Went for lunch in March 2014. Had the Pork & Dry bean curd with chives lunch special. This dish was the best tasting chinese food I have had in the last ten years and I was excited to find a new, great chinese restaurant with authentic chinese food, not the americanized versions. Well, went tonight, April 12th and ordered same main dish with scallion pancakes as an appetizer. What a total disappointment. Pancakes were oily, soggy and totally tasteless. This same entree pork dish was equally tasteless. Pancakes were so bad ending up throwing out. Very disappointed as whoever was cooking tonight was way off their game. Will try again for lunch but wont be going again at night as prices are higher, you dont get a larger portion for dinner and quite frankly, the food wasnt very good. Had I not had such a great tasting lunch the first visit I would not be willing to overlook this poor tasting food on this visit. But, I believe in at least going three times and will try something different from the lunch menu next time. Will provide an update after my next visit.

When I was much younger and this place was called Lo Garden, my dad and my sister and I would infrequently come here (same as Odies, which is now Cedar Grill). Back then we liked the place mostly because they had excellent decor (I remember there was a little fountain) and would play wonderful videos of chinese gardens, parks, waterfalls, etc in a home theater set up. But sometime around 2008 a lot changed (including the name) and unfortunately that same year our dad passed. As I had started becoming more independent though, I would consider this place - as it was once a ritual - that I should like to go back sometimes, even by myself. Oh another thing - I was a vegetarian the first time I came here on my own. Well as it turns out, Lao Sze Chuan makes the best Kung Pao Tofu Ive ever had by far! Other places dont even come close. I still dont like that everywhere I go I pay as much for tofu as chicken or beef, but I suppose at least here the food is just plain delicious enough to compensate.

Indian vegetarian opinion: Few but excellent vegetarian ala-carte options. Go for the following: - Kung Pao Tofu: perhaps the best item on their menu. Medium spice excellent kung-pao sauce gravy rich with tofu and peanuts. Served with white Jasmine rice. - Schezuan String Beans: Specify vegetarian. Also ask for very spicy, else by default comes bland. Dry side item. Enjoy munching with fork. - Vegetarian Fried Rice: I dont remember if they serve it without egg. I am OK with egg in fried rice. This is well made. Still, mandatory to have as you already have white rice. Quantity is a lot, you can easily take to-go. Price is the most reasonable for the taste. Service is excellent, and food is served fast. The main managing the counter looks rude, but is actually quite funny. Ask her about her visit to India and she opens up. The only improvement area is that the above items do not figure in the lunch-menu. So for me this is a dinner place. The best Chinese I have had in the area.

I went to this restaurant with my friends and my wife while we were staying at a hotel nearby. We were expecting good quality food like the other Lao Sze Chuan in chinatown. We were in for a big surprised. The vegetables dish was salty. The fried squid was not fresh. When I told them about those dishes, they told us they can recook them again. I didnt take up their offer since I didnt think it will make any differences. The rest of the dishes were very bland. If you like spicy chinese food, I would recommend Lao Sze Chuan in chinatown and avoid this restaurant.

Food good. I have only done carry out. Food called in to the restaurant 20 minutes ahead of time and my order was always ready. If you dine in lunch specials you get soup. With carry out you dont and still pay the same price. Dont forget to ask for fortune cookie with carry out they tend to forget to include. There is one woman there that takes the phone in order that can be very abrupt and not all that friendly. I am not sure if she is management. But that is a negative thing. Also, the outside grounds, glass front door and building needs to be cleaned up

this was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The server didnt give us any service or refill our drinks during our whole meal. To top it off our server went and sat down to eat dinner. At the end one of the servers came to our car and told us the we did not tip enough. I didnt know that a 15 percent tip was not sufficient. I have never had an experience where a waiter has asked for a bigger tip, when they didnt even give us any service. Do not go to this restaurant all you will get is very bad service and still expect you to give a 20% tip.

Dumpy, divey place, torn fabric on booths, it was freezing cold in there and owner said heat was not working, then when we complained and decided to leave because my boys were freezing it miraculously got fixed ! (They had turned it off to save money) . Food was nothing special, the chicken on bone I got was over cooked, dry, more.bones than actual chicken. Very disappointed. Never going back to this dump. Embarrassed I took my wife there, she had bad vibes right in parking lot when she saw how run down it was and didnt want to eat here.

When you go on the website for this restaurant they advertise lunch special with prices averaging $7.50 with no time or day. When you call they say its not honored on weekends that is false advertising!!! I entered up paying $15 dollars for 1 plate. Then the delivery guy had the nerve to say you forgot the tip. Next time pick up! I told him its included in the $4 dollar delivery charge!!! Bottom line false advertising, overpriced, and terriable customer service!

In that moment when you crave Chinese food and nothing else will suffice, I took the risk and ordered from a place I had not eaten from. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and I must say it had a kick like that of Bruce Lee and it was so good. So, thank for curing my crave for both Chinese food and something really spicy.

4 times out of 5 this place is serving the best tasting and quality Chinese food anywhere in the suburbs. Sometimes the food tastes different than the previous visit, like the soup for example, but that may be due to the chef who made it that day? Regardless, weve never left this place disappointed. Recommended.

It was decent food but compared to the ones in Chicago, its very subpar. The food didnt taste right comparitively and the spicy cabage was NOT good and the taste would not leave your mouth. It made my water taste aweful. Try eating spicy food and not being abe to drink your water because the goo made it taste bad.
