This restaurant was recommended by a friend. Ive never waited so long for service! Prior to ordering we waited forever to see our waitress. Then again to get drink refills. My friend insisted it must have been one bad experience so I went back. Again...waiting forever. Our waitress, while my drink sat empty, sat at a table chatting with friends. Finally the bus boy went and got me a refill. She never even came back to check how our dinner was going. She delivered the food initially and didnt come back til it was time to give us the bill. However, I cant say enough for the food. It tastes great and is freshly prepared. So...if you dont mind sketchy service....this restaurant would be great. The view is gorgeous. The Patio is nice, the margharitas and atmosphere are fantastic. Just dont expect much from the wait staff. Our second time there I was so frustrated I asked to speak with the owner. I was told the owner wasnt on the premises. This may be the reason that our waitress was so inattentive. Regardless...frustrating.

My Hubby and I went to El Puerto on a rare occasion that we didnt have our 3 children for a night and before our 4th arrives. Anyway, my family is mexican and I LOVE the food I grew up on. I am therefor very picky on "authentic mexican" resturants and since I am new to the area we had no idea where to go. We chose El Puerto because of reviews and their website, I love to see the food from the resturaunt to get a feel for what I am in for. When we got there, we got to sit on the patio on the lake. Beautiful sunny day, great breeze off the lake, we loved it. Sadly we did not get the chance to drink as I am very pregnant and my hubby was driving. But great service, I ordered the tamales, which are my favorite comfort food that I grew up on. They were so yummy, I was grinning like a kid. We each ordered Fajitas and again great. I couldnt stop snacking on the chips and salsa. Everything was great. We got to relax, eat slowly, enjoy the day and food and eachother without being bothered. Cant wait to go back again! And have a drink!

If I could give them a zero stars, I would. To start, the waiters they didnt really care about our table. She was to worried about the table behind us, they were drinking and she kept serving them. A fight between a lady and a guy went down. The food was bland and over priced. How does a Mexican restaurant screw up nachos? I dont know but they did, 12 chips with a little lettuce, little cheese and a ton of refried beans on each chip. Waste of money, they werent cheap. The food was bland, I ordered mushroom and onion quesidillas. Granted it wasnt meat but they werent good. My step dad ordered the jimmychangas( I dont know if thats how you spell it) and they were clearly frozen. At the end, didnt like it and would not recommend.

Pretty good food, everything I had was served hot and straight out of the kitchen. A lot of places serve soupy refried beans but that was not the case here. I really enjoyed their chicken flautas, the corn tortilla they used was really good. The staff was attentive at first but after we received our appetizer the staff played on their phones while I had an empty drink and was ready to order our meal. Im sure this place is really nice during the summer when you can sit outside and look at the lake.

A party of 12 people we all hatedit.. anyone that had a chance to try good Mexican food will agree that this is a joke. over priced for the amount and quality I got the combo burrito it looked more like a rolled up taco fried things tasted like very old oil. the tacos had 90% lettuce 10% meat disgusting white tortillas... I dare you! (El Puerto restaurant) to go try tacos LA Rosa on villa st in Elgin IL and not be ashamed of your selfs. And maybe you learn how to make good Mexican tacos

My sweetie and I went last year. We had the best time. the food is great. No drinking for us. They did look inviting though. The view off the water is GREAT!! I cant wait to go back this summer. The salsa and chips came out warm, nice touch. The staff was great!!, the resturant decor nice. I could go on and on. It is a must go to place for great Mexican food and atmosphere. Great Job El Puerto!!!!

doesnt deserve 1 star. food was horrible and overpriced. the ground beef looks like sloppy joes and had no flavor the beans were burnt and the rice dry. The only way this food would ever taste good is if I had not taste buds or if i tried mexican food for the first time, or if I was drunk. Only thing good was the view (what a waste)

Food was good. Patio was huge, large portion of it was covered and amazing view. Tvs on the patio. Staff were nice and attentive. Margaritas were good. My only complaint was the queso fundido...it was microwaved in a bowl and not baked. We will be back for sure though. Lots of boat slips and a half dozen jet ski pads. Cool place.

Really nice spot on the water on Fox Lake - big patio with about 45 tables. Inside dining available in the air conditioning if desired. Great margaritas. More than ample portions, and pretty good Tex-Mex food. The chicken and beef fajitas had an unusual seasoning, but it was still good.

Dont expect them to re-invent americanized mexican food. But, the food is very tasty and not just a plate of shredded cheese like most places - try the fajitas! The Margaritas are the PERFECT blend that clearly uses fresh ingredients. Definately one of the best eats on the chain!
