sauce was bland and just blah. My fries that came with it had no seasoning, even after I added my own salt they still had no taste. The server did not give us the complimentary bread that they are supposed to. And my lemonade was really sour. This used to be my favorite restaurant in town but now it is way over priced for terrible looking and tasting food.

Didnt expect much going in, but was pleasantly surprised. My boys and I had the mozzarella logs and a margarita pizza and they were better than I expected. The pizza was made in their stone pizza oven and they used real mozzarella. The cheese logs werent really logs, they were patties but they were among the better ones Ive ever had; nice crunch on the outside and a great sauce to go with. The inside is a little small but nicely decorated and the outside is unimpressive and easy to miss. If youre in the area looking for a nice surprise, this is it.

Good food, friendly service. I recommend a burger and waffle fries. Seating area is pretty cramped, and we were the only family with little kids there at the time. I felt like we were right on top of the table next to us. Kids menu is typical kids menu. Grilled cheese, chicken strips. I couldnt find the kids menu online, so I attached a picture. They do have a PB&J that was really good. WAY too messy for my 2 Y.O. but it was good.

Best Fish Fry, Best Prime Rib, Best Sunday Brunch, Best October Fest, Best Scratch Made Cooking - in the area. Best Prices. MY one rub? Make the place a tiny bit bigger. Its one of the most amazing restaurants in the entire Northern Illinois area - they really care about the food and it shows! Im actually hesitant to write a review - because we want to keep this place to ourselves! Highly recommended!

Food is always great. The problem I have with this place is that I have repeatedly gone there to eat during their normal hours, and one of the staff members will tell me theyre closed when I go. Or theyll post a sign on the door that theyre not open that day for whatever reason. Its happened three times in a year and a half. Theres no consistency. Some waitresses are rude.

Breakfast menu was a little limited but what was listed was wonderful. I enjoyed the Bavarian breakfast for $9.99 and added an egg for $1.50. It came with a weiss beer, 2 wursts, and a gigantic soft pretzel. where else can you get breakfast that comes with beer? Hubby got biscuits and gravy, all from scratch.

Best wings in Marengo! Soups are all home made and delicious! Broasted chicken is out of this world! All the food that I have tried has been delicious. Staff is the best. Great price. Love the wood fired oven. By far the best restaurant in Marengo!!
